At first glance through Gallery 319’s front windows, this place appeared to be a middle-of-the-road frame shop, with a some local art thrown in. However, with the nearby Octagon House temporarily closed, I needed my Iowa artist fix and decided to wander in. There’s a lot to look at within this relatively small space. As with any art selection, there was a lot that quickly lost my interest. However, some of the wooden box and hand-crafted pen selection was really impressive and cheap. And it easily fit in my suitcase for the journey home. I also enjoyed talking with the owner and finding out about some local art events that I would have loved to attend if I was in town. I’m sure I’ll be back the next time I’m in Ames and want to take a local art walk.
