It’s unfortunate that the only review on this page is a bad one, but my horrific experience at Show Offs negates the slight remorse I feel. This incident took place about five years ago. I had spent several years using boxed blondes on my hair, and decided I wanted to change the color to more of an auburn. I(foolishly) used a box color, and it came out a blotchy orange and pink because of the years of damage from the blonde. I made an appointment at Show Offs to get it fixed on my mother’s recommendation. She regularly got her hair done there and was a satisfied customer. When I arrived, I told my stylist that I wanted the color to be fixed and did NOT want my hair cut. She talked me into a trim. Once I agreed, she proceeded to put my hair into a ponytail, and CUTITOFF. She called this a «compression cut.» I was horrified. She then moved on to the color. The first application did not completely take, due to the damage the boxed color had done. She told me she suspected this would happen, and reapplied the color, then later charged me for both applications. If she even suspected that the initial color wouldn’t take, she needed to inform me and give me options. She never said a word about it. She passed me off to someone else to shampoo me, then her daughter proceeded to finish the cut which I specifically requested not happen. I should mention at this point that after two applications, my hair was NOT auburn or anything close. It was a deep eggplant. Purple. I’m not eggagerating. Not only did the daughter continue to cut off more hair, she gave me bangs and when all cutting and styling was done, I looked like Pat Benetar. So let’s count. 1) I did not want a haircut. I got one anyway and it was stylish only thirty years ago. 2) I asked for a chemical service and was not informed about the process or the possible outcomes. 3) I asked for one color and got a very, very different one. 4) I was passed from person to person, each with a different idea of what should happen to my hair, none of which reflected the instructions I gave. As if all of this wasn’t enough, when I went to pay, the woman who hacked off all of my hair and made my hair purple casually asked me for $ 140. I balked and asked why. Without blinking, she explained she was charging me for two colors and a cut and style. Not having enough backbone to dispute, I handed her $ 150 and told her to keep the change. She then had the audacity to say, «Are you sure you want to tip me? I know you’re a college student and your funds must be tight.» Are you kidding? I told her not to worry about it and left, turning red with anger. I only wish I had had the guts to tell her how I really felt and refuse to pay for the service, so this review will have to do. Hindsight is 20⁄20.
