This place seems to have been closed now. Just leaving a comment for people to know just in case. Saw it still popping up on Unilocal

I do apologize as it is now November and we were there in July 2015 so I believe we had the rainbow roll and the Pink Lady along with complimentary miso soup. The food was delicious,(even though it was closing time). The fish was fresh, the rolls were a nice size and weren’t overpowered by any sauces or spices. The miso flavor was really nice too. A lot has to do with the management and owner. It was late at night, closing time really and we were visiting from California and had been traveling all over Alaska for 3 weeks. This was the end of our trip, we were to fly out at 1AM and we were just driving in from Fairbanks. We wanted to enjoy some delicious sushi after a hard day of panning for gold along the way while driving for 12+ hours and waiting to fly out of Anchorage on a 1AM flight. Being that the sun sets after 11PM, it is hard to come back from your day in the mountains and rivers at 9−10PM and still find any decent sit down restaurants still open. Jimmy’s Sushi staff were actually cleaning and the restaurant was empty. We walked in and they were gracious, accommodating and we had some of the BEST sushi we have had and definitely THEBEST in Anchorage and maybe Alaska as a whole(being we did drive 4200+ miles while we were there for 3 weeks!!). I would definitely tell you to stop in and if you’re lucky like we were, grab a GROUPON on your way! They allowed us to buy the Groupon when we sat down and use it right then! It used to be you had to wait until the next day but I guess that’s changed? Anyway, you can’t go wrong so grab a Groupon and head over to Jimmy’s. We’re from San Diego with some of the best restaurants in the country and I would pit Jimmy’s against many of them! Thank you guys for being so awesome! I have really wanted to do this review because I was so impressed with the manager and I believe owner(the same person) who was just really a cool guy who we stood and talked with for a while about many things as well as sharing photos of sushi plates in Japan or Korea I think? He was showing us things on his computer of how they eat certain foods etc and it was pretty cool. I’ll be honest, it did feel a little weird as they were sweeping the carpets and it wasn’t ‘exciting’ service at closing time but it was good of them for keeping the doors open so we could enjoy. The best part to me was the owner, a fairly young guy with a lot of personality. He was engaging and fun. I really did enjoy the rolls we had as the fish was fresh, the size and quantity was just enough, the price was right(Groupon!) and we filled our belly’s full for our flight home! PLEASEMOVETOSANDIEGO, we’ll be in at least once a week if not more! Im here if you need location advice ;)

Yep call me a fan! They don’t do the AYCE sushi and drinks anymore but don’t let that deter you. The sushi here is a good value for what you get and the quality they serve. I got the sashimi salad($ 15), the sweet and spicy dressing really made it stand out. I also got the King Kong roll($ 15), it was very good! The fish was fresh and delicious. My date’s Yummy Yummy roll was really good too-similar to mine minus the spicy tuna, it was very yummy ;) I can’t wait to go back any try more!

Went here for lunch with friends. The rolls were good, but I didn’t think the spicy tuna was spicy, and the nori was quite chewy. My friends seemed to enjoy their bento boxes and teriyaki chicken. We also had fried brie, it was tempura friend slices with a berry dipping sauce. The dipping sauce made the dish. I’d try this place again.

Sit at the sushi bar for your first visit, Jimmy can help you select a dish. The presentation is excellent and Jimmy serves up warm & personable service– we will return!

What happened to this place? We were seated after waiting a while. One waiter with no skills. We were given a menu. We were left alone for 25 minutes!!! I saw the waiter go back and forth strutting happily… We were in plain view. We walked out and they asked no questions. I will never go back unless they change management!!!

Tried this place on my visit to Anchorage and my friends had hear good things. First, the restaurant itself seemed a little rundown and could use some remodeling. Second, the staff was friendly and you could tell they cared about your dinning experience. Third, The sushi rolls themselves is where it gets bad. We tried 5 different rolls and I only found one to be delicious. The others were just too spicy to enjoy. They do serve chilled sake which is excellent. And for some reason, they gave our table free deep fried oreos. Which isn’t exactly what you’d expect a sushi restaurant to serve, but it was a pleasant surprise. Wouldn’t be my first choice for sushi should I return to Anchorage.

