This restaurant has a lot of strong characteristics: 1. The servicing staff is very kind and friendly. There is a sense of being welcome when you eat here. 2. The food tastes authentic. They don’t tamper with the flavors to cater to the masses. There are certain Korean dishes that are meant to be salty(which some people may not like) and this restaurant stays true to that authenticity. 3. The ambiance and general feeling of the restaurant is warm. I appreciate the layout of the restaurant. 4. They gave us free tea :)

Love this place! The Korean food is super authentic(this is coming from a Korean) and it’s clean here. Come here for the food not the service!

After eating the phenomenal food here, I was so upset at myself for having driven by the place for literally eight years and not trying it! I felt like my quality of life would have been better if I had just listened to my friends who had told me to check it out. It’s above and beyond any other Korean place in Anchorage. I was so loyal to VIP, but the service there was lackluster. The service Here is Amazing. It’s like having Aunties who love you and serve you food. I will never go to another Korean place in Anchorage other than this one. The flavors were off the hook!!!

How have I lived in Anchorage for over 4 years and not found this place sooner? Fast, friendly, DELICIOUS. The bibimbap came in the hottest pot I’ve ever encountered and did an amazing job crisping the bottom of the rice.

I had a great time here. Strangely, I had a layover in Seoul just 3 days before, so it was fun to compare to my time there. The noodles were excellent, as were the dumplings. Everything tasted fresh and lively. The service was one woman but she was very much on top of it. I would highly recommend coming here if you like Korean food.

AMAZING. I’m Korean, am very picky with my Korean food but this is one of the best Korean restaurants I’ve ever been to — very authentic. The food is delicious and the prices are so reasonable. They have a weekday lunch special where you can get yummy galbi for $ 15(at other restaurants it’s usually $ 30) and it comes with a ton of banchon. The service is excellent even though it’s just one lady running around serving everywhere — she’s so cute and friendly. We actually came here 2 days in a row bc the food was that good. If I’m ever in Anchorage I’ll definitely come again!

Korean Food with that home cooked feeling that is sure to please everyone! To top it off, at the end of the meal, no mint here, instead, a slice of watermelons for each guest gives you that clean feeling. I will be back!

Unbelievable. So happy I found this place!!! It has two dollar signs but I left stuffed! Half of what I ate wasn’t even what I ordered because it comes with it for free. That includes the side dishes with rice and the tea with the meal and the dessert tea!?! I hardly had room for my noodles that I ordered! PLUS — my server kept asking if I wanted any more side dishes! What?!? This place is giving their delicious food away. How do they stay open? GOHERE!

First time eating here. Not very impressive from the outside for sure, but the inside was a very pleasant surprise… cute and warm. I love Korean food and had the bibimbap. It was served in a bowl with the meat, all the vegetables, and a over easy fried egg on top. The rice and Kochujang sauce on the side. I was given a generous 6 dishes of banchan(the little side dishes of stuff they give you). Kimchi of course, some dark, kinda sweet hard beans that were really good, some broccoli type slaw, two little squares of tofu, some type of meat in a savory sauce, it kindof reminded me of vienna sausages but they were larger, and couple squares of a seafood pancake, Everything was delicious! The waitresses were very polite, friendly and very attentive, refilling my tea twice, and checking in twice to see if everything was to my liking and asking if I wanted more of any of the side dishes. They were very friendly, kind and polite. I was so full by then I said ‘no thank you” but I will totally be coming back here again. I’m not meaning to sound racist for I’m absolutely not at all, but I have visited many Korean restaurants, or Korean run restaurants and honestly have received some of the worst service ever, not to mention been treated very rudely at pretty much ALL of them. I can only ascertain that it is because I’m caucasian and not Korean. It is truly one of the things that makes me think twice about going to a Korean restaurant at all. I mean seriously who wants to be treated badly, ignored, or even snubbed, when your there paying for your food. I have to say that Won Jo’s was a very pleasant and welcome surprise. Everyone was so nice, and it truly made the dinner experience much more positive! I’m always polite when I go out to eat, so its nice to not be judged and just treated like a real guest and equal instead of a bother. This is truly the first experience I have had in a Korean restaurant with the wait staff being extremely polite and respectful. I will continue to go back for that reason alone! The only negative I would report would be that they had a loud T. V playing a type of Korean«The Voice» type show. Folks were singing, then lots of cheering etc, blasting through the speakers that were on the wall. I found it distracting and just too loud to really relax and enjoy the meal fully. Being that this is the first meal I’ve had there and I haven’t tried anything else I’m giving them 4 stars, but if everything else is as good as my meal tonight I will for sure update it later.

