Great food, portions and service, sorry I waited until closing weekend to try the authentic Israel cuisine

This place by far is the worst and along with it comes a horrible owner. He is a very rude individual and is very self centered. He was very unprofessional. We made an appointment to meet with him and as we got there he never even showed up. I highly recommend you don’t even waste your time with this place.

I think the fact that they were not busy on a Friday evening says a lot about the quality of food. We were the only ones in the restaurant so our waitress was super attentive. The tables and booths need a little more love, felt like an expense that the owners have been putting off for a little too long and is very much overdue. Happy hour specials for beer were not that great of a deal but we of course ordered beer. Started out with falafel with the assorted sauces and was pleased with the flavor. Wish I could skip the salad next time, did not seem fresh nor necessary. The gyros were okay, needed a little more thought, probably were not worth the price. Had baklava for desert and though it did not seem fresh, it sure was rich and melt in your mouth good, best part of the meal by far. I’m glad we tried this restaurant but there are plenty of other places to spend money for better food.

Yum, yum, yum… everything tasted and was presented great and the size of the portions was quite large. Party of 3 shared the Traditional Maza… then separately ordered a Lebneh Falafel in a pita, Beef souvlaki in a pita and a Beef soulvaki wrap. The Maza was enough for dinner, but couldn’t resist the pita sandwiches. Everything was very fresh and the service was great. To finish up the meal we all had a wonderful cup of Turkish coffee, very strong, and shared a piece of Baklava. The only thing that I can say wasn’t that great was the Baklava… not used to it being served warm but it did taste good.

This is a conglomerate review of several times iv been here! Each time the food was awesome. They seem to understaffed sometimes would be my only complaint and that time it took forrrrever to get food but that I’ll chalk up to chance. Iv gotten a huge variety of stuff and each has been superb! Oh a nice Healthy feature is you can get any of the wraps wraps in lettuce instead of any type of bread. Oh and they have this house made hot sauce you have to specially ask for but its sooo yummy so definitely ask. My standard order has become the three sisters in a lettuce wrap with that special hot sauce! Omg so good. If you like fried eggplant definitely try it there.

We are definitely fans of this place. We love this new location and the space is amazing: Modern décor, lounge vibe, a really nice low-key date place. Prices are reasonable. Parking is good, because you have the whole plaza available. I hear they have added some more booths, which is always a great idea. The Falafel is delish. Funny story: when DH and I were first dating I got him to come with me to the old location on Sheridan for his first time trying Falafel. Well, he was underwhelmed with the Falafel but enjoyed his hummus and salad, stating that he would probably get the souvlaki next time or something. The next time we came, I got the Falafel and he got the chicken and we both enjoyed our meals, but he also asked to try a bite of my Falafel again and WHALA! He now actually craves it and asks me to go with him to get some! LOL I’m completely addicted to the Mushroom Hummus. OMG! I don’t know what spice they put on it, but the mushrooms and onions are cooked well done and swimming in their heaven laced juices with a yellow hue(turmeric?) in a pillow of amazing hummus. I admit, I love my veggies and Vegans… this one is for you! I really have to force myself to not order it every time. The Brik and the eggplant salad are also some of our favorites. Salads could use a little more feta, but always fresh. I admit, we don’t eat meat here hardly at all, but that’s not because it doesn’t look delicious. I think we often think of Falafel Bar as one of our favorite places to eat really great vegetarian food when we are thinking about health and waistlines, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have great meat options. As a matter of fact, I might try the Chicken Shawarma next time because the pictures here on Unilocal look so good. And I’ve seen people order these very large kabobs and they look great, but when I go I usually have my heart set on Falafel or Mushroom Hummus. You know how that is.

The few times I’ve eaten here I’ve found my food to be very average. I enjoyed it, and I’m sure I’ll be back again, but its never really anything too special. I mostly like it because we don’t have a lot of options in the area for nice sit down Mediterranean restaurants. I feel like the prices are a bit high for what you get as well. On a side note, Falafel Bar remodeled last year(I think it was last year) and the new location looks great.

I ordered a take out since I was in the area shopping for some Indian groceries. I was craving falafel and tabbouleh. The service is prompt and even though they said 15 minutes, it was ready well before time. The food is really good — falafels were perfectly cooked, pitas toasted and the salad was as fresh as it could be! Definitely want to come here for a sit down meal to get the full experience!

Had great service and great food! Owner came out to talk to us and asked us how was the food. Hummus was to die for… Highly recommended This a very clean and modern place to eat by far. The bar was well stocked too.

