This is a nice little cheese and wine shop. Don’t come here expecting locally-produced cheese — they get their cheeses shipped in just like any other store, but they do have a very nice variety, including some unusual flavors. They do carry local wines, featuring quirky one such as dandelion wine(decent, but a little sweet). Like other stores in this tourist town, they also offer a selection of gifts, including some chocolate covered peanuts labeled«Cowboy Nuts». Try explaining that to you little ones!

This little shop on the right just after turning into the Amana colonies is simply wonderful. They carry a 12 year cheddar that I’ve only heard of in myths and it’s to die for — truly a steal for $ 16.99 a pound — farms I’ve checked sell it for more than $ 20/pound! They carry a number of other cheeses including a good cheddar bleu mixtures, plenty of snacking varieties that aren’t normally carried in stores and many of the standards like swiss, jack and mozarrella. The wine selection here is very nice and similiar to most of the wineries in the town. Many varieties that you’ve never seen or heard of including dandelion and rhubarb. Most of the wines are sweeter and better for dessert or with friends when you want to introduce people to something out of the ordinary. The selection is pretty vast and they’ve won plenty of awards for the wine they sell. The best part is you can get small bottles pretty inexpensively(less than $ 7) and sample of number of them. In addition to the cheese and wine, they’ve got plenty of trinkets for purchase — everything from wine racks to vintage looking signs and plenty in between. Good spot to look for gifts for parents who don’t really need anything! Overall, Heritage is worth the drive for the cheese alone, but the wine and gifts make it a great place to stop anytime you’re up in the Amana colonies!
