This is the best place in Alaska to get Catfish and Ribs.

I wish I could be posting a better review. I really do. Black owned restaurants are far and few in Anchorage and this is definitely one of the worst. The Chef however is very nice. I saw this restaurant profiled when it first opened up a couple years ago on the news and thats when I got wind of it. I finally went to try it and WOW what a disappointment! I spent 45 dollars for two separate meals and neither came with a drink. Almost 50 dollars and no drink. The shrimp are for sure pre-packaged, ribs are clearly cooked on a grill but heated through in a microwave. I actually thought the macaroni was extremely bland. I didn’t want to give one star but if I did it would be for sympathy. Its not cheap to run a restaurant in Anchorage and you have to get it how you can. #touristtrap

Love the seafood gumbo and seafood anything here! The shrimp was over cooked just slightly last time though. Still not complaining! The sweet tea is INCREDIBLE here! My family & I are from Georgia so I love being able to find good sweet tea that’s not from McDonalds as well. The cornbreads good, catfish is excellent, ribs, Mac and cheese. The home fries are really amazing too! Wendy is a sweetheart! Very down to earth, quick, polite and helpful! Roscoes son is hilarious and always on point! He’s amazing to have as a server. Go eat! Across from the fbi building!

I give no stars but had to put one just to post. I got the pork spareribs, collard greens and Mac cheese for the side. Appetizer I got onion rings. For just 5 pieces of onion rings costing $ 6, wasn’t worth it. To less for its price. I don’t know what the brag is about. Ribs I felt was only heated up. Didn’t taste good at all, collard greens so darn salty. Overall the best thing out of this was the Mac and cheese. I’m definately not coming back. It’s not worth it. We threw it all away. I would not recommend this place at all

Hands down, the best example of Carolina style pulled pork I have ever come across, and I’ve been hitting bbq stands in literally half the nation. Their potato salad is also excellent and will not disappoint. Lastly, the gentleman who took care of us… not sure if he was the owner or pit master put through a rush to go order so I could catch a bus. I want to come back to Anchorage just to try the ribs.

The menu is pretty straight forward. You get what the meals come with and there are no substitutions. If you want something else, you have to pay for it separately! Other than that, it’s good!

Oh. My. Gawwwwwd. This is the real deal guys! I’ve lived here in Alaska for 6 years, from Oklahoma, and I have yet to find a taste of home until now. I’ve tried BBQ from many places in town but nothing compares. I had the catfish dinner and let me tell you that it brought me back to the family diner in Oklahoma I’d go to with my great grandparents that caught and cooked the catfish fresh. The sides were phenomenal, the sauce divine and the peach cobbler left us speechless. Have you ever eaten a meal so good you wanted to shake the cook’s hand? We did. The only thing that compares to the food is the atmosphere and the fantastic service. Windy, our waitress, was such a sweetheart and never left us with an empty cup. She reminded me of when waitressing was an art. She told us stories about how family is the heartbeat of their restaurant, how the recipes are family created and passed down and how even she was moved by them and the history of the place. That’s how good this place is. My husband and I are looking forward to coming back. We are patrons for life. If you want delicious BBQ, a homey atmosphere and excellent service, this is your place. It feels like you came home, sat down and Grandma cooked you a plate. It feels like home.

Some things good some things ok, nothing great or wonderful. Good: corn muffins & Philly Cheesesteak OK: catfish & spareribs Maybe try the gyros. Do not think this is going to be a diamond in the rough or compare to Roscoes in LA, this falls short in both respects. I’m not planing on returning.

Great spot! The peach cobbler was slammin’. Will definitely visit again. Roscoe came out and greeted us in true southern hospitality form.

In Alaska, the BBQ scene is friggin’ DIRE. AJ’s Ribs a Go Go is my favorite. This is my second-favorite BBQ place in Alaska. The rest… are waaaay behind these two. This is an unassuming place on the east side of downtown. They have BBQ and all the classic BBQ sides. Definitely give them a shot.

