I have to give Amer’s props for adding açai bowls to the menu. Sadly, they leave a lot to be desired. Bowls are not smoothies — they should not have the consistency of soup. Instead, they should be like a soft serve sorbet. The flavor also suffered from an overdose of almond milk. The best açai bowls I have had used apple juice; and then just enough to make the frozen fruit blend together(most places need to use a plunger to push down the mix as it blends). My advice is that they need to go back to the drawing board on this one. It could be so much better.

Yup, three stars. Ate here just to eat here on the worst day to eat here(had to battle the line of people getting free cone day at Ben and Jerry’s). They’ve remodeled the place so its much smaller. Like, all the hang-out/eat-space is gone. There’s like four tables at the front and maybe another four against the wall. It was pretty chill when I walked in and the staff was very friendly with me. All their sandwiches are arranged by meat which was nice. And I enjoyed my Reuben, but I’m not sure I $ 9.99-enjoyed it. They’ve also got a whole slew of sides. The small side of potato salad(~$ 2.63) wasn’t bad but it definitely did not blow me away. All in all, it was a positive experience and I’d eat here again – it’s just not on the list of my top favorite go-to places.

Staff is super friendly! Good food and good coffee. Probably my favorite place to study in all of Ann Arbor. I like their house coffee, and mushroom salad. Falafel sandwich is pretty solid as well.

Excellent sandwich board(menu), including lots of vegetarian sandwiches. If you can’t find a combination that interests you, they will make it. Order at the counter. They will take your name and call it out when ready. The sandwiches are large and well-filled. They also come with huge new dill pickles. This location also carries an excellent variety of prepared salads and food to heat up. This place sure beats the chains that surround it.

This is my FAVORITE place in Ann Arbor to get a sandwich– forget Zingermans! Their sandwich menu is ridiculously large, so prepare to have a hard time making a decision on what to have! I am a huge fan of their reubens… their sandwiches are massive and piled high with fixings. I have never had anything from the deli case, so I can’t speak to that. But if you order a sammy, get the fries. They’re great. I’m not into frozen yogurt, but if you are, they have a great frozen yogurt bar with a lot of toppings.

New city, new foods! I’m a big fan of this place, and have come here on multiple occasions(I personally prefer the one on South University because there are couches to sit at). This place is my go-to sandwich/bagel stop. I have gotten their lox bagel for breakfast(almost-perfect – I thought them adding tomato slices to a lox bagel was a bit strange), which I am definitely going to get again the next time I decide to treat myself($ 10+ for a lox bagel is expensive, in my opinion). What I love about this place is the HUGE variety of sandwich, salad, and salad options. Best part? A HUGE variety for pescatarians/vegetarians like me! Lindsey’s True Grazer is my personal favorite: avocado, hummus, tomato, spinach, and sprouts on wheat bread. There are, however, so many other sandwiches I want to try. All in all, a place I like to frequent, despite it being on the more pricey side. Fresh bread and ingredients, and the portions are plenty(plus, who doesn’t love a pickle on the side?)!

Wide variety of menu choices but don’t go for Chicago Hots. They have NO flavor and were barely even warm! Good French fries though.

