Delicious, simple food for a decent price once you factor in the cost of ingredients. Our Lobster Salad platter was composed of large chunks of shellfish, lightly dressed shellfish mixed with diced celery. The puffer fish were delicious fried white fish covered in a mild batter. The fish stood out and it wasn’t too oily. Not sure I would get it again, but I wasn’t disappointed.

We had driven by on the way toward Montauk and didn’t get to eat here till we were leaving. Plus I was on a lobster roll hunt for the best one in this area. We had had other ones during our stay and we were not impressed. This was a late lunch and had a nice crowd, not busy, and no wait. For starters, we shared the New England clam chowder. Good flavor but would’ve liked more clam meat in the chowder. We decided on the cold lobster salad roll. It was okay. I don’t know, but is this the style for lobster roll — shredded meat and some chunks of lobster? I prefer whole morsels of lobster meat. And if you are a fan of the series The Affair, you can pick up some souvenirs of the show, tshirts, cap, etc…

If you are expecting canned chowder, frozen onion rings and frozen crinkle fries like you got in school, you won’t be disappointed. Salad was above par, puffer bites(tiny tails still attached) were a treat. Service gets a C+.

Great place to stop for a lobster roll. The seasonal price is expensive, but if you’re out here infrequently it’s totally worth it. Lobster roll is delicious. Fries are crinkle cut and not really all that spectacular but the vibe is great.

One of the best lobster rolls I’ve ever had, plain and simple. The roll was toasted and buttered, and there was a generous amount of lobster inside. The consistency was perfect and the ratio of lobster to the rest of the ingredients was spot on. This is the classic lobster roll and how it should always be done. What a treat to be so close to a legendary establishment like this. The ambience is summery and patriotic, with a lovely outdoor area for lunch. Love how it sits alone on a rather desolate stretch of Montauk Hwy like a roadside stand, very Americana. This is a must-do for anyone in the Hamptons this summer.

It takes fooooooreeeeeeeveeeeeeer to get the order. You call the waitress three times, she does not even give you the forks and napkins. The lobster ale is merely a dark beer with a good name on it. The lobster roll very very small, unlike what is in the pictures. I don’t know why there are so many people been the place, because some of the celebrities been here does not mean this is a good place at all.

Drove to Montauk yesterday looking for a decently priced place with my family. Did not find that, because its the Hamptons, but this place was not worth the price. We sat outside in 70° weather. At first it was warm but it then started to get freezing. Instead of putting their heat lamps up they offered people to buy 30 $ sweaters for their kids. Not until people were leaving were they finally putting up the lamps. We tried the Lobster Ale, which had to be the worst tasting beer we’ve had. It was sour and bitter we couldn’t finish it. For appetizers we had the fried oysters and clams on the half shell. Whoever their shucker is did an amazing job. The fried oysters were also very good. For dinner we had the Hot Lobster Roll, Fish Nachos and some Fried Clams. The Lobster roll could have been more for 30 $. It was one small toasts hotdog bun, a small ramekin of coleslaw, a small bowl of cut up lobster(which looked like they just gave me a big claw) and then 2 $ extra for fries. Overpriced for that amount. The fish nachos were basic cheese and basic chips. Not a lot of fish… shredded pieces of lobster and shrimp. For dessert we got the Andrea’s Obsession Cake and a Coconut cupcake. They were both extremely dry. The cake seemed like it was sitting out and they just plopped fresh whipped cream on top. The cupcake was just a dry vanilla cake base with a strange tasting«coconut» icing. Honestly, I wouldn’t be so pissed if my whole family didn’t get sick the next day after the drive home. Something we last ate made us sick all night and in the morning. Definitely not worth the money, go to a nicer restaurant don’t let the fame fool you. We will not be going back after getting sick.

Hello. LOBSTERROLL. Time for(LUNCH)!! I love coming to ‘THELOBSTERROLL. Been coming here since I can remember. place has always been here! is sort of the GATEWAY to Eden let you know that you have arrived in God’s Paradise! Sometimes I choose to sit outside sometimes inside I always engineer my visit so I do not have to wait. I really don’t like waiting a long time kind of … (upsets the upcoming) dining experience. I usually always get the lobster roll it is the classic and the name of the place . I like the cold lobster roll very much for the generous sweet chunks of lobster but now and then I do get the hot meal which features an embarrassingly large amount of lobster. And of course New England clam chowder. Best to pair with a Budweiser beer.(bottle) As it is cold, light, and crisp. (I do so in honor of my friend John) I especially love the Homestyle flavor of the Lobster House with its Whimsical puppets, shark heads, colorful awnings… and THE Beautiful American flag so high above Amagansett. Now that my job(assignment) has once again been relocated to Montauk . I look forward to many wonderful afternoons at my favorite lunch spot. Keeping folks safe! (Despite Themselves). Takes one to know one… Jim D.

