DONOT, I repeat, DONOT get your eyebrows done here. I love my eyebrows because they’re super dark and angular and so when trying a new place I made sure to say, «just the excess, because I like the fuller look I have». Next thing I know, I have no end of my right eyebrow, the top of my left brow is uneven, and the brows aren’t close to symmetrical. Im currently, still waiting to talk to the manager after 3 hours. I’ve called twice and the second time they said she would be available – only for me to hear 20 – 30 more minutes for this haircut she’s working on

I went in to Avissa salon for a Brazillian Blow out. The treatment cost me $ 199 with a new customer discount. The stylist, Kristin was very friendly and kept me engaged but the treatment she did seems to be a waste of money. I have frizzy wavy hair and was hoping to get my waves smoothed out and the frizz minimized. Unfortunately the treatment did nothing. When I walked out of the salon my hair were straight(probably because of the blow drying) and remained so till I washed them a couple of days later. But after the wash I am back to square one. I see no difference in the texture of my hair.

The cost is a little bit high but it’s worth it when you have a hair emergency. The lady failed to tell me that she was going to charge me $ 20+ or so for a shampoo before my cut. That was annoying otherwise I paid $ 40 to have my hair cut. That’s the only reason it’s a 3 star.

I’ve been coming to Ashley for the past few months and she absolutely fantastic. I’ve been trying to perfect a shorter style and she always listens to my ideas and concerns. Her expertise is obvious, and our conversations range from hilarious to educational to mutual venting. It’s been a relief to have found such a professional and friendly stylist in AA.

I booked an appointment with Avissa for a Brazilian recently. I have a regular salon I go to, but they were booked out so I decided to give Avissa a try. I arrived for my 11am and was shown back to the room by the esthetician, who gave me a towel to cover with and said she would be right back. As I sat and waited, I looked around the room and noticed it was pretty unkempt. The baby powder bottle had stains dripping down it, the floor was sticky and covered in hair(this I noticed because I stepped in it), and even the towel I was given had hair stuck to it and stains on it. I also noticed none of the wax machines were on, and wondered how long it would take for them to warm once she came back. It seemed to be taking an odd amount of time, and I even realized the stereo that was playing spa music was now on song 7, and she started it on 1 when I arrived. I thought I’d give her the benefit of the doubt; maybe she got stuck with another patron or something. I got up to check my phone, it was 11:25 am — I had been sitting there waiting for 25 minutes! I had a scheduled appointment, and I decided I didn’t want to wait any longer. I got dressed and left the room to see the esthetician sitting on the waiting couch casually reading a magazine. I let the girl at the front desk know I changed my mind, waited too long, and was leaving. Both she and the esthetician said«what?!» and I could see they forgot I was even there. The salon was not even busy. I just said thanks anyway and left. A few minutes after I left the esthetician(whose name I never got) called and begged me to come back for a free service, she apologized and said she has a lot on her mind and, I quote, «my body is here but my mind is not, please come back!» After the dirty room and being forgotten, there was no way I was going back to have a Brazilian done by someone who just told me her mind was elsewhere. I should mention that after booking the appointment, I was using Google to find the address and came across a groupon for the service. Now I’ll have to contact groupon to get a refund for the service I didn’t get. I am so glad this was not my first Brazilian or I’d be turned off from the idea. I will never go anywhere other than my regular salon again, no matter how long I need to wait for an appointment!

Their scheduling process is a mess. Time and again I have had issues setting up an appointment. They deliberately overbook, due to which stylists end up attending multiple clients at once and not fully attentive. The stylists are great, but the management needs to step up the game.

I used the groupon for the deep condition and cut(all groupons go to the same stylist but I can’t remember her name). She was fine. Nothing spectacular but it was a clean cut.

I don’t usually write reviews but because I had the worst hair experience ever, I decided to write one. I booked a hair appointment for hair color and keratin. My appt was with Karen. I wanted to have a lighter hair color, a little lighter than my dark brown color. I chose the color, very basic and straightfoward, no highlights or something crazy. She applied the color on the roots first since they were a little darker than the rest of my hair. She let it sit on my roots for 25 min, but never checked during that period of time to see if the color was the right shade. She then applied to the rest of the hair and let it sat for 15 mins. Now the end result was BLOND roots and deep brown hair! She was FINE with that and wanted to go ahead with cutting my hair! I asked hair if she can’t see the two different colors I have? I insisted that she fix it… the bottom of the line, she had to dye my hair THREETIMES just to get one basic color right !! Really no science here. 4 hours were spent just to dye my hair light brown. Of course she started to become not nice and unpleasant. Now the Keratin disaster… She spent less than an hour on the keratin, I had had done it previously and it takes longer than this. The end result was diappointing, I still got the frizziness and it was not straight as she had promised it will be. When I showed unsatisfication, instead of trying to address why I’m not happy with the results, she was very rude and she stated that keratin won’t completely take away the frizziness which is completely opposite to what she had told me before. Beside I had keratin in the past and I was happy with the results, probably because a professional expert hairdressor did it not someone who has no idea what she is doing. Now the big disaster is when I washed my hair after 48 hours, the color on the roots faded and now I have two different colors, and my hair is excatly the same texture as before. My hair is not curly, It is just wavy and has some frizziness. So basically I exposed my hair to dye three times and keratin to get subpar results and a rude treatment, and now I have to deal with the outcomes of this in the near futur. I gave two stars beacuse the owner Makan was very polite and understanding and he did not let me pay and did not really care about the money.