I used to love going to this place years ago, loved the sandwiches, coffee, and ambiance. But sadly, this place has really gone downhill. It’s dirty and not kept up. Several of the booths have badly torn seats that have been like that for at least several years, but they’re getting pretty nasty. As for unsanitary… For instance, last time I was there I went to get a metal fork out of the bin(their silverware is kept in cylinder shaped containers). The fork one looked empty so I tipped it to make sure, and I noticed that along with the two forks that were left in there, there were also a bunch of insects & a couple of flies at the bottom of the container, touching the remaining silverware. I went to grab a knife and it was the same same situation. There’s no way that the dirt & insects collected from just the past week or something, I mean it was really nasty. I opted to grab a plastic fork seeing as they weren’t touching the bottom of the bin. I went there another time for frozen yogurt and they sometimes have a small plastic bowl by the cashier with sample cups in it. When I went to get a sample cup I looked in the bowl and noticed that it was also dirty with a couple of dead fruit flies and who knows what else in there. I asked the guy at the cashier(I think he is the manager) if I could have a fresh sample cup and he offered the cups in the bowl, and I said nicely«I know, but actually the bowl is dirty». He didn’t say anything so I just took the 2 cups that were in there b/c I was embarrassed(wasn’t going to actually use them), and at that point he turned around and got a refill stack of sample cups and put them in the same dirty bowl. I guess they don’t even care. The last sandwich I ordered I had a chicken breast on it and even though there were other condiments on the sandwich, it was pretty much the blandest and most disgusting chicken breast sandwich I’ve ever had. The chicken tasted rubbery and tasteless. Years ago I would always get the Ruben but it’s not even what it used to be anymore, I don’t know how the whole place could’ve change so much. Sometimes the sandwiches seem to have half the meat as other times I go. Sometimes my order is wrong, but that’s forgivable. As for customer service… The last time my sandwich was wrong, I brought it up to the counter to explain the situation to the girl who was standing behind the salads, and she told me I needed to wait until somebody specific came out(I don’t remember who she said needed to come out, but apparently somebody who could handle it). I literally stood there for almost 5 minutes and asked her again, she was rude and annoyed and finally went to get somebody who was back by the cooks to take care of it. Of course I missed eating dinner with my group. And the new sandwich took almost 15 minutes to be brought out, so clearly they were not rushing it for me, even though it was obviously their fault that they mixed up my order. I used to love this place so much, so I keep giving it another chance, but I think I’ve exhausted my hopes of it being worth my money and not disgusting me when I go. There are a couple of other sandwich places downtown that are excellent and comparably priced, no need to spend my money on an establishment that no longer cares about their patrons or keeping their place up.

We’re in town for my 20 year Ross reunion so we had to check out an old favorite. This place is still amazing and the Brooklyn club is out of this world. The spinach lentil soup is savory and satisfying. We didn’t have room for dessert but the selection is fantastic.

Sooo… I’ve walked by Amers hundreds of times during my graduate school career. It was hot today so I stopped in bc I wanted a sandwich fast so I could get out of the heat and back to work. Now I know I wasn’t missing anything. This place is terrible. There were several people in line, it I saw several employees– so I thought it would be fine. I was very wrong. It was the lunch hour, and it took me 10 min to order. Not bc of the«crowd»(there were only 5 people ahead of me), buy bc this place is a hot mess. I got in line and waited. Two young ladies behind the counter took ten minutes making 3 Italian sodas and 2 crepes. I made eye contact with the two gentlemen that were behind another counter at least 4 times. Each time, they looked away. A middle aged white woman stepped up to the counter where the two gentleman were making sandwiches. One of them IMMEDIATELY asked«have you been helped?». She began to order. I interrupted and politely informed the man that I had been waiting to order for some time. He mumbled sorry and then asked what I wanted in an annoyed tone. Took 20 min total to get my turkey sandwich. There is no order or direction. There is no way to now where to order or pay. The staff makes it clear that they wish you weren’t there. Avoid this place.

Good place for a quick meal– especially later when all other restaurants on state are closed(this place closes at 11pm). The spinach pocket was good, but should be warmed up before you eat it for optimal taste. Baba ghanoush here is probably my favorite, if you ask for bread they’re not stingy about it. Tuna salad is good. They have a bunch of vegetarian options. Definitely worth a visit!

Drove all the way from Ohio for an Italian beef. It was sooooooo salty we asked them to remake and then tried it again. Had to stop eating. I typically enjoy the Italian beef here but today they were way off

Really good deli with a ton of options for sandwiches, salads, side dishes, coffee, froyo, and dessert. Everything is tasty and customizable– good option if you have any dietary constraints. They’re unusually slow at making somewhat simple sandwiches, which can be frustrating, and they are a bit over-priced on all fronts. The state st location is a great place to dine-in if you have some time, though. Super comfortable, relaxed, and bright.

