Too expensive. Often times the beans are part frozen or cold. Serving sizes are inconsistent, and sometimes I feel ripped off at the meager portion sizes(almost as much $ chipotle with less than half the food often). Workers sometimes seem like they don’t care, that you’re inconveniencing them by ordering a burrito(not all, some of them still give good customer service even if they’re busy). But worst part: delivery takes 3 hours. Ridiculous. 1 star — will only go there if I get dragged there by friends.

Everyone ranted and raved about Fighting Burrito, but I was less than impressed. I’m a Chipotle fan, so the size of the burrito I got here didn’t even begin to compare. They put tiny portions into the burritos here. Mine leaked a bunch of juices down my arms. Taste was decent, but in the future, I’ll just drive the extra distance for Chipotle.

I liked the food the first few times I ordered. Last time I ordered they didn’t have the taco shells so they offered the nachos… I wanted tacos, it was Tuesday after all. So I asked if I could get a quesodilla instead which is a dollar cheaper… they wanted to charge me 5 dollars extra! Pardon my texting but that’s fucked up. I won’t be ordering from them again.

Short Version: It’s not the best eat-in restaurant, and it’s a bit pricy for what you get, but the Fighting Burrito is a decent place to eat. They even offer delivery. I would eat here again, but I wasn’t insanely impressed by my experience. Long Version: Despite living in Ames in 5 years, I hadn’t had the Fighting Burrito until recently. I remember when it was actually located on Lincoln, and I think it was called the«Flying Burrito» even. I still love the aviation theme, and I honestly was hoping that the interior would be aviation-themed as well. I was a bit disappointed in that regard. It’s a pretty bland interior, but they do have a bathroom available for customer use. There are a couple tables with stools outside, and there are a couple booths and tables inside for eating as well. The place doesn’t look very decorated, but it does have the functional aspect of being a place you could eat. The restaurant area looks clean, and it would be somewhere that you eat, but it’s really not a «destination eatery» type of interior.(I was really, really hoping for a neat aviation theme) I’ve never been here, and luckily there weren’t people behind me. They have all of their menu available to look at online, and it’s obvious that their staff is trained for efficiency. They aren’t rude, but they definitely are trained to get people through the line as quickly as possible. The burritos are large-ish. I was a bit surprised that the single burrito ran about $ 7. I suppose if you stuffed it full of things, it might be worth the cost, but as I just had chicken, black olives, and some great northern beans, it seems like I could definitely make this much more cheaply at home. Nutrition information is also available online. The burrito did taste good, though. It tasted fresh, and it was surprisingly still too hot to eat when I finished the 10 minute drive to my destination. Whatever they package it in definitely does the job. It was a fulfilling burrito, but I did find that there was a lot of «overlap» of the tortilla in about half of the burrito that meant biting through 6 layers of tortilla which was a bit annoying. It tasted good, though, and it’s not a place I would avoid eating now in the future. Next time I might try the Bare Burrito instead, though. The Fighting Burrito is now located on Welch, though, which means you may have to fuss to park. I had to park two blocks away and pay a parking meter in order to visit the restaurant and go eat.

I don’t understand the appeal of this place at all. The food is just terrible. Do yourself a favor and go to Mr. Burrito.

With numerous burrito options to choose in Ames, Fighting Burrito is my favorite. The ingredients always seem so much fresher than the other choices. I also love the fact I can get a burrito salad,(same thing as burrito bowl but sitting on a bed of romaine.) The fact that they also deliver is great!

Really good food and consistently friendly service. Parking is on street or they have a lot in back and there’s a small public lot up the street. Figure about $ 10 a person but definitely worth it. Some other reviews mention the burritos coming out small but if you get things besides meat and cheese they’re not. Also great if you like Mexican food without a lot of spice to it.

So Goddamn tired of you guys screwing up every delivery order! If it isn’t a 90 minute wait for delivery when you claim«60 minute estimated delivery time» it’s the chips OR queso/salsa. Never the chips AND salsa I PAY for, honestly I would expect better out of an unorganized group of high school dropouts-not a business run by a joke of a city council member. Such a racket, only successful because of all the drunken college students they diddle for over-priced rice and beans in a tortilla. A disgraceful«local» business.