I have been to Falafel Bar many times and thoroughly enjoyed my meal each time! They have delicious food, a great menu and friendly service. The food comes out pretty quickly, which is convenient for a lunch break. After trying several different items, I would recommend the following(in no particular order): *Shawarma *The Three Sisters wrap: Hummus, gyro & fried eggplant with tomato and tahini *The Cigars: Spiced ground beef wrapped in phyllo dough, served with herbed tahini *The Tzatziki appetizer with fresh wheat pita *Falafel(duh) *The Spanikopita with a side salad *The Grape Leaves over a bed of Tzatziki The food is always served hot and perfectly spiced. The sauces are homemade. Anything made with phyllo dough is light and flaky. The prices are also very reasonable. I’ve only been to Falafel Bar for lunch, but they have a nice bar and seating area that looks ideal for late night drinks and appetizers. If you are looking to check this place out, but are worried about bringing a picky eater, they have some menu items for those who are feeling less adventurous(chicken fingers, fish fry and a kid’s menu).

The last time I was at this restaurant was years ago at the previous Allen st location. I wasn’t at all impressed, but I was younger and naïve and was willing to think that I may not have got the real story that time. Ohh did I have the real story, in fact my naivety may have led me to think I was actually better than it was way back then. We got hummus and labneh as an appetizer. The pita is nothing special but fine. The hummus was average but as we continued I began to taste a tingly fermented flavor I am not sure it it was the olive oil on top or the hummus but I was not pleased. The labneh was thick and creamy but not tangy like it should be. In fact it lacked any resemblance to a good labneh. The chicken shawarma wrap was bland and did not resemble real Mediterranean food at all. The fact chicken is the only menu option for a shawarma is ridicules. Are server was aloof but on par with the rest of the dining experience. The only slightly redeeming was the appearance of the restaurant. Although our booth had an oddly wide table. Like uncomfortably wide. So if you want a poor Mediterranean food, and service in a new updated restaurant then falafel bar is your place.

Great food overall. Tabouli was ok… I’ve made it tons before and mine is way better! 3.5÷5. Lover had the open beef souvlaki: 4⁄5. The veggies were nice and fresh. The reason for the visit: Israeli falafel pita pocket: the veggies were fresh and the falafels were really good! And I know falafel… So that should say a lot! 4.25÷5. Baklava: we make the very similar Goulash at home … So we know how a good baklava/goulash should taste like. I give this a 4⁄5. I cannot wait to go back!!!

I came here with a group of friends, about 13 of us on Sunday afternoon. The place is smaller than what I expected, and it was hard to squeeze 13 people in one seating. We got seated right away tho, however, I don’t think they’re used to with a group of people who would like to have separate checks. It was our first time come to this place. We waited for the food for about 45 minutes, and we were hungry. No one’s happy when feeling hungry, especially when I noticed a few people that came after us were already done eating. I ordered gyro sandwich with pita wrap. It came with lettuce, feta cheese, cucumber, and tomato, mixed with vinaigrette-like dressing. The gyro tasted good with the salad. My husband ordered Steak Souvlaki Plate, and he didn’t like the steak. So he ended up ate my sandwich and I ate the steak. The steak was decent, tasted good together with the greek salad and fries. Unfortunately my husband ordered the steak welldone so the meat was a little tough. Maybe if it was medium would taste better. I also ordered baba ganoush for an appetizer which tasted ok. The service was nice, kudos to the waitresses who worked hard taking care of 13 individuals who ordered 13 different things. The food was pricey, not sure if I want to come back. Maybe someday to give this place a second chance. We will see.

Disappointing, on all three trials to this place. I hate to give bad reviews but this place needs to step up its game. I am an avid fan of Mediterranean food and have been in several such Mediterranean joints around the country, especially great places around Dearborn, MI(where the largest Middle Eastern population outside the middle east resides). Recently we went to this place with a group of friends, for appetizers, got hummus and babaganoush along with pita bread, which was okay. Generic pita, somewhat bland hummus. For main course, I ordered chicken shwarma sandwich, I regret this. Worst shwarma I have ever had. Presentation is decent, but the wrap was terrible. The wrap was terrible, generic supermarket wholesale quality taste and consistency. Chicken tasted okay but it the sandwich was very cold. My friend who ordered a lamb wrap had the same issue. One of my colleagues ordered a falafel salad, which did not have falafel. Really !!! 2 minutes into the dinner, the waitress came with a plate of falafels on the side. Yes, falafels balls on the side. Salad was mediocre too. The waitress was very kind and her service was excellent, which made this experience bearable. After giving 3 tries to this place, I definitely put this restaurant in my ‘black list’. Thank you kind waitress for your service.