We tried this one during our visit to alaska. The food is really good and the price is also very reasonable, compared with other pricy restaurant in alaska. I highly recommend this restaurant with good foods and service.

Wow! Could not have been more impressed with this place. The banchan spread(13 total) was truly phenomenal – every dish was tasty and very unique in taste and texture. There were a few dishes that I never experienced before, including kongjaban and what I think were perilla leaves, which were very welcome additions to the banchan I remember from the old Tofu House at this location. We ordered spicy squid with vegetables and the kimchi tofu stone pot soup, and both were delicious and under $ 15. The servers were very attentive too, several times asking if we wanted more rice or more of any of the banchan plates… Overall, a great experience – would recommend to Korean-aficionados and newbies alike!

Came in for lunch and sat at a booth. I was pretty excited to see plenty of Asians in there as it’s a sign the food is bound to be authentic and tasty. I ordered the kimchi Ddok Boggeum, which is kimchi and rice cake. It came out piping hot. I thought the price tag was a little spendy, but it does come with banchan so… I thought about ordering the tofu stew and will next time. It’s looks really good. Dining companion got the pork bulgogi and thought it was super tasty. All the banchan was good too. Our server was really nice and helpful with her opinions. Will come again.

A korean’s review: I’m in town for the week on business. My home is seattle Washington. After 2 meals here this week I can solidly say that this place is excellent and I will be back next time I’m in town. I tried another well rated tofu stew restaurant and this is by far superior. The kimchi soondubu chigae(soft tofu stew with kimchee) from a couple of days ago was excellent. Piping hot and they even threw in some pork for me — which is pretty traditional. The stew needs to be super piping hot to cook the raw egg that you crack in before you eat. The banchan(side dishes) was varied and all very good. Much better than another place that I tried earlier this week. Today I tried the soybean soup — which was also great. Hot. Which is a must. The ban chan was once again great. The assortment was different today so it seems they change it up daily. I didn’t try the meat dishes, but based on my 2 visits this week… it should be solid. If you are looking for great Korean food in anchorage, be sure to check out this place! I know that I’ll be back!

Oh boy! Won Jo was pleasant surprise. It doesn’t look like much from outside. The inside is cute and has ample seating despite its deceivingly small appearance from the outside. The menu is all over the map. Although they specialize in soondobu(tofu soup) they’ve got lots of other options. Prices vary widely. Lunch combo specials are $ 11.99. Most of their dinner options run 13 – 15 dollars. The most expensive items were a seafood combo and a *ahem* intenstine dish that both run 34 dollars. Their kalbi is some of the pricest I’ve seen anywhere so if that’s what you(24 dollars!!!) so if that’s your thing, go somewhere else. Other than that, their prices were consistent with what you expect to pay in Anchorage. My sweetie got the chicken bulgogi which was lip smacking. I got the kimchee dduboki(rice cakes)… man was it good! The best part of the meal was the banchan, which was the most generous amount I’ve had anywhere. For the ininitiated, banchan and tiny appetizers that are included in the price of the meal. Won Jo gives you a whopping 13! The average at most Korean eateries is 8. What was even better was our lovely server, Jasmine, kept them coming. Our server was extremely generous and hospitable. Generally, Korean restaraunts can be kinda standoffish toward non-Korean clientele, but these folks were really lovely. I’m sure they know that great service will keep people coming back. With so many Korean places in town with good food, service is a real tipping point for me. And Won Jo is doing things right!

My new favorite spot for tofu soup! Won Jo Tofu house took over the space that was previously occupied by Tofu House. The interior was slightly renovated by the new owners and it looks a lot brighter, cleaner, and less shabby. First off, I was extremely impressed by the excellent customer service. Everyone was warm, friendly, and inviting. The tofu soup was great; our request for«spicy» was actually spicy. They served more little plates of banchan than we’ve ever seen anywhere else in town. We will definitely be back!