First, the customer service leaves alot to be desired. I called my order in and was passed around before I even placed my order. Then the guy who finally took my order, had me repeating myself 2 and 3 times because he was not listening. I order a plain corned beef sandwich with Swiss cheese. That’s it. It cost me $ 10. Then when I went to eat my sandwich, it was 10% cheese, 20% meat, and 70% bread. First and last time at this deli.

I have yet to stop here for their specialty dogs, but they have great dessert during the nighttime. There’s frozen yogurt and a variety of other things from cheesecake to lemon bars.

I’ve been to Amer’s many times but never got around to writing a review for them… Deli Section: I’ll start off by saying that all sandwiches here are generously stuffed with whatever it is you’re ordering, so, unless you really love meat, a Small or Regular should suffice. On my most recent visit, I ordered the Brooklyn Reuben. I ordered the Supper so the corned beef portions were ridiculously huge. The meat itself was sub-par: meat was somewhat bland probably because they didn’t brine it very well and the bread’s exterior was so tough that it slices through your mouth. Before that I ordered the Chicken Pesto sandwich which was pretty good. Again, the protein portions were huge and the bread sliced through your mouth but everything else was delicious. Hot Dog Section: While there are other many other hot dog vendors across AA, I’ve always enjoyed Amer’s dogs because their ingredients were always relatively fresh. The only downside is how they prepare their actual hot dogs which is heated in a hot water bath. If they grilled the hot dogs, it would be perfection. If you get a chance to dine here, definitely try their Chicago Dogs! Their french fries are also made to order and another great choice. Frozen Yogurt Section: Not much to say here; I was never a fan of Amer’s frozen yogurt mainly because it always comes out so runny as if the yogurt wasn’t kept at a proper temperature. However, their selection of toppings is very abundant ranging from cereals to chocolates to fruits. Overall, while the Deli section wouldn’t be my first choice, I’ve found their hot dog section to be the redeeming quality here. I’ll be back to try their breakfast menu sometime and do an update.

It’s been ages since I’ve been to Amer’s… this location is nice place to meet up with friends for coffee, desserts and to hang out or just to get caught up on things. Last time I was there, I got a special hot drink(i forget the name) and a friend had their crêpe with nutella and banana. The nameless drink was excellent, the crêpe was good too, but too rich… they do put lot of nutella in that thing… I have tried their froyo before and not a fan of it… but next time I come by, I’ll have to try other offerings.

Worst Reuben! The place is dead… the corned beef tastes like it’s been cooked & pre-sliced hours ago. Frozen bread! Don’t waste time coming here. Go to Zingermans…

Stopped into this deli/coffee house on State Street in heart of the Deuce on a gorgeous summer evening before a concert at Hill. I’ve been here many times before, mostly when in need of a quick, unplanned, bite to tide me over. Pacing back and forth surveying Amer’s deli counter, I selected the white Albacore tuna salad on their hearty rye with a mini side of cheese-filled tortellini with roasted red peppers. To my surprise, the quality of the tuna was excellent while the tortellini just met expectations. Despite a little bit of an attitude by the girl behind the counter, my overall experience was good and as expected. Make no mistake about it. Amer’s is not trying to be Zingerman’s.

Man that is a large ass menu! I am visiting from California, and my first breakfast in Ann Arbor was Amer’s egg sandwich on Challah. Maybe it was because I had been travelling for 8 hours, or maybe it was because I was starving, but I thoroughly enjoyed that sandwich. I made love to it. I cherished it. Pretty simple, 2 fried eggs, lettuce, tomato, on challah, but everything was done so well! Fried eggs were crisp on the outside, yet the yolk was gooey. Lettuce & Tomato were fresh and abundant, while the bread was soft and probably made that morning. Just what I wanted, and for a decent price too!
