I love this place. Great memories as a kid with my family and now my family loves the place too. But The new owners are trying very very hard… But The ribs SUCK. they are soooo old and microwaved… I haven’t had fresh ribs in my last 5 or 6 trips there. Very disappointing. Everything else is great Alaska BBQ. But the ribs… suck … at least lately.

My first visit, quite a mixed experience, so let me break it down for ya fellas: Interior: Charming, old school, and a fireplace. It was quiet(slow). Service: My server was attentive and pleasant Value: You get a lot of food for the price for Anchorage Food: BBQ pork chunks were somehow both falling apart and tough at the same time, like they were cooked too long and then soaked? Best I can explain it. Seasoned nicely though. Fries were great, freshly prepared. Beans were a bit muddy with not much flavor. Buttered grilled bread I didn’t really care for. Not sure if it was really butter? A plain roll and butter would have been better. I’m not a big coleslaw person, so I’ll defer to others. Overall, I think the place has potential if they focus on improving their product. I had a lunch portion, which was plenty for dinner for me. I would rather have had less, but better food. Even if it was a little more $.

Once again a great plate of ribs. Fast pick-up service and tender meaty ribs. Especially good to eat in if you want to hear your table companions talk!

I have looked for a true Southern BBQ experience since moving here 4 years ago. I am still searching after eating at this restaurant. The service was non-existent. The sliced beef reminded me of what is found at Fred Myers Deli only no taste, the pork was an insult to pigs everywhere. The chicken and ribs were ok albeit a little dry. I requested sauce and was brought a plastic ramaken of 1 flavor of sauce, really? The silverware was not clean. I’m tempted to ask what the owners consider is a reasonable sale price. Do they own the bldg and surrounding property? DONTWASTEYOURTIMEANDMONEY, AVOIDATALLCOST

Tried to order to go over the phone. Server was not trained to handle a credit card. Was given the manager who said she didn’t have time for a to go and hung up on me. Called back again and was hung upon again. I was a customer for of this place for over 15 years. No longer. If I could give them zero stars I would. Sounds like the owners should fire the manager since she won’t even train the staff.

I went off hours, so I was the only patron = GREATSERVICE! Food was good. Ribs and chicken moist, BBQ sauce was tasty. Fries were a little undercooked. Beans… they were unique, but not bad. Cole slaw was good, but I don’t think it was home made. For the price, everything was great. The main parts of the meal were very tasty. I’ll be back to try some of the other items on the menu…

I had the«Eastern Spareribs» dinner(translation: St Louis-style half rack), and it was delicious. Ribs were very meaty. Came with the usual fries, slaw, beans, and garlic toast. In addition, the dinner included a relish plate with beets, carrots, peppers, and pickles. Topped it all off with a bowl of ice cream. Very reasonable price for Anchorage. Good service, too.

The best Baby Back barbeque ribs in town. I would only get ribs from this place from now on. My recommendation is to order the half rack or full rack of Baby Back Ribs. The meat is moist and very tender. The sauce is one of the best sauces I have had. I like the fireplace, kitchy interior, interesting artifacts, stuffed animal heads and the grizzly bear on the inside.

Been eating here my entire life. Place is bomb and has never let me down. BBQ sauce is delicious and I love the pork. I have been to places all over the united states and have never found pork that I liked as much. Of course I grew up on it, but others have told me they felt it was good as well. Can’t wait to be back in AK to eat some some BBQ Pit!

This place is homey and food is delicious. The sweet tea is my favorite. Some portions are good for sharing. Our waitress was also nice.

My companion said it best, «I’m not sure what that was that we just ate.» If you’re from BBQ country and feeling homesick for it, this place won’t cut it.

Good old fashion BBQ and very friendly staff. Dropped in on my way home and found out they have a bucket — already to feed the family. Building is older and it might look a little sketchy but clean with character — antiques on display — and a hidden gem on Dimond!

I tried this place about 20 years ago. I was not impressed back then but thought I would give them another shot. Not worth the visit. I got their combination with ribs, beef, and ham. None of the meats had any sort of rub or smoke ring, which is indicative of barbecue. The ham and the beef were shaved and could have easily been cut from a ham or roast beef that you find at your local deli. The ribs were very tender, but lacked a lot of flavor. The ribs appeared to be boiled and then baked off with some barbecue sauce. The sauce was very tasty. My meal was $ 24 and there was a lot of food on the plate, but barbecue this was not. Needless to say, this was my last trip to this restaurant.

