Excellent trail, but needs some repair. I’ve seen lots of wildlife on the tril over the years. I have trained on this trail since 1986, and had close encounters with moose. The greenbelt is a wildlife highway from the Chugach hills all the way to cook Inlet. I almost ran into a sleeping moose by Vally of the Moon Park and I was chased by a young bull when I went running with the dog durng the fall rut. A grizzly bear was hit by a car in the fall of 2008 by Cal Worthington Ford and it is not uncommon to see black bears. Sometimes homeless camps appear along the section from Lake Otis blvd to Valley of the moon. The Dena’ina name for Chester Creek is Chanshtnu, or «Grass Creek» Not sure who Chester was but the trail was renamed after Nan Elaine«Lanie Fleischer.

Just tried out this trail today on the bike. Entered the trail from UAA Dr area and started heading northwest. There were many small branch off trails but you can usually tell which way to take(keep on heading northwest direction and don’t head towards parking lots or high schools). And it headed to the West Chester Lagoon which then connected to Tony Knowles Coastal trail. I was on that trail on Monday. So I took a right turn heading east along the coast back to downtown Anchorage. This trail is a comfortable ride, the elevation not too steep. The only time I had to push the bike briefly was when I was heading from downtown back to UAA area. No, I’m not a big biker. I only bike/run for beautiful views. Most lakes are still frozen now but I saw some high school sports practices as I pass by their school backyard or ballpark. There are runners and bikers and dog-walkers on the trail. just be careful and alert others that you are passing. I think I will do this one more often because it’s such easy access from UAA.

Chester Creek Trail runs from the edge of downtown toward midtown Anchorage. It runs though population centers and parks along the Chester Creek. It starts at the large West Chester Lagoon and ends at Goose Lake in the UMed district. Goose Lake is a popular destination for locals for swimming and sun-bathing during warm weather. We frequent this trail during summer to enjoy the sights(eg– co-eds in bikinis… LOL.) Although they’re not«officially» part of the Chester Creek Trail, there are trails running around Goose Lake and onto the campus of UAA that are very lovely and make an easy ride. It’s not as wild as Campbell Creek Trail or the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail, but I find this trail very pleasant and frequent it often. More info and details about this trail:
