Service was good but wow can you have breakfast joint and not have sausage patties?

Today is National Pancake Day. IHOP offers a free short stack. This IHOP was very clean and since we only had two in our party we were seated quickly. The table next to us and 15 free stacks of pancakes, all I can say is that it going to need a lot of syrup. We ordered bacon, and my friend got an egg also. The coffee was very good, bonus it was served in a small carafe. This way I did not have to bother the waitress for refills. It did take a bit but again It was FREEPANCAKES, but so worth the wait. Nice and fluffy with 4 different syrup options(blueberry, traditional maple, strawberry and lite). It made me feel like my pancakes were healthy when I used the blueberry syrup…

I had a delicious breakfast this morning at this IHOP with my grandparents and we were given great service by our waitress so I’m a little surprised at the other reviews. An IHOP is a chain Resturant so you aren’t going to get much change in food so I’m not saying my breakfast blew my mind or anything but I thought it was really good for IHOP standards. I had the French toast, scrambled eggs, bacon and hash-browns. The bacon was perfect, the hash-browns were pretty good and so were the eggs. The French toast was a little undercooked for my preference but I still ate all of it. The coffee was also decent and our waitress was very pleasant. Overall I had a wonderful breakfast here!

I just had dinner there this evening and placed a simple order — the create your own French Toast combo with scrambled eggs and bacon. When the food arrived, there were sausage links instead of the bacon. When I informed the waitress she checked her paper, saw that she had taken the order properly and scurried off to get my bacon. Or so I thought. Instead she comes back with a saucer and says she needs to take the sausage(which I had no plans of eating) back to the kitchen before I could get my bacon. My bacon was being held hostage. So I gave her the sausage and sat in disbelief with my aunt over what had happened saying that this had never happened to us at any restaurant ever before. I still have no idea what they did with said sausage — since it had been on my plate and I physically placed it on the server’s saucer I would hope that they’d know they needed to throw it away but one never knows… Finally a couple minutes later I get the blessed bacon(which was almost raw). Yay? When I brought the issue up to the manager as I was paying her stock answer was that it was their company operating procedure. Apparently they have had people say something similar to what I did just so they can get a few bites of free food. She also said that if I’d ever worked in any chain restaurant with standard operating procedures then I would understand. I informed her that I had worked in a chain restaurant and while there are certain procedures, customer service is still #1. If a customer would say something was wrong with their order you make it right to ensure that they have a pleasant experience, not make them feel like Oliver Twist begging for a free bite of food. If you’re that concerned with someone cheating you out of two pieces of bacon or sausage then you shouldn’t be in business.

Service has always been good here. Food can range from good to great and I have no idea why. There are two servers, Heather B and Laura, that really know what good service is and how to serve it. Now if we can get the food up to a consistent great this place would be outstanding!

When this new IHOP opened, it wasn’t open 24 Hours any day of the week. I am now happy to say, it has expanded it’s hours for Thursday — Saturday to 24 Hours. This location use to be a Denny’s Diner that closed several years ago and sat vacant. IHOP came in did a full remodel and has brought new life and a new breakfast place to the Alton area. Part of my work schedule requires me to work in Alton on weekends and except for the local McDonald’s the choices for an early breakfast were bleak. Now that this IHOP has expanded its hours, my options have expanded. I can easily stop in grab a quick coffee and a Simple Breakfast and still be at work by 6AM. Their Simple Breakfast is a good value. It’s simple, two eggs, choice of two bacon strips or two sausage patties, Hash Browns and Toast. I have them hold the toast, the Hash Browns are enough starch for this dieting man. The staff from what I have experienced is small town friendly and attentive to their diners. I may find myself getting up a little earlier just so I can have a hearty breakfast. After all, it is the most important meal of the day.
