Love this place! Its our go to on the way to our cabin every time. My kids favorites are the nuggets, spuds and mac-cheese. The nuggets are huge and juicy. They also like«chicken on the bone». I like the bbq and valley sauce. They are made daily in the restaurant. Since I stay away from fried food I get the chicken bowl or rotisserie chicken and salad. Hubby likes the barn burners(hot wings). Nice atmosphere and great staff. Sometimes I get a whole rotisserie to go and we eat off it all weekend.

Very good little chicken fast food restaurant. I love to support local and this place is quite tasty. The chicken nuggets are very good and my husband loves the wings. The restaurant is clean and so much better than a chain like KFC.

If you’ll look at my other reviews you’ll know I don’t usually go for the low blow. Unfortunately this is one case where I feel the need to chime in. Call it constructive criticism. Me and the girl went here to pick up some good for a picnic and decided to get two meals. Each comes with a biscuit and 2 sides. However, at the time they were out of dark meat which would be an additional 20 min wait if we wanted it(Strike 1). After a fairly long wait in the drive through line(about 10 – 5 mins) we received our food and the bills was a little over $ 20…yes two meals for $ 20. Granted it was a lot of good but still that’s a little pricy for fast food.(Strike 2). We arrived at our picnic spot and sat down to eat I tried my soda and immediately spat it out with a lingering tingly feeling left in my mouth and an extremely nasty chemical taste. It was undrinkable and we also discovered the Mac and cheese had a distinct taste to it as well so we didn’t eat this either. The chicken was very good and so we’re the other sides(coleslaw, potato salad, and biscuits), but in the end I felt my $ 20 was largely a waste. Again I hate negative reviews and being the«bad guy» but I just needed to recount my experience. It may be that this was unique but I’m unlikely to go back and find out.

If in the area and you want chicken, this is your place. I don’t know why, but I prefer the Modesto McHenry location a little better, but this place is still really good. Like all Chicken Barn restaurants the nuggets here are the real deal. Prices are decent too, better than comparable restaurants.

I honestly am only giving one star because I have to. I don’t know how this place replaced a KFC and is still in business. First, I was shocked at the prices of the nuggets so I decided to have some chicken on the bone. Decided on the 1PC breast meal. It came with«spuds» and a biscuit. I added a small mac and cheese to top it off. Pros: Didn’t take long for my order. Cons: Everything else. First, I was kind of surprised when I received my food because it came in a paper bag when every other competitor has a box of some sort. Then I open it and I come face to face with a chicken breast that seemed good, and a biscuit that could’ve been used in an NHL game. So hard and stale. I then reach in the bag to find my «spuds,» large cut wedges with some type of batter on them. They were hot, but tasteless and mushy. KFC has them beat on these by a LANDSLIDE. Then there’s the Mac & Cheese, DISGUSTING. So bland and processed tasting. I literally took one bite and quickly spit it back into its container. Probably tied for«worst I’ve ever had» with Long John Silver’s Mac. Ugh. The chicken breast was fair, but it had been sitting for a while and I didn’t care for the smell it had. Idk, maybe I’m too accustomed to KFC/Popeye’s. I took one bite and tossed it back in the bag. The food is definitely not spectacular and if KFC couldn’t keep the lights on, I don’t know how this place is! This has nothing to do with the service, because I was a drive thru customer and didn’t have an issue with the employees, but I just could not believe what I was eating. All in all, I basically paid $ 8.03 for a 20 oz Dr. Pepper. I would’ve been better off buying a drink at the movie theater. Will definitely keep going to KFC in Sonora from now on, much better food and is CHEAPER to boot! Chicken Barn, sorry, but never coming back.

This was our first time eating here. I got there right before they were closing. I have to say it was the best fast food fried chicken I have every had, maybe one of the best fried chickens anywhere. The batter was nice and light and crispy. It was not oily at all and very juicy meat. They ran out of thighs so the manager asked if he could put in some breasts instead. I said of course, who wouldn’t want some bigger pieces. The breasts were big too. There were so much chicken inside that box wouldn’t close all the way. We had mash potatoes and gravy and corn on the cob as our sides. The mashed potatoes tasted great. They tasted home made, there wasn’t any funny processed taste like at KFC. Although I do crave that processed mashed potatoe flavor every so often. Lol ! The gravy was very good and the corn on the cob was great. They didn’t look like were sitting in water forever and it so had that crunch/pop when you bit into them. I asked for some dipping sauce to try. I got the teriyaki sauce, which was pretty good. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant was clean. I will definately go back to this place the next time we use our timeshare the in Angels Camp. There were some other items on the menu I want try next. Happy eating !!!

Great chicken for a «fast food» place with reasonable prices. Wasn’t quite what was expected based on magazine advert. It’s perhaps a franchise but was unknown to us.

This is a great fast-food-type chicken place that, we learned after going here, is a small local«chain» with a couple restaurants in Modesto and one in Angel’s Camp. We recently decided to stop here on a drive through town when our usual places were closed and we noticed a very nice, fresh fried-chicken aroma coming from it. Their fried chicken is great, they have not only white meat but also dark meat items — such as the fillet sandwich, the batter is great, the freshly fried chicken excellent. Sandwiches have a nice amount of mayonnaise and other toppings. They also have chicken pot pie with lots of great chicken pieces, a teriyaki chicken stir fry with lots of white and dark meat chicken plus lots of vegetables. «Spuds» are big batter-fried potato wedges which are fun and they have really good desserts — the cheesecake and carrot cake were both great. They even make their own dressings, etc. Service is friendly and helpful and the place is clean and attractive inside. They did a nice job of sprucing up what I think used to be a KFC before. This is overall an excellent place for a quick, inexpensive and enjoyable meal that will be a new stand-by when we are in town or in Modesto.

Stopped by here on my way back to my hotel after a long day’s work. The chicken was absolutely WONDERFUL! The mashed potatoes and gravy and corn were very hot. The only bad thing I could come up with was the biscuit was a bit old and hard. But I didn’t stop for the biscuit… Definitely going to recommend this to my fellow coworkers!

Had to attend a meeting in Angels Camp last night. Went early so I would have time to eat. The chicken barn caught my eye. It’s located conspicuously on the corner of Highway 49 and Murphy’s Grade Road. The place used to be a KFC. You can’t miss it! Nicely laid out inside… pleasant atmosphere. Comprehensive menu right above the ordering counter. Travis was very helpful in helping me decide what to order, explaining my options. I received my order in bags even though I thought I told them it was for ‘dine in’ but that was not a problem. Three piece meal comes with two breasts, a wing and your choice of two sides. I chose coleslaw and wedge potatoes. Both of the sides were better than the chicken. The chicken breasts were tough tough tough to chew chew chew. Sadly the wing was not much better. I’m no chicken expert but maybe those were old chickens? :-) They have specials each day that are great deals. I also ordered two barbecue chicken sandwiches on a bun for $ 2.49. A real deal at that price. They were better than the chicken. The place is clean. The employees are efficient and friendly. There is a chance that I might stop there again and try something else. Kudos to Travis!

Stayed in Angel’s Camp for a few days and tried this place once for lunch. Pros: super friendly staff, very clean inside Cons: the food :-/ Ordered: –Hot wings: flavor was ok, meat was good, overall very greasy. Would not order again. –Chicken wings: slightly overlooked, but good –Regular fried chicken: good –Kid’s chicken nuggets: good –Sides: Potato spuds: awful, fried potato wedges that were mushy and flavorless Mac n cheese: looked good but was awful, tasteless and very bland. I gave it 2 bites and just couldn’t even try more. My kids wouldn’t even eat it and they love mac n cheese of all sorts. In short, the chicken and soda was fine, but all other food was awful. If they tweaked a few things it has potential, but for now we’re out $ 40 and bummed.

Was staying next door, and REALLY didn’t want to drive anywhere for dinner, so decided to check this place out. Walking in, looks like a FF joint — but, to their credit, everything seems to be made to order. After checking out a HUUUUUGGEE menu(which, shockingly, consists mostly of chicken), decided to go with a grilled chicken sandwich — then saw that they had coleslaw, and ordered a side. For the coleslaw… da. amn. This is some GOOD stuff! Not sure how they could change it for the better… truly. The grilled chicken sandwich. On the plus side, a very nice(and real) chicken breast, perfectly grilled. On the not so plus side, the bun was designed to hold a 45 lb burger. I kid you not. I could use it as a spare tire… it was just ludicrous. At the end of the day, I went with a grilled chicken, sans bun, and was about as happy as I could be… To keep it real, I’m not into fried food, and most of the items here are… so can’t comment on that. BUT… for the small window of what I tried, the place is pretty danged good.

Chicken barn offers your standard chicken plate offerings like chicken wings, nuggets, or meals w sides. The name caught our eye, and the food didn’t disappoint. We stopped by on a weekend trip to Sheep ranch, and this place was clean and the staff was very nice. The chicken nuggets are way better than McDonald’s, juicy nuggets with light breading. We ordered some wings and nuggets to share, we liked how spicy the wings are, and the fries were also pretty solid. I recommend stopping by for some nuggets or wings if you’re passing by Calaveras county

Chicken Barn is amazing! It’s way better than any KFC or El Pollo Loco I’ve ever been too. We are from out of town but we stop here every time we pass through! The Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, and corn on the cob are the best sides! Try all the dipping sauces! The chicken is fresh and good every time! Also this place isn’t all that expensive! Great and cheap, who doesn’t love that?!

My boyfriend and I always drive past this place on our way to his parents house. It’s totally in the middle of nowhere and seems like it would be a mediocre fast food place. But it’s not! It’s actually pretty delicious. The prices are super affordable, with meal prices being around 6 dollars. A meal includes one chicken item, a side and a drink. I got the small nugget meal with Mac and cheese. The nuggets are freshly breaded and nice big hunks of chicken. The Mac and cheese though was so gross. I took one bite and it ended up in the trash. I would suggest the cole slaw which my boyfriend got and it was great. Next time we are driving past we will have to stop again. For such cheap prices you end up with a pretty great meal.

The chicken here is pretty good. Think KFC. Similar in style of batter, meaning not crispy, and with less kick. The mashed potatoes and gravy are, again, reminiscent of KFC, but the slaw has too much mayo. I did like the chicken, but thought their prices to be on the high side for a fast food place. The nuggets were, as others have said, all large chunks of breast meat, and are pretty good, but without the crispy batter. I would choose this place over KFC if I had a coupon for it.
