This ride is a really great to get on in the middle, or at the end, of the day when you want to sit down for a little while and relax in the shade with a cool breeze. It starts in the front of the park at the Main Street Station, circles the entire park stopping in New Orleans Square, Toontown, Tomorrowland and back. I wouldn’t suggest this as a means of getting from one place to another because by the time you walk to the edge of the park to get to a nearby station, wait for one of the trains to come, possibly board because there may or may not be room for you and your party, and finally get to another station that’s near your destination, you could have walked there already. The park is pretty large, but not large enough to where taking the train from one place to another is more convenient than just walking there. There are some cool things to see when you’re on the train. Between Tomorrowland and Main Street there are a couple scenes that show prehistoric life with dinosaurs. They don’t allow flash photography in this section and I’ve seen some people get called out for it so if you’re sensitive then don’t be surprised or offended. Another thing that’s cool to see is the Paint the Night parade. If you get on the train at New Orlean’s Square at the beginning then you can see the parade passing by while you’re waiting for people to get on and off at the Toontown station and on either side of It’s A Small World while you’re passing behind it. When you end at the Main Street Station the parade is just starting there. I’m sure it works out the same for the other parades, but I’ve only seen Paint the Night. Also, there are two different trains: one where the seats face forward and you have to turn to look at everything, and the other where the seats face the side so that while you’re riding everything passes in front of you. #41/100

«With so few reviews, your opinion of Disneyland Railroad could be huge. Start your review today.” – Website prompt for you to help fill the page of a thinly reviewed subject OK, you geniuses running this website’s editorial content. I’ll start my review that I originally posted 1÷20÷14 on what was then the Disneyland Railroad page that has evidently been folded into the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad page. Guess all the DRR pix have been dumped into Big Thunder’s page as well. I don’t want to look. Confident that The Website will never correct this error, here’s my now 11-month-old, previously posted DRR review: * * * Disneyland Railroad is the BART of the Disney empire. Or maybe more like rail transportation that wasn’t bulldozed to turn its route into a Super Autopia that guests could enter and exit at their chosen ramps. Thank goodness Walt was a railfan. If the first moments through the park’s entrance gate don’t require bolting for your favorite ride to reduce wait time, Disneyland Railroad is perfect for delivering you at a leisurely pace from Main Street to the sector of your choice. Riding it throughout the day can go far to preserve those potential dog-tired toesies near closing time. At how many other urban tourist destinations can you inhale the magical combination of locomotive steam and bio-diesel fuel exhaust trapped in sheds and tunnels? Granted, the fuel should actually come from coal or chopped timber, but I did qualify that the setting is urban. The staff is courteous and professional, stations are never too far away, and everybody in line usually gets a seat without having to wait for the next train. Passing through the illuminated façade of Small World at night is a highlight of the journey, and during the holiday season is more spectacular than the original, timeworn climax of the ride: Grand Canyon, Primeval World Diorama. Up in the Bay Area, maybe you parents can comparably placate and entertain the tots by taking them for a streetcar ride through the Twin Peaks Tunnel and Forest Hill Station diorama. Always worked for the young me.

I really like Disneyland’s Railroad. While it may not be the most exciting ride in the park(especially for older kids), it’s still a great way to get back to the entrance after a busy day at the park. The railroad has four stops, and they include: New Orleans, Toontown, Tomorrowland, and Main Street. With trains stopping every 5 – 10 minutes, it doesn’t feel like you ever have to wait very long. When you’ve been waiting in long lines for most of the day, this is a wonderful way to get to any of these stops while at Disneyland. Once on the train, you’ll get a chance to see everything from a different vantage point. The kids love those dinosaurs, and the parents enjoy the chance to rest tired feet. You’ll be able to see which areas are really crowded(and should be avoided) and which are rides have shorter lines. *****Special note: I just found out that the railroad will be temporarily closing on January 10th for extensive remodeling. Since they don’t know just how long this ride will be under construction, it’s a great time to enjoy the ride before it closes!
