The very best strawberries in the world! Big or small, they’re always juicy and sweet! Prices for organic PYO are so great here! It isn’t officially summer in my heart until I’ve picked at Thompson Finch Farm!

Thompson-Finch Farm is a wonderful place to pick your own strawberries and blueberries, and best of all, they grow their fruit organically(certified, too). My husband and I visited T-F Farm in June 2013 to pick strawberries and returned in July 2013 for blueberries. The farm is about a 20-minute drive from the Taconic Parkway and easy to find. Both the strawberry and blueberry patches were easily walked. We saw many families with small children who seemed to travel through the fields just fine. The farmers and their assistants were quite friendly and helpful in answering our questions and letting us know where the best picking would be. When we started picking strawberries, we were actually in a non-picking area by mistake. Instead of being mean about the mistake as would be the case at some other farms, the farmer was pleasant in directing us to where were supposed to be picking. As far as organic berries go, T-F Farm offers fair prices. Although they have berry crates that you can purchase, I suggest bringing your own containers. Obviously, they’ll pre-weigh them for you so that you don’t pay for their weight. The fruit itself is wonderfully tasty. We picked large quantities of both types of berries and froze a lot. The quality of the frozen fruit if great as well. Although we have to travel an hour and 45 minutes to get there, we will definitely return for apples in the fall and in the years to come. Thompson-Finch Farm is just that great!

It is the first week of June so it must be… Strawberry Season. Sweet! The L. and I made our pilgrimage up to Ancramdale to pick and load up on this summer fruit. It was Day Two of the season today and the berries were plentiful and juicy. And it is fun to sample along the way. For the next few days it will be a fresh strawberry frenzy in our home with plenty of them left over to freeze for the year. Our chickens particularly like them frozen as a treat on a hot day. Visiting Thompson Finch Farm is a great way to spend an hour or so in general and in particular with kids. The farm is a great example of the importance of small local family owned and maintained farms. They are certified organic as well.