Good service and sushi. A bit expensive, but what in Anchorage isn’t? Salad and soup included and it was nice. Our server went out of his way to accommodate our ten month old baby girl and we really appreciated that. We had the Yum Yum roll and the Smart Sushi meal and it was enough for the two of us.

I came to visit Anchorage Alaska and after being disappointed a bit on the cost of food downtown decided to go somewhere else. The atmosphere is busy, but not crowded. Good food and very good customer service. Great deals on Groupon and options for people that do not like raw fish. If you have never had sushi I would recommend the spider roll, it is tempura soft shell crab.

Great food, found it on Unilocal!Would of been scared by outside appearance but each roll was fantastic! King Kong was my favorite! We are from Colorado and judged this place by just reviews and couldn’t be more satisfied!

I’m on a sushi-reviewing roll ;-) Jimmy’s is so far my least favorite sushi place in town. My lack of interest in really writing about this place is an indicator of what a lackluster experience I had there. I found their nigiri to be kind of mushy. Their rolls tasted fine but nothing great. While I have in general found wine offerings at sushi places lacking, this place’s wine offerings are incredibly limited and overpriced to boot. The best part of my meal was the tempura Brie, but it’s fried cheese. How can that go wrong? I didn’t try any other food aside from the sushi and Brie. The service was also fine, adequate. All in all a blah experience. Thankfully, there are much better places in town for sushi.

Great selection of sushi. I had the sashimi deluxe which came with 15 pieces and I enjoyed the chief selection I received. The server was very genuine and had great table manners with plenty of thank yous to go around.

Holy smokes. What a place! I’ve felt lukewarm about sushi until eating here. It’s all amazing, but be careful about ordering. The menu doesn’t always list every ingredient in the rolls. The last time we went, my husband got a bit of cucumber, which upsets his stomach. We should have asked the waiter to make sure.

Love this place. Quick, personable, good options, and delicious! Salad and miso come gratis, which is hit or miss at sushi places in this town. Prices are all standard, but everything always seems just a little bit fresher than a lot of their competitors’. Maybe it’s all the lovin Jimmy puts into his craft. He’s definitely the highlight of every visit, tho. I usually sit at the sushi bar, and he always asks your name and talks to you as much or little as you like. And he’ll remember your name, which I always appreciate. He will also always recommend the best or freshest items, and not just the most expensive stuff. Definitely one of my fav sushi spots around!

I love this place! I was so excited when I found it because its sooo much closer to my house then Samurai Sushi(which I also love.) I’ve eaten here several times and it is always fresh and delicious! My favorite is the King Kong roll — It’s Lobster, crab and vegetable with spicy tuna, eel on the top, eel sauce, and tataki sauce. It’s soo good! I usually order a spicy california roll with it, which are also really good, or a spicy tuna roll. I’ve had hand rolls there, and tried a couple other types of rolls, haven’t had anything I don’t like, in fact it has all been wonderful. Service is always good here. Fast too! They are polite but not pushy, and very attentive. Interior isn’t amazing, booths are a little dated, and the outside is down right ugly, but the food is consistently good and it is a great nearby sushi joint on the southside of town! Check it out! You won’t be disappointed.

I went in for a quick lunch. I was there at noon. I ate the kiss of fire roll. It was excellent. And it was in the lunch menu. I walked out in less then 30 min. The bill was 10 dollars for the roll and a soda. Great lunch and priced low.

My favorite place to eat out in Anchorage. The miso soup is on point, their salad dressing is addictive. We always order chef’s rolls. We’ve been through most of the list but our favorites are Dreamland and Kiss of Fire. Jimmy’s sauces carry the sushi, using soy sauce would be a crime! Also, the ceviche is to die for. If you love sushi, you’ll love Jimmy’s.

I was a little conflicted, vacillating between three and four stars. Why three? The last time I was there about two years ago, soup and salad came with the rolls as is the tradition of many sushi spots in town. This time, $ 14 bought just the roll. Maybe I remember wrong. Four stars because the seafood and vegetable tempura dinner was outstanding, and a great value at $ 20. It DID come with miso and salad, and a bounty of tempura as well. 3 pieces of shrimp, 3 krab legs, 3 pieces of fish, and a bunch of veggies. The tempura batter was light and perfectly done. The other tip of the hat was the fact that they often run a Groupon, $ 15 for $ 30 worth of food. My final bill? $ 4 with Groupon. Of course, always tip on the full value.
