I had such high hopes for this place as I really miss Ramon’s. Alas — Dickeys can’t hold a candle to the old Ramon’s. I went in with two friends and we all ordered something different. One of us had been there numerous times just to get their shoestring fried onions, or as they call them, onion tanglers. I didn’t quite understand it(and I love fried onions in any form) because I thought they were limp and greasy as were the fries The meat was fair but had too much fake smoke flavoring, the quantity was lacking, the bun sizes were small and the bread cheap. The beans were canned, the slaw pre-packaged as was the mac & cheese and the potato salad. In other words — this is basically a fast-food BBQ restaurant with pre-made, pre-packaged food. You walk in the door, order at the counter and the food is served to you in disposable packaging on plastic trays.(I got a real kick out of the the gal at the counter when I asked if they had root beer and she told me, «oh no, we do not serve alcohol».) You fill your own drink cups and you add your choice of condiments, including bbq sauce. Same kind of set-up you’ll find at Carl’s Jr or Arby’s, or wherever — with the exception of the soft-serve ice cream machine. Oh — and the price. The price will be higher than your average fast food joint — but hey, it does include the fake ice cream.

Visited yesterday and ordered the Friday pulled pork plate special. The portions were decent and the bbq beans were piping hot, but the pulled pork was little more than room temperature. BOOOO! Onion tanglers were made on the spot. Maybe a retry with beef brisket that I prefer is in order, but somehow that room temp pork might not let me get to that second visit.

First time at Dickeys BBQ Pit Alpine about a month ago. Went on a Sunday. Place was deserted. Ordered Pork Ribs combo plate. Mac and cheese and baked beans were the sides. Hands down the worst meal I have paid for in awhile, by the way was not cheap either. Ribs were stoned cold when I got home, which by the way is literally a block away. Beans were luke warm and the Mac and cheese was so hot I’m surprised it didn’t melt the container it was in. Stay Away!!! Horrible food but the people were nice there!!!

Tonight was my first time at Dickeys. We were at the Alpine Parade and my two kids got hungry. We waited in a fast moving line and truly enjoyed ourselves. My son(7 yrs old) watched the chef cut the meat. Our food was delicious and easy to eat! No messiness, like many bbq foods. I loved seeing the soft serve ice cream available. We’ll need to go back to get the full«eat in» experience, when there us not a parade going on outside their door.

The reviews on here are great but they aren’t giving it five stars. What’s with that? This place is worth it. The food is delicious and you get free ice cream. How can you complain about that. The service is also friendly. Kevin is always ready to listen for your order and is very diligent.

Food is hot and tasty, prices are in line with other bbq places in SD, and employees are really nice. Atmosphere is appropriate for kind of restaurant and I think the portions are fine — we’re getting too used to stupid-huge amounts of food on our plates and think we’re getting cheated when we’re not automatically served battleship-sinking portions. My experience with Dickey’s was very positive — I’ll eat there often if the negative reviews don’t kill the place. Alpine seems to have issues with new places succeeding — you have to wonder about that…

We’ve been there 4 times now, and it’s consistently average. $ 25 for 2 kids chicken nugget meals and a chop sandwich that really wasn’t chopped, more mush. My kids complained because we went back today, and they were right. Reason for the third star was the ice cream was good.

I’m a fan of Dickeys BBQ Pit because the meat is good, the staff is super friendly, the price is right, and the daily specials are a great concept. If you find yourself in Alpine and are craving some BBQ, swing by and you can thank me later. Their daily specials are what keep me coming back over and over. 10 bucks will get you two heaping portions of BBQ meat, two sides — I always go with the delicious Mac and Cheese and perfectly crispy and seasoned waffle cut fries. This is a large portion for lunch so come hungry! The interior is clean, well decorated and perfect to stay in and eat BBQ on a hot east county day.

We are stoked to have dickey’s in alpine. The food is always great. U like the ribs and the brisket. Their sauces are almost perfect. I’ve had better. But, for a franchise place, it’s dang good. And, the ice cream is free! The new Alpine store needs to step up their game with the hired help. I’m sure they will have to weed thru some folks to find the keepers. You will enjoy the BBQ.

Delicious! Had the 2 meat plate, spicy cheddar sausage & pulled pork. Okra & onion tanglers. Saw a little girl make a root beer float with her drink cup & free soft serve ice cream. Monkey see, monkey do… yum! The guy serving is was super friendly, restaurant was clean and comfy. No complaints. None. Saw a bunch of haters writing reviews during the grand opening. Hope they give it another shot now that’s is settled down. Cuz it was AWESOME!

The portions were tiny, the 3 meat plate consisted of about 2⁄3 cup of meat combined. The barbecue beans were out of a can and the fried okra was obviously pre-made out of the freezer. The meat was lukewarm, of course that’s what happens when you keep it in a warming tray wrapped in plastic wrap. The guy serving me says: «We recommend the brisket be chopped up, it stays moister that way.» I was like«Okay.» Realistically they chop it up so it takes up more room on the plate. I don’t know why places do this type of thing, if you aren’t making a profit, don’t treat people like they’re stupid and make the portions smaller pretending that they won’t notice, just charge a little more. The only good thing in the entire place was the barbecue sauce, of course they don’t make it, it’s all from a bottle. Basically, I don’t recommend this place.

I went with my wife twice once for lunch and once for dinner. Both very bad, meat was cold ordered jalapino beans and got plain beans. I might say okra was good. Had a long wait for the food. I had ribs which were awful cold greasy. My wife had a pulled pork sandwich which was cold. I don’t mind paying a high price for good food but as far as I am concerned I will never go there again.

