Another place that I turn to as an escape from Cantonese cuisine dishes, my Taiwanese Chinese friend actually recommended the Niu Rou Mian(literally means Beef Noodles in Mandarin Chinese, but it’s really Beef Noodle Soup), and it’s his secondary choice to get decent Niu Rou Mian at a decent price in Boston, which is one of his favorite Chinese dishes. I had the Wu Xiang Niu Rou Mian(Five Spices Beef Noodle Soup in Mandarin Chinese) twice at this place during the Autumn and Winter, and it is an almost perfect choice for a good dinner during a really cold day. The beef is soft, chewy and very flavorful. The noodles are good, and the broth had plenty of spice. The heat from the broth made me feel so warm inside, that it made me more confident to step back out into the freezing night and it made walking through the cold more bearable. Another dish that I had was the Kou Rou Fan, which is the Roasted Pork Belly on rice. One dish should be able to fill up a really hungry grown man. It comes with pickled vegetables and a hard boiled egg. The pickled vegetables were tasty, the egg was decent, and the pork was chewy, meaty and great. Mixing it with the rice made it tastier, and after eating the entire dish, my really hungry stomach was really happy. I also had the Tai Shi Chao Mian(Taipei Style Noodles), which is a simple noodle dish with some chopped vegetables and minced meat. I thought it was decently good, could use a little more meat. I also had the Sha Cha Chao Mian(Sha Cha Noodles) with beef. Sha Cha Noodles are doused in a spiced sauce and consists of watercress and beef. It had plenty of oily spice to it and the watercress was tasty. It could also use a little more meat as well. One strange thing about this place is that it is closed on Mondays because I went there on a Monday night, and it was closed. I guess everybody needs a day off which is understandable. Dishes are under $ 10, so overall, this is a great place to get some good, filling and inexpensive Taiwanese Chinese cuisine.

Wisteria is my go-to option when I’m in the Super 88 food court. Nothing against the other places, which are also good, but I always go for Taiwanese when I can find it. Things to get: basil chicken and beef noodle soup. Both Taiwanese standards. The basil chicken is extremely flavorful, crispy and savory. Think of Asian popcorn chicken – but with basil! Love the generous bok choy accompaniment too. The beef noodle soup is a little too greasy in the broth most of the time, but they get the flavoring and the veggies right(bok choy, baby, not lettuce or spinach or any other dark green). I wish the beef were chunkier, though.

Wisteria has really good Taiwanese food. very tasty. However, the smoothies they have on the menu– none of the employees seem to know how to make. I saw them tasting while making it with a spoon right out of the blender, and reuse the same unwashed spoon to try again later. It’s so unsanitary, one guy even scooped out another spoonful to give his coworker to try. Just gross. I immediately asked for my money back. Such a shame. bc their food does taste good.
