What used to be a favorite has dropped off my list of sushi restaurants to go to in Anchorage. While the service was friendly and attentive it didn’t hide the mediocre quality of the food. For starters the tempura was tiny. On top of that the batter was heavy and soffits and the oil tasted stale. Not a good way to start off the meal. They stopped doing their started salads and only give miso. Too bad, I really liked their salad dressing… My dads salmon sashimi didn’t taste very fresh. It was mushy but the sauce hid it enough that it was edible. The headobap was ok. The only thing going for it was the sauce and presentation. It seemed like there was a lot of sashimi inside the giant bowl but the slices were so thin it was more like an optical illusion. I was not a fan of their lettuce which took up 90% of the bowl. I like how other sushi restaurants use mixed greens instead. My mixed salad sampler was good but those salads come pre made so it’s hard to mess that up. Peter’s is on the pricier side and for the quality, it’s just not as worth it.

Just visited Peter’s sushi yesterday night. The waitress didn’t provide good service at all. She didn’t ask me what I want to drink. She just gave a cup of hot tea, which my friend ordered. There were not many customers at that time, but I had to wait more than 45 min to get my food(I ordered volcano rolls, and my friend ordered Kalbi). She just said your food will come soon without any explanation, but I had to wait extra 10 min to get my food. I wanted to leave the restaurant at that time because I was starving! She didn’t even say sorry. Volcano roll was OK. that’s why I gave them Two Stars:). but Food was too small portion compared to price. For example, if you go to the other Korean restaurant you can get more Kalbi with a lot of side dish price around $ 16-$ 18. Peter’s sushi has a less portion of Kalbi with no side dish and it was $ 28. they just give you Kalbi and bowl of rice! OVERPRICED restaurant. If I want to eat sushi I will go to another sushi restaurant which has better quality service with better Price. I felt like peter’s restaurant just want to get 15% of tips from your food price!

We had seen this restaurant pop up on Unilocal for a while and decided to go there for dinner Friday night. My wife and I got there at around 1900 and the restaurant was fairly busy. We were seated immediately and the server served us water and some edamame. After about 10 minutes our server took our order and we placed an order for the jalapeño bombers and the baked mussels. And then we waited and waited and waited… hungry…a little irritated. After about 40 minutes she brought our appetizers. The appetizers were decent but not somethin that would take 40 minutes to cook. Our main course was the firefighter and the Alaska roll. Both were pretty good… but in the end we were both disappointed since we were still hungry but did not want to risk ordering another roll and then waitin for 40 more minutes. We would rather stick to Yakitori or Sushi & Sushi!!!

I think I know my biggest mistake coming here: I missed the lunch menu by about 1 minute, and got the dinner menu. I thought the dinner menu items looked pretty spendy for a 2:31pm lunch. I ended up going with the Japanese curry as it was one of the more affordable entrees.(and it came with soup, everyone in this state likes soup in the winter, right?) It was alright. But for 16ish dollars, I just felt like it wasn’t worth it. I know, I know, I should’ve gotten sushi. Next time I’ll get there before the lunch cutoff and/or I’ll get some sushi. Service was outstanding.

Food is fine. The reason I give it two stars is because of the good environment. Service is friendly but is too slow. Price is higher than average sushi place. If you like to eat various sushi, don’t go this place. If you want to order only one kind of sushi, this is the place to go.

I was recently contacted by Peter who apologized for our lackluster visit. He took my review seriously and wants me to return to reevaluate their service, and I plan to do that soon…

So we sat down, ordered the child’s food right away. The child’s food arrived and we ordered our dinners. Our kid really enjoyed his dinner! Now we get to our dinners. The first arrived 1:20 minutes after we ordered. It was cold, but my wife was so hungry she ate it anyways. It was limp cold tempura and soggy cold dry sesame chicken. The second dish never arrived so no review on that one. Our waitress was hardly ever there and we had to flag someone down for some water refills. Then, after 2 hours of waiting we paid the bill for what we got and left. I would not recommend this establishment and I will not be eating, or attempting to eat in my case, there again.

Used to be good, not anymore. Fish was chewy and flavorless. Salmon was good but everything else, even the soy beans, was bad.

Great Service but only 4 stars b/c no Uni. Sushi chefs were fast and knowledgable. Get the spider roll, best in Alaska.

