Our teenage daughter had a session with Elizabeth Colburn yesterday to have her makeup done for homecoming. We used Elizabeth in the past for our older daughter’s senior pictures as well. She is extremely talented, and patient with young adults. She talked with our daughter to make sure she knew what she wanted. The outcome was not only beautiful, but age appropriate.

Anneke’s is a mainstay of downtown Ann Arbor now for more than 25 years — located a hop from the corner of Main and Liberty — it’s easy to find with its beautiful glass storefront. My most recent visit was for a conditioning treatment and blow out with the J Beverly Hills Platinum line. The current promotion will get you a bag with 5 full size products to maintain your soft new main, tote bag, and J BH hairbrush. The repair and treatment service is $ 50 but if you want the bag of products, the current promo will get you both the treatment and bag for $ 168. The bag of products itself retails for $ 189. It’s a great deal for this new line of Platinum from J BH. J Beverly Hills is just one line offered at Anneke’s and it has never let me down. I love the stuff so I am always eager to try whatever new item they have out. Anneke’s stylists aren’t married to a certain line and will customize their recommendation to your needs, not their products. They do carry other lines as well; it’s just me that is partial. I usually see Jen F, but this visit was with Ellen. Jen F has been my go stylist for years — from trims, to color, to special occasions(my wedding) and the after wedding chop. The treatment process with Ellen took about 45 mins and the results were fantastic! Ellen was very knowledge, pleasant and welcoming for my first time in her chair. I took along a girlfriend and we had a great experience. Even if you don’t get a cut every month, this treatment is something we will consider getting regularly. Anneke’s is a full service salon for women, men and children. Their website is very detailed. Check them out, and take a friend.

I’ve been coming here to see Ellen for years and she always does a great job! She listens to my requests and does a meticulous job every time. I have straight, thick Asian hair as well, so for the Asian girls out there, look no further. The receptionists are also helpful and easy to reach. Highly recommend!

I’ve been pretty disappointed with my experience thus far. After reading some nice recommendations about this salon I called to book hair and make-up for my wedding party. The receptionist was nice enough, but it was frustrating that, since all of the stylists work as independents I guess, she couldn’t give me a ballpark price range. If I was just going for a trim, ok, but for a large group I need to know if this is within my budget. Still, I understand the situation. That said, she said that she would get back to me with the stylists’ names and more information. I never got a return phone call. With so many salons in the area I wont be calling back.

Another 6 months… another haircut… another review update. Does no one else go here? This time I visited a different stylist, Sandra, but had just as good of an experience. I don’t know if this is a salon-wide philosophy or what, but what I really noticed and appreciated about both stylists that I’ve seen here, is that they didn’t do anything I did not ask them to do. I’ve been in a growing-out phase for quite some time, and neither of these ladies insisted on taking off half an inch to clean up ends, or anything. In fact, Sandra somehow breathed new life into my monstrous mane without cutting straight up from the bottom at any point. I’m pretty timid about expressing my preferences, so I appreciate the soft touch, and not having to fight with anyone about what is, after all, my hair. When Sandra asked me about how I usually style my hair(let the part fall, haphazardly where it may? yeah. Blowdrying? Rarely. Product? Nope) I admitted that, when it comes to my hair, I’m pretty lazy. Her response summed up what I like about Anneke’s: «I’m not here to judge. I’m here to make it work.» They’re easygoing, and I always leave feeling shiny, bouncy, and confident that my hair will look good again tomorrow, because it doesn’t require professional skills to «make it work.» Thanks, Anneke’s!
