The fried shrimp here are very good. We also ordered the ginger fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, and the chow mein. Service was very nice. I would come back again next time we passing by this area.

My grandpa is currently in the ICU at the hospital across the street and all he’s talked about for the last 8 hours is how he desperately wants an order of Hong Kong Chow Mein from his favorite place across Commercial. This is THE best Chinese & best Asian food in town, hands-down. My grandparents live in the San Juan’s so my family has been stopping at Hong Kong Garden on our way to/from the ferry terminal for as long as I can remember… I can’t believe the Unilocal page only rates them at 3 stars!!! That’s outrageous– this place is AMAZING. The food is consistently delicious, they have a big menu with reasonable prices. You get a lot of food! The staff is always friendly and helpful. Every time I come here, the place is hoppin’! Good place to bring the whole family.

We have given this establishment 3 chances to redeem themselves. First time we walked in NOBODY came to the hostess desk to acknowledge us for 5 min. So we left. The second time we had visited we actually sat down and watched a football game but the owner sat at the bar and got drunk and became very inappropriate with the guests. We loved the food so we attempted a final visit. We called to see if they would have our football game playing. This was the conversation I had. «Hello, will you be playing the ____football game?» Her response«I don’t know I’m not in the bar!» My response«can you give me the number to the bar so I can find out?» Her response«I don’t know I’m busy, call back later!» And then before I could say anything else she hung up! We will NEVERGOBACKAGAIN!

The food is consistent, fresh, hot! The owners are wonderful. I’ve been going for over 20 years. They have the best lunch deals in town as well. Huge portions for under $ 7.50

Hong Kong Garden is really tasty Chinese food for a great deal. The restaurant experience was cute, our waitress was extremely friendly and the meal came with the quintessential jasmine tea. We all enjoyed our meat dishes – Mongolian beef was tasty and tender and other lunch specials came with a really nice, fresh pork chow mein with veggies. Great to stop by for a friendly lunch experience, and seriously, you can’t beat the price.

It’s been a while since I’ve been here, a couple years. I will preface this by saying, yes, this is American Chinese Food, yes it has no curb appeal, but it does have pretty good food. We came with a party of 13 for dinner and for one, the service is great. The waitress let us know we were ordering too much food and how many orders of the family combo we should get, and she was right. We started with egg drop or hot and sour soup. The egg drop was the only down fall of the meal, just a basic chicken broth, almost like Campbell’s chicken noodle, with some chunks of ground pork, cellophane noodles, and diced water chestnuts. We also had the bbq pork, it was good but a little dry for my taste. It was served with the usual hot mustard, ketchup, and sesame seeds. For the main dishes we got mongolian beef(stir fried with vegetables in a tangy, sweet, and spicy sauce), almond fried chicken(very crisp with a savory sauce, I also like how it’s whole breasts which are sliced when served), pork fried rice, pork chow mein(better than I thought it would be, thin egg noodles fried with onion, bean sprouts, sliced bbq pork), fried prawns(very crisp large whole prawns, very good and plentiful, we got a side of sweet and sour to go with it), and lastly one order of vegetable chow mein(very fresh assorted vegetables in a thickened broth sauce served on crunchy noodles). All in all the food was very good, huge amounts, we had two large trays of everything that was split one on each side of the table. Now, I’ve had amazing true chinese food in Seattle and Vancouver BC, the real deal Sichuan style, etc. This is not like this at all, this is real deal AMERICANCHINESE, and combined with the great service in giving it 4 stars. Not greasy, very flavorful, great portions, and great variety. Check it out.

Funny how a lot of the low rated reviews were for people who ordered a steak(WTF) and the typical sweet & sour, breaded, gringo crowd. We were here for the Anacortes salmon derby and decided to give this place a try. Ordered the vegetable/chicken and seafood dishes and thought they were fresh and not greasy. Cooked in a lighter oil and not the typical, heavy, Chinese food. Lady serving us was working her butt off and nice too.

