Holiday Inn Express & Suites Altoona-Des Moines

I have stayed at many Holiday Inns through out the country and this one is definitely at the lower end of the spectrum. I have a low tolerance for stupid, unfortunately this place has an abundance of stupid! I will not be back!

The Holiday Inn located in altoona, IA surpasses all expectations. From helpful and friendly staff upon check-​in to clean and comfortable rooms — I would recommend this hotel to all. It’s been a long while since I’ve found a room that felt clean. The linens are fresh and the room all in all was very well kept. The pictures do not do the rooms justice (tvs are now flat screens) and I would suggest they are updated for future guest contimplating their stay here. The hotel is outside the walking distance to restaurants but you drove here so obviously you have a mode of transportation to get to one of the many eating establishments available in town. My large family and I stayed here while visiting adventureland and after a long day at the park, we were able to come back and relax in comfort.

I would have expected more for the price. Apparently they need competition here. Barracks style hotel, plain rooms, and right out of the box breakfast. What I would have expected at half the price.

Unfortunately this is not one of the nicer Holiday Inn Express’. Very expensive with no amenities in room — no mini fridge, microwave and not even a closet door, just an alcove to hang clothes.
On the positive, room is clean and bed linens smell fresh washed and the bed is VERY comfortable.

Room smelled funky. But contrary to other reviews the TV quality was pretty great!
In the morning the elevator smelled like puke but other travel-​mates didn’t smell it later on so maybe they freshened it up quickly.
Tea/​hot water was available all day. Breakfast was complimentary but wasn’t that great.

Overpriced – not a good value.
Very noisy. Easy to hear people out in the hall.
Breakfast was barely average. Coffee was awful.
Television fuzzy on majority of channels.
Clean. Service was acceptable. Free wi-​fi was nice.
