Ottawa Canada to LA stopped here because the parking lot was full. Mexican family restaurant. Fantastic Ceviche unique or at the very least first time for a Mexican Ceviche for me. Elizabeth had the fatitas and I had the enchiladas. Plates were not enormous as expected but were more than adequate.

They have Birria, great for a hangover which was the case today. Tortillas were hand made.

On our drive across country My husband I stopped In this place because we thought it was the other El Tejavan and did not realize there were two. The food was terrible! it seemed as though everything had been frozen then warmed up and brought out, the corn tortillas from the chicken tacos looked like they had even been freezer burned and were gooey in the middle. The rice and beans were clearly from a can or pre made package. Don’t make the same mistake we did and be sure to double check the address when looking at reviews.

Worst restaurant I have ever been to in my life! Horrific, ghetto, very barrio and not worth the cost. They took the worst of Mexico and packed it into one place; dirty, poor, bad food, machismo, the subjugation and objectification of women… Just the worst experience of my life!

To be fair I get carne asada all the time, and its pretty good. Someone posted«apparently their tortillas are homemade», well THEYARE, they are the best you can get in a restaurant. The really best ones are served at my house…

It was simply terrible. My husband ordered chili relleno’s which didn’t even look appetizing. I ordered what the waitress recommended I believe it was a new chicken dish according to the menu. I asked for vodka and tonic and received a vodka and soda water. They didn’t seem to think there was a difference. From the great reviews left by some… I am shocked that so many people from Texas, that anyone from Texas, would think this was even mediocre.

Worst service ever! After a 10 minute wait for our waitress, Ordered 1.99 happy hour margarita that was served in an ice cream glass, which means it had 3 sips in it. Then ordered guacamole appetizer for 5.99 that was bought from wal mart and squeezed out of the bag, I know for sure because I buy that dip, and that whole stinkin bag isn’t even 6 bucks. Then ordered chicken fajitas for 13.99 and it had 5 slices of meat!!! oh and the waitress only brought me one corn tortilla with the fajitas! Well no joke one burrito is all I’m making with my 5 strips of chicken! And not to forget the table beside us waked on their ticket because service and food was so awful! But it was amazing how quick that waitress was at the table after they walked out the door!

Every time I’m in Amarillo a stop here is a must just for their barbacoa plate(not on the menu $ 10.99) service could be better, the young waitresses need training in customer service, today I got really bad service from Nena she refused to let me order from the lunch menu because It was 30 minutes before it stars, my coffe and food was cold today and Nena didn’t come back to ask if I needed something else, I had to ask for more coffee to another waitress who called her, this is a lil hole in the wall restaurant with good home made mexican food at fair prices but don’t expect to be treated like royalty although I’ve had better service before, my visit was just before lunch and I was the only one there but by lunch time they where full. When I paid the cashier and she asked how everything was I told her I had better food and service before she responded the barbecue plate gets cold right away and it happens to her too, they obviously could use customer service training! I give them two stars just because«I’ve had better in the past». Hope this review makes the owners understand how important it is to train their employees in customer service and the public to know what to expect if you eat there and hope next time I’m in Amarillo Texas things will go to beter

Saw the positive reviews for the other location and stopped by here because it was closer on my route through town. It does look like a shack but it’s great food. I’m not sure what the other reviewers are complaining about food-wise. The marinated beef tacos are great and a friend announced the Barbacoa was the best he’d ever had. There is a reason the parking lot was full, good Mexican food at a reasonable price. Great spot for lunch if your passing through.

I am from San Diego, right across the border from mexico, so I have definitely had Mexican food before. The salsa here was definitely not fresh. tasted like canned. Flies everywhere. I ordered the carne asada and it just did NOT taste right. I told the waitress I didn’t like it and could I get something else? She refused, saying«Thats the way we make it here». When a customer is unhappy and you simply refuse to help fix the problem… thats not okay! Someone else said this is «very authentic» mexican food. far from it!

Don’t let the outside scare you away because the food here is great. It was crowded at 2pm and I had to park on the sidewalk next door. I observed the other diners and all seemed to be enjoying their meals as much as I did. I ordered their Carne Asada which came with grilled veggies and the basic frijoles & rice, hand made quacamole, hot sauce & chips. I added corn tortillas which were soft, large and fantastically homemade. The frijoles were tasty & creamy and not out of a can as with some restaurants. The hotsauce is also homemade and had a great spicy taste without being overpowering. The steaks were large and tender. Overall, Great food. I’ll be back next time I visit in Amarillo.(Much better than Ruby Tequilla ever thought of being.)

Very authenic Mexican Food. I’m from El Paso, TX and expected Texmex, far from it. I ordered tacos one beef, pork and chicken. The corn tortialls looked home made and fresh. The pork taco was my favorite seasoned very well. I enjoyed the beef as well. The beef was not shreded but were beef chunks the salsa was very good. It came with rice and beans. I strongly suggest you pay El Tejavan a visit.

Really good marinated beef tacos. Best guacamole in town– chunky with lots of cilantro.