Went here during my honeymoon. The décor is somewhere between a diner and an ocean front seafood shack. Very casual and comfy. Got the clams on the half shell and a half order of the puffers out of curiosity. Both tasted great. Also got the obligatory hot lobster roll and the hubby got the kale salad. Everything was very fresh. The mixed drinks are very pricey, but very strong. We managed to get in before the wait. When leaving there were about a dozen ppl waiting to get it. So, well worth it and it has a rep.

Iconic and Yum are the first words that come to mind! Never miss a chance to visit when in the hamptons. Luckily for us we choose opening day this year — May 6. Lobster roll cold or hot is a must with fries, of course. Manhattan clam chowder is wonderful, as are the fried oysters.(if you are lucky you may find a pearl like we did) My almost 3 year old loves it too! Perfect lobster shack atmosphere and a lovely staff to boot. You must save room for dessert, or not but have it anyway. Homemade pies are swoonable — strawberry rhubarb is my fave! Go!

This place is so awesome. The food is great, but not only that — we were star struck just being there because of «The Affair». We went two days in a row and were one of the first few to open the 2016 season with them. I love this place!!! One big side note: they over-encourage you to make a cash tip — so much so that they write on the line where you would usually leave the tip — telling you to leave a cash tip. Something you should know beforehand bc not everyone has cash on them all the time.

Summer hasn’t officially begun until I bite into one of Lunch’s eponymous piles of invertebrate deliciousness. It’s right off Montauk Highway, midway between Amagansett town and the end. Show up early or you’ll have a wait, and a scary situation in the parking lot. People come here in DROVES, and for good reason — the service is friendly, the lobster fresh, and the seating sunny. It’s my favorite place to stop before a day at Ditch, or after a morning there, or really whenever. Lifehack: go for the lobster platter. It’s two big scoops of the lobster salad, enough for two people, and then you’ll have room for sides like sweet potato fries(don’t skip the sweet potato fries) and chowder. You want to try more than just one thing here, as everything is super solid. If you’re feeling extra festive, the bloody mary is also excellent, although I usually go with a diet coke or iced tea to wash down my seafoody goodness. I’m gonna go get my jorts out of storage now…

Lunch /Lobster Roll in Amagansett is a local favorite. Atmosphere is exactly what you would want from a summer /side of the road fish place. Seafood chowder is awesome, lobster rolls and platters — the best. I grew up on Long Island — have been coming here since I could remember. Never disappoints. Also be prepared for some celeb sightings…

Best of the best! There’s a reason this spot is so famous and always crowded! Market price for lobster is what makes their lobster rolls so pricey but WORTHIT. I stop here at least twice every year when I come to Montauk. Almost $ 60 in lobster rolls later, never regret it! Must-try.

I really enjoyed my visit here… the retro, kitsch look. The celebrity links. The Affair!?! It was very busy when we arrived but we managed to get the last booth before a rush of more people arrived. Woo hoo. Service was friendly and very prompt. It’d want to be I guess, with the numbers they get here, they’d be mad not to capitalise on it. We ordered one hot lobster roll and the classic cold lobster roll. Both were amazing, really good and worth stopping off here. I ordered a margarita with salt, which was also good. Worth a look.

Excellent. Came here on 9÷26÷15 and was still packed even in the off season! I’ve gone out and spent many days in Montauk and somehow managed to never make it here until now. Well worth it! Wait list moves quickly but be sure to listen to your name or else they move on and you’ll be at the bottom of the list. I had a bloody mary to start which was made wonderfully. I had the lobster bisque. WOW.3 days later I’m still wishing I had more!!! Must try. I then had the crab cakes for my entrée which were also delicious. I had tried a few bites of the hot lobster roll that someone else at my table ordered and it was also awesome!!! Friendly wait staff, no frills décor, lives up to the hype all around. Can’t wait to go back next season.

I won’t lie, we only stopped here because we saw this restaurant on The Affair. My fiancé and I both got a lobster roll(not the hot one). They were delicious! We arrived at 11:20 on a Sunday and waited 10 minutes until opening with about 20 other people. Service is QUICK. We had the 2 lobster rolls and a beer each and we walked out at 12:05! My only complaint is it is a bit expensive! Although there was an insane amount of lobster meat, which is great. But $ 70 for the two of us for lunch is a bit much, but worth it on our little trip out of the city.

Best lobster roll I have ever had! It was flavorful and juicy and so fresh. The portions were huge and I could have easily made 2 rolls from all of the lobster. The ambience is laid back and cozy but definitely be prepared for a wait. Our party of 10 got lucky and got a table outside immediately but there was a line. It is worth it. Also I should mention there are other options besides lobster but yea… why? Cannot wait to go back !! !

