HuHot Mongolian Grill

Food was alright. Meat was sometimes overcooked/​overdone, but it was a good experience overall.

We have been here a few times now and it is alway busy when we go. Parking can be a hassle even though there is a parking lot. It is located in a strip mall so the lot is for several other shops as well. The staff greeting you are generally friendly. Only one time did we have to wait to be seated due to overcrowding. We would not have waited but for the ‘birthday person’ wanted to eat here. We were eventually seated and I always order water because the uncharge on soda in restaurants is insane unless you are going to sit there for a few hours and drink several. I have never ordered anything off the menu other than the ‘buffet’ as it is more than enough to fill you up. We made our way to the line and chose our ingredients. Everything is kept frozen in order to maintain food safety. I always go for THE spiciest oil which still isn’t super hot. The cooks are always efficient and cook your food well. Tip them. They work hard for you, probably harder than your wait staff does, at least that was the case with our wait staff. Our food was good, fresh and hot. It is generally clean. It was a nice night out but with the amount they charge on the weekends and in the evenings it is too pricey to go very often. The only thing I wish they would change is the size of their bowls. I get why they are so small, to cut down on waste, but it is difficult to eat from them comfortably without making a mess.

Food was kept frozen and at safe temperatures until it was ready for the grill. Staff kept the ingredient areas clean and made sure food didn’t find its way into other bins.
Tables were kept clean and wait staff was fast and friendly always making sure our drinks were full.
The food was very good. Then again you pick out what you want in it. They do have guides in case you are at a loss of what to make.
It is a bit expensive but it’s a fun experience and all you can eat.

Tonight wasn’t anything overly awesome. Got there at a time when you think it would be packed with waiting and half of the place seemed empty.
Five stars to our waitress Kelly. She was quick, attentive, and kept our table clean and drinks full.
I do want to say that, yes, with this chain the grill is used with everyone’s food. If you think about it every restaurant is doing the same thing in the kitchen. It’s doing it right in front of you is difference. .and in a circle. If you have special needs regarding good
The wait staff was really on top of table cleaning tonight. As soon as someone left they would have it cleaned up.
I had the egg drop soup. It sounded really good but it was really salty. The soup was mediocre.
They had good food selections and flavors. I haven’t seen eggs on the bar since before the bird flu. Miss having eggs in my meals.

I wish I could leave no stars. My worst experience in Ankeny to date! Our seats and table were filthy. We were sat in the corner and watched other tables get service before us. After about 10 minutes of watching this we decided to leave. As we left we told the hostess of our experience and she simply shrugged. Terrible experience and the food is at best mediocre.

First time visit here. Service was excellent, food was good. Not bad, but nothing too exceptional. I like the fact that you can basically create your own meal using several different kinds of meats, veggies, noodles, and sauces. Then it goes to the guys working the grill where they grill it up on a flat iron grill and then serve it back to you piping hot. Our waitress was very attentive. Would definitely go back.

Great Place to create your own unique dish of food. Fast, Fun, and the staff is always friendly.

Everything here is pretty consistent with most of the HuHot restaurants I’ve eaten at. Unfortunately, I did not see calamari or eggs on the bar and the sauce/​season recommendations were limited. Overall, food was good and service was great. I will return.

The grill looked like it may have been too hot because they were burning noodles and overcooking the food. I’ll stick to the wdm location.

Love this place, great flavor and a good selection of vegetables which is often limited at most restaurants. Always clean and has good efficient service. One of the best places to eat in Ankeny.

My family and I love this place so much. Even more so than the other Hu Hot locations. Great atmosphere and amazing food! Gonna miss it when I move to Arizona!

The first time I had Mongolian grill it was in high school at a local place which I hated, it made me not want to try Mongolian grill ever again. It was during lunch at work when my coworkers wanted to eat at HuHot and dragged me along. It is so amazing here, I loved it immediately.
There is a descent selection of food you can choose from to be cooked, and the different sauce combinations can give you different flavor varieties. This location is usually pretty busy, but the wait to get your food cooked is not too bad. The price is good for what you get. Atmosphere is inviting, a good family place.
There was a period of time where I ate here every week because I enjoyed it so much. Staff is always friendly here.

Pick your meat, veggies, starch and sauces and handsome grill masters cook em up for you. The servers are great, food is tasty and it’s a handsome place.

Yum. I love the food at Hu Hot and the fact that you get to build your own meal. The grill is always pretty busy but never takes too long to get through and sit back down to eat. The cooks are all super nice and efficient while they cook and some even have sweet tattoos! I’ve never had a bad experience and that is saying something since I’ve gone so many times the staff has begun to recognize me. Great staff, awesome food, fun atmosphere, five stars!

HuHot is a fairly typical Mongolian grill, except perhaps not as well executed as others I have been to. The service is fast and friendly and it doesn’t take a very long time to get through the line to get your food grilled, but the selections of meat and veggies available are a little skimpy compared to other Mongolian grills I have visited.
The sauce selections were good, though, and my end product was pretty darn tasty. I wouldn’t hesitate to visit again when visiting the area since there aren’t a lot of top notch, non-​chain restaurants in the area. This is certainly among the best places I’ve eaten in Central Iowa.

I like the concept of Mongolian grills, and this one does a good job. Good assortment of meat and veggies. Good sauce selection. Fast cooking. Overall, the so a nice job. The one downside of this chain is that they do not have extra sauces available after cooking, so things end up a little bland even if if you aggressively sauce things before cooking.
Decent spot, does what it does pretty well.

HuHot takes some patience but this location in particular really tests your patience to the next level. The set up is so cramped together. When you are trying to get your sauces people just stand there because they have no where else to go once they are ready to go up to the grill. There just isn’t enough room. I prefer the West Des Moines location completely.

HuHot. The Mongolian grill that started the thrill of Mongolian grills for me. I enjoy this location much more than the West Des Moines «original» that brought this dining gimmick to central Iowa. HuHot is one of the better options of the national chains that serve this style of food.
Quality meats and vegetables, an easy to use menu system to help you build your entrée sauces, and a much more relaxed and less crowded atmosphere from their other location make this a great stop to learn about or revisit the art of Mongolian BBQ.