Open late for college student and has so many choices!(What more could you ask for) and it’s fast! Also it’s one of the only places I know where you can get veggies added for no additional charge! My favorite is the bowl with chicken veggies double rice pico peach salsa and cilantro lime sour cream! Oh and extra cilantro and a squeeze of lime! Convenient and delicious! And something different from your average chain like chipotle or Pancheros

First, the burrito i ended up with was good… but short on meat and overall size for the price… HOWEVER, the young lady who manned the counter on Sunday night talked so fast and put my burrito together so quickly that she made at least two errors in what she put in it… then didn’t start over but simply used her gloved hand to scoop out the items that I pointed out were wrong, rather than starting over. Her rudely hurried approach did not allow me to consider my choices and I felt rushed and dissatisfied. This made the process an unpleasant experience. The older gentleman behind me in line had to ask her to slow down her speech just so he could understand her questions. IF I ever go back and she’s there, I will definitely request that some other employee help me. I shouldn’t have to spend my time training or advising the employees on how to treat a customer. The burrito I ended up with cost more and was smaller than one I would have gotten at Pancheros across town, and was decidedly not as good as the ones I get in Marshalltown in the authentic Mexican restaurants located there. The choice of ingredients were quite extensive, and all of good quality. If you got used to the«treatment» I received at the counter, you’d probably enjoy the experience, but I seriously doubt that I’ll give it another chance.

The service was great, burrito was tasty, and the menu, when you factor in all the combinations, was extensive. I like the fact they deliver via car, long board, or bike. My only knock against them is their portion size. I’m not trying to sound like a piggy, but for $ 7, the burrito could have been larger. Upon opening the foil wrapping, it’s about ½ the size of a Chipotle burrito.

The food sucks. It’s pretty bland and the quality is low low low. It gets fairly busy in there because of the location and many of the customers are young adults from the middle of nowhere unaccustomed to various foods. I’ve only been there once and that was tonight because proceeds were going to Youth & Shelter Services. The food was absolutely boring. I don’t see how anyone says this place is better than Chipotle. The only thing Fighting Burrito has on Chipotle are more options but with it being at such lower standard there really is no one upmanship. I’m never going back here. The employees were fairly nice but the food really was sub par. They need to raise their standards on the food. It wasn’t piping hot and it lacked seasoning. And you can tell they keep their food on the line for too long. Chipotle keeps fresh food on hand. They may not have five million salsa options but at least the food is always high quality and tastes great. If Chipotle moved to Campustown, Fighting Burrito would go out of business.

Awesome and fresh food! Quick too. The burritos are very filling. They have a great variety of meats and now also have other selections other than just the burritos, although the only entrees I have had is then burritos and am always satisfied

Good food at a nice price, doesn’t try to portray itself as super authentic or pretentious. Better quality than chipotle at a better price.

I’d say 3.5 stars really, This is half the size of Chipotle’s burritos in the same sized tortilla, and that results in a huge mound of tortilla wrap just all folded on itself and it gets soggy with salsa, yuck. Service was quick, and the place was busy. I liked the chicken, though felt that only half of my burrito had any of it, the cheese was tasteless, the salsa overpowered everything. It was a quick and tasty bite before a show in ISU, but i’ll go back to wearing my Chipotle hat tomorrow!

Located on Welch Ave in the heart of CampusTown, I’m assuming this place gets a considerable amount of business from over-saturated patrons of the bars in the immediate vicinity, which usually leads to lax quality and poor service, but Fighting Burrito manages to keep food-quality standards(and flavor levels) high for all customers – sober or sauced. My initial impression was that it was going to be just like any other burrito place(Chipotle, Rancheros, etc.) and nothing particularly memorable. The décor is pretty similar to its competitors, and there’s still that hurry-up make-up-your-mind-and-don’t-you-dare-think-about-hesitating pressure that’s also on par with most of the others. While I think the hurry-up effort is a wise strategy to keep the line moving and the drunks right back out the door to meander back into the streets to be loud elsewhere, I’ve also been in at times where I was the sole customer and was still rushed through the process. That said, let’s talk burritos. There’s a list of creatively-named burritos whose innards have already been decided, which is a great option for those who are either indecisive or unfamiliar. While they’re certainly not a poor choice, I would recommend building your own burrito(study the board first to know exactly what you want or risk becoming flustered and victim to the fast-paced, high-pressure ordering gauntlet). The chicken, so far, has been my favorite. I’d also highly recommend including queso(flavorful, melted cheese), sautéed peppers, and cilantro in your list of other burrito-packing choices. While I wish there were some limited-run, homemade ingredient options(like Bandit Burrito often does), the freshness, variety, and quality at Fighting B’s is still satisfying and worth stopping in for.

They are open pretty much all the time(seriously) and that it great. The entire staff has always been super nice to me. The food is always good. They have a really wide range of what you can get on a burrito, quesadilla, or whatever it is you decide you want. Good chips. Good salsa. I’ve always felt like their prices should be about $ 1 cheaper(a chicken burrito is about $ 7 with tax), but it is worth it(and hugely filling).

It took awhile for this place to grow on me. I’d had it a couple times in the past but never really sought it out. Over time I’ve come to appreciate it, een crave it. Sure, I still call it by its old name, more out of habit than from any attachment to its previous moniker. The food here is tasty — really tasty. You can order online. They deliver. Sounds like a win-win to me. P. S. The giant Rice Krispie bars are amazing!