Definitely the best bang for your buck in the Montauk/Amagansett area as far as lobster rolls go. Whopping portion of flavorful lobster on a buttery, toasted bun. I got the classic cold lobster roll, which comes with a healthy helping of coleslaw. Other good options: hot lobster roll, lobster bisque, and sweet potato fries with honey mustard sauce. Very accommodating to our large group and our waiter had a good sense of humor.

Mandatory stop on the way to the house. Immediately recognizable from The Affair series. I got the hot lobster roll, which was a few dollars more than the classic at $ 27 with fries for another few dollars … a total of $ 32 plus tip. We did take out for the house. I took a peek in the bag and found they put a classic roll in there … the nice counter lady apologized for the mistake and brought me out a new bag. All in all, a positive experience as the hot lobster roll in drawn butter is my new lobster roll standards.

Iconic beachy establishment that defines summer in Montauk. For the fresh seafood, the 50’s nostalgic vibe and the overall experience, it should not be missed. As a «lunch» virgin, and not loving lobster I opted for the Tuna Steak a Sandwich with the roumalade sauce which was terrific. I will be back the next time we make the trek.

You can typically guess how long an establishment has been around based on its URL/website name. It’d be safe to bet that this restaurant, whose website URL is , is one of the first lobster roll restaurants in the world. Located along the highway on the way to Montauk, Lunch, Loster Roll Restaurant is an establishment that has been around for 50 years(since 1965). The restaurant looks extremely patriotic from outside, decorated almost entirely in red, white, and blue. While the restaurant features other seafood entrees(i.e. fish ‘n chips, shrimp, salmon) and sandwiches, you have to get its namesake menu — lobster roll — when you are here. I started the lunch with Homemade Lobster Seafood Bisque. A «crcok» of the bisque($ 8.50), or a small/medium sized bow, contained a hearty blend of lobster, shrimp, and scallops with a touch of sherry. I guess you would love the bisque if you are into extremely rich and creamy soup, but it was a bit too much for me. I was impressed by bits and pieces of lobster meat, but still think $ 8.50 for a relatveily small bowl was overpriced. There are two options for the lobster roll. The«Classic» is the traditional, cold lobster roll, while the«Hot» is — yes, you guessed it, warm lobster roll in drawn butter. I had the Classic, which came with ¼ lb of homemade creamy cole slaw. The lobster salad mixed in with celery and mayonnaise was served in between very buttery bread. I liked the crunchy texture that celery added to the lobster roll. The flavor profile of the creamy cole slaw and the buttery bread was a bit too similar. The lobster roll doesn’t have a set price because it’s based on Market Price. I paid $ 23.95 for it. My friend who had the Hot Lobster Roll($ 26.95) got chunks of hot lobster meat served in drawn butter. The toasted hot dog buns was on the side, and the plate also included the cole slaw. Overall a bit expensive, but you do get a lot of lobster meat.

Andrea, The receipt we were given specially said the charge was for an extra«roll». Not the fries. Additionally, there are several reviewers who feel the same way about the excess butter on the hot lobster roll, I do not feel that it is only«not my taste» for the extra butter. It was so over powering that I was nauseous the entire way home. I appreciate your time to respond however I don’t believe we will return. We sincerely felt jipped from our experience at The Lobster a Roll. — So disappointed in this place. EXTREMELY over priced. We got crab cakes as an appetizer. $ 11 for ONE crab cake! If we knew that we wouldn’t have ordered it! We ordered it as an app to share. We had figured since it is crab CAKES, there would be more than one. Not just one. Then, my friend and I ordered lobster rolls. I had never had one before. I ordered the cold and my friend ordered the hot. But the waitress said she would give us an extra bun so I could try my friend’s hot lobster roll. When we got the bill for it, she charged us $ 3 for the extra roll!!! How ridiculous! We didn’t even ask for it. We just took it because she said she’d put an extra roll on the plate. Additionally, the hot lobster roll was drenched in butter where we felt sick after we left. It was NOT worth $ 27 at all. We had decided to go because they are celebrating 50th anniversary and because I’m a fan of the TV show The Affair. Definitely will not be going back ever again not would I recommend it to anyone. Very disappointed.

What an iconic restaurant, and definitely a staple to go to when in the Hamptons. I’ve been going to Lunch with my family for years and it never disappoints. I typically go for the fish and chips, which are always great, but I recently went and got their cold lobster roll. I easily could have had ten more, it was so delicious. My sister always gets the full lobster, which is always fresh and juicy(as is all of their food). I love the casual ambiance of the restaurant, which is appropriate for couples, families, anyone. The service is always quick and everyone who works there is always so pleasant.