Not happy… Came for a haircut yesterday and I hate it! Thankfully hair grows back. Ego’s get massaged. Spouses stop looking at you in that«were you planning on having your cut that way» look… The«stylist» asked me if she should use condtioner. I should have known right then and there this place was a mistake for me. Long story, short. She cut my hair way too short and seemed like she was in a hurry although there were no other customers in the salon(gee, I wonder why). I tried to have some small talk, but she wasn’t really interested in that, either. I am not the type of person who likes to chit chat with the person who cuts my hair. I don’t go to the salon to hear neighhborhood gossip, but if someone who is cutting my hair appears to be elsewhere I like to bring their attention back to me. I ended up spending $ 40 for a haircut when I could have gone to Supercuts, spent $ 15 and gotten the same result. I won’t be back.

This was my first time to avissa and I was so happy with my experience! I had a groupon for partial highlights and a haircut for an excellent value of about $ 60. Kimia was my stylist and she was very thorough with me about what she was going to do with my hair. I was very anxious about the color because I have only colored my hair once and she took that into consideration. After the first set of highlights she blew dry my hair and I realized I wanted more highlights. She was very happy to add more highlights and made sure I left the salon happy! I was very impressed with the service and I am so happy with my hair! Thank you!

The hair styling skills at Avissa Salon were terrrrrrrrible and outdated. The hair cutting skills were even worse. My hair is uneven and crooked to the point where I have a very noticeable chunk missing from the back of my hair. The back is very layered while the front/sides of my hair have almost no layers at all which leaves the hair sitting very heavy and flat around my face. Today as I was styling my hair I realized the back of my very simple a-line cut is even more crooked than I initially thought. While I wasn’t able to see the back of my hair during the cut I could obviously see the front of my hair, which is also uneven. During the cut I pointed this out to the«stylist». Her response, «It actually is even, it just doesn’t look like it.» Wtf? After several attempts to try to get her to see my pov I gave up, thinking I could just tuck the longer side behind my ear or something(how sad). I have tried completely straightening all of my hair to see if it would help the unevenness. Nope. It just makes the unevenness more obvious. This cut just gets worse and worse. I can’t wait until it grows out so I can get it fixed somewhere else. I DONOT recommend Avissa Salon.

I have been seeing Kimea for about 2 years now for my waxing. The after work hours are great and there is plenty of free parking. They have a big jar of treats to nibble on and always offer me a drink while I wait. Kimea is professional and personable, and she uses wax that smells like chocolate! She does a great job and the prices are reasonable. The rest of the staff are so friendly; they always make me feel welcome.

I have been going here for about 6 months now for Brazilians. Although I think that hot waxing is painful and I do prefer hard wax, I love coming here and seeing Shushu so much that I can’t imagine going anywhere else. She is so sweet, and she makes you feel so comfortable during the process. She sometimes misses some spots but I never really mind, I’ve never had a perfect one to be honest, and I go so long between waxes anyways. Highly recommend it.

New to town and needed a haircut, fast! Just got a men’s cut by Kristin. She was nice enough to squeeze me in as a walk in while she was coloring a different client’s hair. Great haircut on the fly. Good conversation. Accommodating hours. Great location, totally walkable from the white coat ghetto and a short drive from Kerrytown. I will definitely be going back. Looks like they have a wide variety of services for female clients. Bonus: they have a keurig…

I have been to Avissa twice, and I think the staff is friendly and it is a nice salon. I have had a cut and color and a Brazilian wax, and both were well executed. My hair was done by a woman who is no longer there, and I am not sure I am really satisfied with it. I am a natural blonde, and I went into to get highlights, but the hair dresser and I talked about going darker instead, and when I was unsure, she suggested that I go for it because it is semi permanent and will wash out in 2 months. Well it has been nearly 3 months and my hair is still brown, though now a faded almost reddish thing. I am not excited to pay to have my hair fixed when I was told it would be more or less back to normal in 2 months. This is not Avissa’s fault, and since that stylist is gone, I wouldn’t hold it against the salon. My Brazilian was done by a very friendly woman, but it was rushed and not done completely. To her credit, she had me take a look to see if I was satisfied and I said yes, not noticing the places where it wasn’t completed. I am undecided if I will return for another, but I consider it because the staff was so pleasant and that is important for such a personal interaction.

I had heard that threading was painless compared to waxing so I came to Avissa to try it out. Not only was Shohreh efficient and friendly, she gave me an assessment of my skin and gave me a facial oil treatment for no extra charge. The threading was indeed *almost* painless and almost soothing compared to my usual appointments. I can’t wait for my next visit!

Made an appointment for a shellac mani a month in advance. Was called the day before my appointment and told that they are not open on Sundays and my appointment had been made by mistake. How was this not realized sooner than the day before my appointment? No apology from the manager. Will not be trying Avissa ever again.

I came here to get a shellac manicure with a groupon. Kimia did a great job — she was very quick and neat and I love the way my nails look. She was also very nice and provided great customer service. I’d definitely come back for another manicure!

I went to this place to get my first brazilian wax. My first problem was that the lady kept using the same stick. I was uneasy that she did not use a fresh stick with every new dip. That was unsanitary in my opinion. If she did it for me, I am sure she has done it with other customers. I don’t plan to return.