Bleh… Went in with high hopes:(restaurant was very dimly lit. That should’ve helped but sadly didn’t. The service was excellent but all comes down to the food. The shawarma was in a very thick wrap(whole wheat). There was barely any chicken inside it. What was there had a nice taste. The veggies esp tomatoes had too much juice. The shawarma wasn’t wrapped properly. More like pita wrap with an extra turn. It was disappointing experience I won’t repeat.

I’ve been meaning to go to this place for years but never had the chance. My work used to cater from here all the time but I’d never been to the actual restaurant. Finally went today with a friend who recently arrived in the country as an international student so I wanted to take her somewhere pretty unique and food she has never had before. We went for a late lunch in the middle of the day and the place was still a little busy, always a good sign! I wanted to go with something simple so I got the falafel hummus sandwich and my friend got the shawarma sandwich. The falafel was pretty standard and the hummus pretty nice, quite tasty as an overall sandwich. The sandwich alone was enough for two meals for me so it was pretty cheap for what you got. My friend also said hers was very delicious! This is a pretty decent place for falafel I’d say! I’d love to come back and try the gyro.

On a whim, my sister and I decided to be adventurous with our dinner selection and try the Falafel Bar. This will be a short review because I’m not sure I can gracefully describe how we both felt not less than 3 hours after consuming the food. I don’t know if it was food poisoning or not. Let’s just say that we both agree«No.More.Falafel.Bar.Ever.» The mixed reviews on Unilocal probably should have assisted in our decision but we gave it a shot anyway. Never again.

During a visit home, my parents approached me on a Saturday afternoon and said«Let’s meet up for dinner tonight and have a family meeting to talk about retirement plans». I said«ok»…grudingly. I was ok with the family meeting part. Afterall, I hopped a plane to come into town to help them plan to start their«golden years». I hestitated though because having dinner on the town with my parents means walking into a box… symbolism of being in a situation with limited options. As the conversation of where to meet began, I started to feel a headache coming on that worsened as they started throwing out suggestions. Red Lobster? IHOP? Bob Evans? WHAT? Then my brother had the audacity to suggest… Carabba’s. HUH? It’s official, I’m an only child. Buffalo(the whole state of New York, really) is a hub of local restaurants, many of them family owned and operated, creating yummy goodness for decades. Chain places obviously exist but they’re looked down upon. People go there if they can’t score a reservation at their top choices. The chain restaurants serve as punishment for procrastination, kinda like detention. I don’t want to go to detention! Ultimately, we settled on Falafel Bar, which for some reason, my dad seems to like. Falafel Bar is a Mediterranean/Middle Eastern restaurant that formerly had several locations in the city. Due to some downsizing, they relocated to a new venue in the ‘burbs, a space that is part of a shopping plaza. The outside is non-descript. Once you walk inside, the restaurant definitely doesn’t read as Mediterranean/Middle Eastern. It reads more as a lounge or wine bar given the dim lighting, sleek décor and intimate set up. Very interesting… why does my dad, a very conservative, religious man, like this place? Daddy, you creepin’? Forget it, I don’t want to know! The hostess had no personality and was not friendly. That’s a pretty crappy first impression for customers to receive. Our waitress was fantastic though. Really friendly, accomodating and patient. We started off ordering an appetizer trio of Hummus, Tabouli and Baba Ganoush. The tabouli was fresh and vibrant. The flavors really wake up your palate, which is great for a starter dish. The hummus had decent flavor but the consistency was wrong. It was much too runny, which throws things off. The baba ganoush was well prepared and had balanced flavors. I wanted the Chicken Shawarma Sandwich but was given the Shawarma platter instead, which is basically chicken shawarma, served with a salad, sauce and fries. The chicken was overdone and overseasoned. The aftertaste of the chicken was intense and not in a good way. The salad seemed old and the lettuce in particular was wilted. The fries were definitely the star, especially as it seems to me Mediterranean/Middle Eastern places make some of the best ones. These fries were prefectly prepared, which made for a great balance of crispiness, crunch and tenderness. The seasoning was subtle as the fries proved to be the one redeeming quality. I did try my dad’s Sheesh Kabob dish and my mom’s Beef Kufta. My dad’s lamb sheesh kabob had ok flavors but was overdone. Sad because the portion sizes of those kabobs were pretty big. My mom’s beef kufta(ground meat that is prepared similiarly to meatloaf) was delicious. It was moist, juicy, well seasoned and filling. Overall, I’d give this place a 2.5, which I’ll round up to a 3. Nothing really wowed me but I did like the fries and beef kufta a lot. The tabouli and baba ganoush were also good. Unfortunately, my chicken shawarma disappointed. On the bright side, the family meeting went well. I’ve also decided to acknowledge my brother again provided he never suggests a chain restaurant as an option for family dinners!