This is not a 3 stars Michelin restaurant, but this is a staple of the hamptons road to Montauk and the truest lobster roll sandwich out there! Sure this is a glorified shack dinner but an über known one, featured in many TV series and movies(as recently as on HBO’s «the Affair»)… And as expected the fried seafood is great, the lobster salad perfect… The only downside is that they need to tell you in advance to bring a big spray of Off because of the stinging insects buzzing all around in the backyard.

So many haters in this world, specifically in the comment section. The lobster roll here is off the hook! I’ve had my share of rolls and this is on point. Juicy, buttery, fresh and delicious. The roll was soft & toasty in middle. I don’t know what else to say but this is a must try in Montauk. The sweet potato fries are good too! Oh and the clam chowder, wow it was so delicious and creamy! On top of it all the waitress had a positive attitude, wore a smile and was helpful! I will come back again.

The best thing about this place is it’s signage and vintage roadside ambience. All things go downhill when you step inside. Long waits for Greek Diner quality crap. Watery chowder from a can. Modified Campbells? Frozen, tasteless, overbreaded deep fried seafood. Nothin local. Nothin cheap. If you’re lookin for fresh local steamers, look elsewhere. The signature lobster roll can be decent but even that is inconsistent. Strictly a tourist trap for the landlubbers.

If you want the quintessential New York lobster roll experience, you have to try Lunch at least once. It’s one of those things. Sure, you can find lobster rolls everywhere these days with varying price points and settings. From trucks parked on 5th avenue to Smorgasburg to any of the various Luke’s locations scattered throughout the city. But none can accomplish what Lunch has been doing in Amagansett for 50 years and counting. The essential roadside stop anytime you’re in Suffolk County, it’s hard to imagine better lobster in Long Island. Whether you opt for the lobster salad, the smaller lobster sliders, or the tried and true, buttery and toasty lobster roll itself, you’re winning at life when you eat at Lunch. And if these delicious crustaceans aren’t your thing, there are a variety of other seafood and land-based delights that should suffice. Though you’d be foolish not to come in for what they’re famous for. Get there early and try to nab a seat outside on a nice afternoon. In Drake’s words, it takes the experience from zero to 100 real quick.

Stopped in here today — was so annoyed I couldn’t check in for the free lobster beer or just check in at all. Either my phone sucks or the service out there was terrible. On a better note it wasn’t that crowded so we were seated outside at nice little table — service was quick and friendly as always. We each ordered a lobster roll(lobster salad) with fries and the frozen lemonade. The lobster salad per usual was awesome just the right amount of mayo and celery the lobster meat chunky and cold on a nice warm buttery bun. The frozen lemonade went perfect with the sandwich. The only thing that peeved me about the meal was the amount of money they charged for the sweet potato fries — 6.50! And they were either soggy or not cooked through enough. Terrible! The ride out here is insanely long but the lobster roll is worth it — a bit of nostalgia for me remembering summers spent in Montauk with my family. You can tie the trip in with a day at the beach or stops on the Hampton Vineyard trail.

Stopped here for a late lunch on my way out to Montauk for the weekend. Someone had recommended it to me, and my friend who I was with also heard it was good, so we decided to give it a try! We got there around 3:30, and it was actually a bit more crowded than I expected. No one was eating inside(because it’s summer time and you eat outside!) and so we had about a 5 – 10 min wait for a table outside. The tables outside were all picnic tables with umbrellas for shade. We looked over the menu, even though we both knew were getting lobster rolls. We put in our order, and they came out pretty quick. It was a good sized roll served with coleslaw and crinkle cut fries! I love crinkle cut fries, I wish more places served them. Everything was really good and hit the spot! I guess it’s a little pricy, but that was expected, and I thought it was totally satisfiying. Perfect way to start a weekend out in Montauk.

Solid 4 stars for the lobster roll. Stopped here on the way to the train as we were craving lobster rolls. Decent size, they don’t skimp on the meat(nicely varied as well), perfectly cooked. It is a bit pricier than other rolls I’ve gotten in NYC tho. Taste wise, pretty delicious; the bun it’s served in complimented it nicely. Fries were just okay. Partially due to the take out factor of sitting in it’s own steam in styrofoam, but a tad overdone. Cole slaw was slightly above average as it wasn’t drenched in mayo, but could still use some culinary love to spice it up. Overall I was pretty pleased though and my apprehension at getting a lobster roll at a 3.5 rated Unilocal place was happily dispelled.

Easy to see why it’s pretty much everyone’s favorite place. There is a large menu and a lot of seating inside and outside. Service is on point. Absolutely no problems, even when they’re busy. Food is solid, but not mind blowing or outstanding. Nether is it forgettable. It’s the kind of place where you can go with different types of people and there will be something for everyone. Families with small kids eating next to socialites. Hondas parked next to Bentleys. Also note that even though there is a lot of seating inside and outside, but it is always busy. Even during lunch. You will see people grabbing lobster rolls and eating in their cars parked outside.