We ate here for lunch on 2÷17÷13. It was«okay» but I wouldn’t make a point of stopping here again. One person in party ordered hot and sour soup($ 2), he said it was«okay». We ordered and shared the following: —BBQ pork($ 8:50) — we both enjoyed this. Mustard was spicer than normal & that suited us well :-) — Chicken Chow Mien with pan fried noodles($ 9). Didn’t like the tiny dark chicken, the sprouts didn’t taste fresh(numerous), celery fresh, very few noodles. Overall«okay.» —Cashew Chicken(Aprox $ 10), ingredients good, chicken good, etc BUT sauce much too sweet almost like a sweet and sour sauce. Could have been a winner — eh but it just wasn’t. Tea– strong dark blend Fortune cookies– rose brand(love them). Service– Odd, off? The waitress seemed always out of breath. Her voice was too loud, but she may have hearing loss because several times I observed her have difficulty hearing other staff. She had a joyous spirit(humming and singing to the radio — though she didn’t know the words… it was kinda endearing). Well that’s our experience. I would go again, but wouldn’t go out of my way to do so.

Decent food and our waitress was very helpful. She suggested some cost saves for our group of nine and took care of us very well. Definitely a good experience.

We visited Hong Kong Garden on a Saturday night. Plenty of parking, and the restaurant wasn’t busy at all. Our server was very attentive, and almost *too* fast. I need plenty of time to look over a new menu, and she kept giving me about 30 seconds a time before she was back asking if we were ready to order. We asked for an appetizer to be served prior to our meal, and the appetizer came out with the meal. Extremely quick! I think we were only sitting 5 or 10 minutes after our order was placed, before food started coming out. Chicken Chow Mein Subgum, Beef Fried Rice, Szechuan King’s Chicken, Almond Chicken, and one other chicken dish I can’t recall… Chengtu Chicken, perhaps? The fried rice was very good, the subgum was very tasty, though the sauce was a bit thick, there was no hint of corn starch. The Almond Chicken had a yellow sauce, which was kind of unusual to see in this area, but it was very tasty. The batter was very crispy, albeit a bit heavy. The Szechuan King’s Chicken was very tasty, but same thing, the batter was pretty heavy. The Chengtu Chicken was very tasty. All the vegetables were very fresh, and crispy, not over cooked. I wasn’t impressed by the pot stickers were ordered for an appetizer. The dough was dry, and almost crispy. I got the impression they were frozen, off the shelf dumplings. I’m sure we’ll return if we find ourselves wandering from our regular favorite over in Mount Vernon. Keep in mind, this is standard Americanized, Chinese Food. I’d *much* rather dine in one of the many restaurants in the Seattle International District, but if you’re in Anacortes, and craving Chinese food, Hong Kong Garden is an acceptable substitute for travel.

Looking for a quick Chinese fix, I hit up the HK Garden looking for an entrée and appetizer that would satisfy a couple for dinner. 1. The WORST Sweet & Sour Chicken EVER. When I opened the container, I said, ‘what the hell is this’ and thought I got the wrong meal. Little did I realize that what I was looking at was 2 chicken breasts barely breaded and cut into 1.5″ wide strips, but not actually cut through. The sauce was served on the side in a little box and the rice in the same small box. Splitting the 2 slabs of chicken between us, the chicken basically slid out of the grease coated crust/breading. 2. The SALT, I mean Hot & Sour soup. The flavor and soup materials weren’t terrible, but the salt was so thick, I could only manage 5 spoonfuls before running to the kitchen to make a banana smoothie to prevent a heart attack. With only 2 Chinese joints in town, you’re really left with one other choice. I’ll save that review for the next Chinese run. Quench your thirst my friends. Cheers.

PROS: The woman who served me was nice and it was easy to find a place to sit. There was plenty of parking space. CONS: The dish I had was greasy and not very appealing. The hot and sour soup was below average. I won’t go back.

+++Best pork fried rice around(they use BBQ pork). ++Good Szechuan Chicken, as hot as you want(you tell them what star you want, like in a Thai restaurant). ++Yummy sweet and sour chicken(chicken is like almond chicken style, flat deep-fried paddies). My wife thinks its greasy. +Just ok Mongolian Beef. Overall pretty good, basic Chinese food. Take-out is ready in 15 minutes.