The smoke on the meats is some of the best flavor I’ve ever had and I’m from TEXAS! Alaskan seafood gumbo, pulled pork and the RIBS! If you’re looking for good food and a laid back vibe… this is IT. I’m getting the fish next time. It looked amazing. Thanks y’all!

First of all, this place is awesome! Me and my girlfriend Cassie drove back from Denali National Park very late around 10:20pm. Cassie found this place on Unilocal and we were so happy cause it’s hard to find a place offer meals at that time. The food is yummy, baby pork rib is delicious. The signature Seafood bowl(I forgot the name) is very Louisiana flavor and unforgettable, if the it came with a little big portion would be even more perfect. Anyway, we enjoyed our dinner there and also enjoy the Karaōke time, lol. Hope I can come back soon.

We went here on a recommendation, I had the beef ribs(6) with Mac and cheese and Cole slaw $ 18 and my friend had the Alaskan seafood gumbo $ 20. The Mac and cheese was awesome the coleslaw was ok and the ribs while they had an amazing flavor just didn’t do it for me, there wasn’t much actual meat on them. My friend had the gumbo and while he said it was delicious I did take note that he had to pick out many of the crab, shrimp and other shell from it while eating. The service was great even met Roscoe himself, I’d probably go back but would definitely try something different. They really do have a southern comfort type of menu.

The owner is an outgoing friendly guy — loved his energy, but his wait staff(his son, I think?) didn’t seem to excited to be there. Kinda made me feel uncomfortable. Being from the south, I was looking for good home cooked southern comfort food. Can’t say it was spot on — it was ok. My beef ribs were not meaty and too fatty and the pulled pork tasted like it sat in water under a heater for several hours. The fried shrimp appetizers were obviously from Costco because I sampled the same thing just the day before at the store! The only thing I really enjoyed were the collard greens and sweet tea. I would like to go back and try the seafood gumbo, but it all seemed over priced.

How the hell can you have the best bowl of gumbo you’ve ever had so far from the south up here in Anchorage Alaska? If Roscoe’s making it… I’m a gumbo superfreak for over 25 years, back home my friends and I will roadtrip hundreds of miles in the PNW to get some gumbo, been to New Orleans on a gumbo mission… best surprise of the whole trip. Going back for the ribs… then the catfish. ;-)

If you’re looking for great BBQ in Anchorage, Yes– I sad great BBQ, Roscoe’s is a must stop. While visiting, my wife and I stumbled upon this hidden gem. Right next to Pizza hut and under the existing Tito Gyro sign, the tasty BBQ can be found, if you drive by, keep circling, you wont be sorry. Sampled the Collard greens and Mac/Cheese, with Catfish while wife had ribs, collard greens and fries. best greens i’ve had in a really long time, catfish had nice crispy coating and Ribs pulled easily apart, exposing a nice smoke ring and leaving a simply delicious sauce coating my fingers. Had the pleasure of meeting Roscoe, the owner/the legend and what a great energizing personality. Was excited to see not only did they offer sweet potato pie, but had to try a slice and was not dissapointed. Next time a sampling of Peach Cobbler will be in my future, and we missed homemade banana pudding by one day, Darn! Definately a must stop every time we visit Anchorage. Don’t miss the opportunity to eat here, and if you should be lucky enough to see Roscoe, make sure to say«hi» and have a nice chat. Roscoe, thank you so much for a memorable dining experience.

You know it when food is well prepared and everything looks/tastes like fresh from the market. Decoration is simple, bathroom is clean, and service is friendly. I am not a fan of bbq anything but I have to say that I didn’t feel overwhelmed with the taste which is good. The pull pork is sweet and a hint of vinegar just the right amount. Very delicate taste. Nothing overpowering. Green been and collard greens were perfectly done as well. Just enough oil to give it good flavor. Not greasy at all. I will go back again next time i visit Anchorage.