Pete’s shares much with my other favorite sushi place in town: a great atmosphere, with sleek calm décor and excellent sushi. As I’ve mentioned before, I am not a sushi connoisseur and probably don’t have the sharpest fish palette. I can tell what’s fresh and what tastes good to me. Few sushi restaurants stand out to me from others. Their rolls are tight without being hard, solid without being chewy, and the varied contents always well-balanced. The rice on their nigiri stays together well, with ever-fresh fish, so tender that I can bite one in half, and it won’t fall apart. They make all my usuals very well(like sake, maguro, unagi), with just the right amount of accoutrement(a touch of wasabi, but not so much that it burns, just a bit of sauce on the unagi, so it’s not drenched but rather supplemented). They don’t have as many special rolls that I like as other places, but they have enough to keep me satisfied. Their lobster roll is particularly tasty. And I love their black cod! A great option. The only other non-sushi item I’ve tried is their Kung Pao chicken, which was very good, another balanced mix of meat, nuts, and veggies. One thing that does bother me about their offerings is their weak wine list, which tends to be a problem with sushi places. But they only have a ten dollar corkage fee, which I learned last time, so I plan to always come with my own bottle. That will make it all much more enjoyable. What keeps this place from achieving a higher rating is, as others have mentioned, their service. I’ve had some okay service there, but most of the time, it’s slow and inattentive(I couple of times, I could have died of thirst before getting a water refill), and there’s one server who always seems put out and disinterested in helping. Last time, after our server bright our food, she literally ignored us the rest of the time. We had to ask the host for to-go boxes and another sever for our check. I don’t need my server to burst with enthusiasm, and I don’t want to be bugged by being checked on constantly, but a couple of visits to check in are required. Her behavior was unacceptable. Thus, when I have a choice, I usually go to my preferred in-town place for an all-around great experience, but I always enjoy the food here.

The food was stellar. I did have one small complaint which was complicated, so I wanted to put it into writing. I went to their website to fill out a customer comment form. The website seems to be broken, because the form would not send. I then called for an email address. I was instead given a ‘website’ address. When I asked them for ‘email’ address she said they didn’t have one. How can a business in this day and age not have an email address? Today I’m one frustrated fan of Pete’s Sushi…

Peter’s sushi spot is the best we have found in anchorage. Every Friday we sit at the bar and the chefs remember us and are fun to watch and talk to.

While on vacation in Anchorage last week, I came here based on the recommendations from Unilocal, but were sadly disappointed by our experience. My group and I had just come from a day trip to Palmer and were eager to try the sushi here. We had looked this place up months ago and even put it in our itinerary. When we walked inside, there wasn’t many people even though it was around 9pm. My table ordered some rolls including the Kenai and Volcano, and twenty minutes later it came out. Now, the sushi wasn’t bad, I fairly enjoyed it… but it was the service that really ruined our experience here. The woman taking our order kept sighing under her breath when we would ask her questions, and when she came to refill our water cups, she slammed the glasses on the table. She kept staring at us from across the restaurant too, as if we had done something to her. Maybe it was the lack of formality of our clothes? Maybe it was because we didn’t order any alcohol? Whatever the case, there was no excuse for this woman to act this way towards her customers. Everyone else treated us very nicely in the restaurant except that woman, but it was terrible enough for me to write a bad review. I will definitely not recommend this restaurant to anyone — the ok sushi does not compensate for the horrible service.

Let’s just be honest here, the fact that taking the time to write this review speaks for itself. Excellent food, I highly recommend the Dragon roll and the Tempura Udon. Great ambiance. Good service, if a little slow. Definitely deserves five stars.

This is the second time I have eaten at Peter’s Sushi Spot in the«new» location. We were seated promptly, and then forgotten just as promptly. We ordered 3 rolls, and beverages. It took 45 mins for the rolls to arrive, one at a time, and they were pretty sadly rolled. Two rolls were just ok, the third, a ceviche roll, was just bland. Had it not been for the hostess checking on us, I am not sure if we would have gotten any food at all. I will not go a third time.

We use to love going to Peter Sushi but I feel their service has declined a lot. I took my mom there and it was empty but the servers were rushing us if there was people waiting. They started clearing our table, gave us our tab and took our ginger and when we asked for a new one cus we were still eating the waiter with short black hair looked at us head to toe. How rude! We are now definitely looking for a new sushi spot.

The most decent quality sushi Anchorage has to offer. Nigiri is above standard for Anchorage’s options. The rice doesn’t melt in your mouth but stays intact. If I feel like splurging, this is my go to. And oh, the house sake is pretty smooth. Kampai!

A friend and I decided to check this place out after much deliberation trying to figure out where to eat on a Sunday night. The ambiance and décor is awesome, and unfortunately that was it. The food/service was a different story. I ordered the Beef Negimaki which is strips of beef wrapped with scallions with a side order of rice. The meat was supposed to be medium rare but most of the pieces came out well done which was a little chewy. The teriyaki sauce was pretty good though. Whilst my experience was so-so, I can’t say the same for my friend. She started off with the Monkey Balls which were quite small. 2 for $ 7. She also ordered the Cobra roll which came out about 15 mins after my order came out. Not sure what took so long but we figured they probably forgot about it. The quality of the work was questionable due to the roll falling apart even by just picking it up. Overall, we’d say we were pretty disappointed at the quality of the food and service. Some of the items on the menu are overpriced compared to their size and other restaurants. I was also almost charged for $ 3 instead of $ 2 for my side order of rice. A dollar isn’t much but a small bowl of rice shouldn’t be $ 3. Had to double check the prices of everything else. We love the upgrades they did to the place, but the quality of the food just doesn’t match the quality of the restaurant itself.