I’m from Texas. BBQ is in my blood. It is part of my life force. The point is, I know good BBQ and Dickey’s was pretty damn good. I admit I was skeptical because chain BBQ is pretty sketch. My family and I went on Sunday when kids eat free. I ordered the brisket with fried okra and green beans. Bomb. The portions weren’t that large, but I was full after having my meal. Their sauce is great as well. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich and said he really liked it as well. They have a wide variety of sides that you’d find at a real BBQ place. That is the one reason I don’t like Phil’s BBQ. They have crappy sides and nothing you’d find at a southern type BBQ place. That’s one way Dickey’s beats Phil’s. I’d definitely recommend it for anyone looking to try something other than the typical Phil’s.

I have been on a BBQ kick lately and I was very glad to learn via Unilocal that Dickey’s was also located in Alpine while I was visiting the area. I had the Giant Baker at the Balboa location before and was very pleased with it, so I went for it again! I ordered it was smoked brisket and bacon and loaded with the rest of the condiment, but with the sour cream on the side for $ 8.95. For kicks, I also tried a side of their green beans and bacon. When they say«giant,» they are not kidding! This spud was huge and loaded with a very good of amount of brisket and bacon. The potato was very well baked and piping hot an tender throughout. The smoked brisket came chopped and was tender and came with mild smokey flavor. The bacon added a nice salty element, nice flavor, and that good chewy and crunchy texture the potato needed. I really enjoyed the chopped fresh scallions, which put a little spring into the Baker. If there was anything this spud needed was a little more grated cheddar cheese. It was nice having the original BBQ sauce and sour cream on the side was a great idea. I was able to control the portions as I ate and what I wanted to enjoy the potato with at any given moment. The BBQ sauce was very good and the sour cream was, well sour cream. The green beans were of the Italian flat cut version, and were well seasoned and served with smoked ham and bacon. I liked the addition of the ham and bacon, but I would of liked to have seen just a little more of it. The green beans were not only tasty, but tender and a great side, if you like that sort of thing. Service at the ordering counter was friendly and well informed. They offer weekly lunch specials. I never knew they were in Alpine.

We went on opening day. The wait was long and the food was horrid. We got a rib plate, which was dry, fatty and burned. The sides were incorrect. Also got the stuffed potato with tangles. There were no tangles. I guess they ran out and didn’t tell. Spent almost $ 30 and it was awful. I emailed through the website and a manager from Alpine called immediately. Took my name and order. Told me to come in any time for a replacement. He wanted a chance to show us the food was good. I asked if I had to ask for anyone specific. He said«No», that my name and order would be right by the register and he would make sure everyone was aware. My husband goes in last night to get the new order. He was treated terribly. Made to feel like he was there to beg for food. Everyone there was very rude. Bad customer service. He left with nothing but another bad experience at Dickeys.

I’ve been to this Dickey’s location twice now and it’s not bad. I don’t know if I went on a «good» day, but my experience was not as bad as some of the other reviews on here. Now, I’m going to admit that I’m a Phil’s fan. I’m not ashamed of it. A lot of BBQ snobs will discredit Phil’s because they cook it in the oven, then grill it, but whatever… the s**ts delicious. I’ve had Dickey’s ribs, pulled pork, brisket and spicy cheddar sausage. They were all pretty good. They all come sauce free, but you can go to the sauce station and choose between 3 different sauces. The baked beans and mac n cheese were also good. The best part is that kids eat free on Sunday’s and they also have free soft serve vanilla ice cream after you’re done pigging out.

Tin foil in the food, bones in the«boneless» meat, filthy prep area, huge wait, unprofessional, amateur, pre made mac n’ cheese(in a bag) soggy fries, no exit door, etc, etc, etc… If I could do a zero star review I would. First off we got there and only had about 5 people in front of us, not 5 groups and was made to wait at least 15 minutes for this debacle of inefficiency. One prep guy struggling to prepare the meat plates. Over and over he went back and forth to a warmer shelf to grab meat«wrapped» in plastic wrap. Thank god I didn’t get a piece of plastic down my throat. All the meat was cold, ham was dry. Why no hot trays with meat? This place is a joke don’t waste your time or money. If you want mediocre service and risky food then by all means knock yourself out. On another note, don’t you find it odd that the 5 star reviews for this place are by new Unilocal users… I’m not a veteran Unilocaler by any means, but any foodie with a clue knows this place is complete garbage.

Beyond disappointing ! Took my daughter for lunch., To say it was«really bad» would be kind. The staff is yelling at each other and they get the order wrong. The food was poor cheap quality, the cheese on my sandwich was not melted, everything was ice cold. For $ 8.00 my daughter had a chicken cesear salad. The chicken was not cooked through(yea it was pink!). The set up is terrible, same guy who takes your order preps the meat and sends it to the next worker who asks me questions whispering to me, I cannot hear a word he is saying. There are 5 to 6 people working there and it takes FOREVER to get your food, which is served COLD! The place is loud and cramped and expensive. Simply not worth the time and money.

With a new BBQ pit coming to alpine, my whole family got excited about trying the new food. After waiting in a long line(which is actually promising) we got up to the counter. We got 2 of the 1 meat plates with turkey as the main part. Okay, here is why i docked points. The turkey is like a lunch meat texture or spam like quality. For almost $ 12.00 i wasn’t expecting spam turkey. My kids got the chicken nugget meals and the waffle frys weren’t even cooked all the way.(discovered that after we got home) The customer service was good though and the way the place was set up was pretty nice. I can forsee parking being a huge issue for this place in the future though. Oh an we got coleslaw, green beans, and those onion tingler things and the sides were decent. All and all im not impressed of their food with the price tag it cost.