Would rate this BBQ zero stars if I could. This is not BBQ.

I lived in Texas for 7 years and love good BBQ but this is not even close. The brisket is horrible — roast beef covered with BBQ sauce isn’t BBQ brisket(should have a flavorful rub, visible smoke ring, and slow cooked to be tender and juicy). The ribs are OK but way overpriced. What kind of BBQ restaurant doesn’t have sausage on the menu?

I went to this place last weekend to check out one of the few bar b que place in town. What a mistake! First, there was only one other couple eating dinner around 5:00PM on a Friday night — this should have been a clue. We both ended up getting the ribs. After we ordered a few minutes later we heard a microwave«bing» go off and they brought us our food. WTH, our«ribs’ came right out of the microwave and were so bad I could not hardly eat them. The fries were the cheap fries from the frozen section, and I dont think anything we ordered was made fresh. I would never go back…

Best BBQ in Anchorage! The baby back ribs were so tender & delicious that I wish that I had ordered the full rack! I can’t wait to go back for more.

I may have been spoiled by growing up in Chicago and then spending the last six years in Austin, TX, but I don’t think I’m being a barbecue snob when I say that this is among one of the most disappointing BBQ experiences I have ever had. The first bad sign was that during the Saturday night dinner time, the place was nearly empty. When I arrived, there was only one other table in use. By the time I left, there were three tables plus my own. The décor is kitschy, and slightly dirty. The huge stuffed brown bear is getting a little grey from dust. The furniture is slightly worn and a bit dated. Having never been there before, I asked the waitress for a recommendation. She advised I should try the polar bear plate, which has beef, pork, and ribs. When I inquired about brisket, I was informed that they do not have brisket. I know that should have been enough of a sign to leave, but for some reason, I persisted. The relish plate arrived first, and was very good. The pickles and pickled beets, and pickled cherry peppers were all really good and tasty. When the waitress brought a finger bowl with fresh lemon and a stack a napkins I thought… hmm… I may have been a bit quick to judge. Then, the food arrived. The portions were quite generous. The meats were served with french fries, cole slaw, beans, and garlic bread. And the portions of meat were huge. I started with the ribs, and they were very tasty. They were hot, and fell apart. The sauce was good and tasty, but not overpowering. Then I moved on to the beef and the pork. I’d say that is where it went south, but they generally do a good job of BBQ down south. It just want bad. The pile of pork on my plate wasn’t pulled pork or roast pork like I expected. It was ham. But it wasn’t just any ham. It was thin sliced lunch meat ham. If you put it in a plastic bag and labeled it Buddig, nobody would have guessed twice. The beef was only slightly better. It looked and tasted like the deli roast beef from the grocery store, only heated up and covered with sauce. I really wanted to have a good BBQ experience. I’ve eaten in some odd, dirty, and offbeat BBQ shacks, but this doesn’t compare with the worst of them. Thankfully, the service was good, and so was the iced tea. That took some of the edge off and made my experience semi pleasant. I ate the ribs, took the lunch meat to go. I guess I’ll make a chef’s salad tomorrow for lunch.

Holy pork, Batman! I’ve never been a huge BBQ fan, so when hubby and I were driving around looking for someplace for dinner, it’s kind of stunning that I did a U-turn on Dimond to get to this little place. It was about 7pm and there were only three cars in the lot. I, being a HUGE fan of small businesses, did the U-ie to get in. What a fortuitous event!!! The prices weren’t out of this world — there were a lot of options and a child/senior menu. I got the pub special(beef + pork) and hubby got the half rack. My sandwich was super! The meats were tender and the BBQ sauce was sweet and spicy at the same time. The half rack was super-sized, meaty, tender… just plain yummy! I was instructed by hubby to write, «killa ribs!» I agree that the smokey flavor was not there, but the meat was very tender and tasty with BBQ sauce. If you’re looking for super-duper ambiance, this may not be the place — there’s a bear overlooking the back section and a moose head overlooking the middle… but who notices ambiance when they’re eating great food at good price with good portions and no crowd to wait through? Besides, ambiance at a BBQ Pit?!?
