I’m sure this place WAS good, but it is no longer open. It’s closed my friend, CLOSED!

Went to Café Belo tonight for dinner. I’ve been to the Café Belo in Somerville on a previous occasion and this one is much smaller. To reiterate a prior review, this place is more for takeout/delivery than for eating in. For those who want to eat there, however, they do have about 62-person tables set up here. The place is tucked away in the corner of a small shopping plaza(right next to the RiteAid). The plus about this place is that it has shared parking with the RiteAid so you don’t need to scour the streets for a spot. There is no wait service here. You basically get whatever sides you want from the mini buffet and then go up to the counter for your meat. They then weigh it all and charge you for it. Because of the size of the place the selection of sides is pretty meager. I think there were only 10 or so. I tried the collard greens, the potato salad, the veggie rice, the black beans, and some sausage and bean mixture. I enjoyed the greens a lot, but the rest of the sides were just meh for me. The sausage dish tasted more like stir fried hot dogs than the sausage I am generally used to. I got the beef and the pork for my meat. The beef was so-so, some pieces were moist and some were dry. The pork was really tasty though and very moist. I must also add that I had a cert for this place too. $ 35 of food here would easily make two people explode. If you have one and are thinking of coming here I would suggest that you bring 3 – 4 people with you to spend it. Also, because there was basically no service they didn’t charge the 18% gratuity stated on the cert. I tipped them anyway though because the food was cheap and of decent quality and the girl working the counter was very friendly.

An unfortunate loss that the original larger restaurant burned down, Café Belo is now converted into the thrifty man’s take-out and delivery dream. The food is great, their ordering is efficient, and the staff are very pleasant. If you opt for delivery, there is a special not listed on the menu where you order a meat and five sides of your choice. it’s more than enough food for two meals and is only about $ 8 plus tip(and they deliver). Particularly good are their black beans, farofa, collared greens, and brazilian chicken salad.

Fantastic take-out place. Set up to be a take-out joint. Cheap, good, reliable… Reliable because you’re picking out your own order from a mini buffet. If something doesn’t look good, don’t take any. You can also see exactly the meat they’re going to give you. Again, if a particular meat seems dry or what not, pick something else. Btw, students get a fairly generous discount here… College students should love the place. Quality cooked food at better than fast food prices. Biggest plus? there’s a whole parking lot that is always half empty. Makes life a lot easier. People are very friendly, as well.

Food was terrific. Went there for lunch today and grabbed the food to-go. I like how it’s set up buffet style, because I can grab as much/little food I want at my convenience. Lots of different options up for grabs. I am a huge fan of their vegetable salads(green breans, potatoes, corn, carrot shreds and peas all mixed with LIGHT mayo – not smothered) and tuna-potato salad(tuna, carrot shreds and fried potato shreds – all home-made!) which has a nice, savory sweet flavor to it! YUMMMM! I then got chicken hearts from their meat rotisserie all on a bed of white vegetable rice(rice, carrots, peas, green beans and corn). I also got a coxinha(chicken in a breaded dough that’s fried), one with cheese inside and another without. Absolutely delicious! I highly recommend getting a brigadeiro(chocolate ball dipped in jimmies) for dessert, because they’re so simple, sweet and filling; I wanted to get one to top off my meal but because they’re so popular they were sold outta ‘em! Café Belo has become one of my favorite spots to grab food for so many years; the only minor detail about the place is that it’s a bit pricey: $ 6.99/lb. But it becomes a nice treat for me to grab food to go or sit down in and eat!

I am a B-I-G huge fan of Café Belo. I died a little inside when they had the fire. I love that you only paid for what you wanted to eat, at $ 6.25 a pound, I believe. They had an amazing selection too! I think the sausage and the chicken were the best. The side dishes were always changing, but I made sure to get black beans and rice each time. So good! I really hope they rebuild the restaurant. Take out just isn’t the same.

If you are in the mood for meat, and lots of it, this is the place for you. Food is really good, and it varies day to day. The chicken and ribs are delish, and the garlic pasta dish is yummy. Do save some space for their home made desserts. So good! I just hope that they can re-open soon after last nights fire. :-(

This place rocks. I love Brazilian food and they lived up to my expectations. I ordered through Foodler to have the meal delivered, and it came on time, steaming hot and the portions were huge for the money I paid. They did not have the dessert that I ordered so one of the gentlemen working there that night called me to let me know, made a suggestion for a replacement, and I wish I remember what he called it because it was seriously one of the best desserts I have ever had in my life. I WILL find out what it is =] This is based on delivery… I will probably love it even more when I eat there. (I had rice, beans, ripe plantains with yuca, salad, orange juice and dessert).

Convenient parking lot(key in Allston). The sides were excellent(really good salsa!). The meat was OK, not much variety but it had most of the normal Brazilian BBQ meats. I was a little disappointed that they did not physically come around to serve the meats but the«pay as you eat» methodology is good for those who want to enjoy the food but not feel forced to overeat in order to justify the price of a fixed buffet. It came out to about $ 15 for two full plates of meat & sides — and you aren’t responsible for tip. I left a few bucks in the tip basket because I felt bad. I’d go back!

I SAYBRINGONTHEGOUT! This place is awesome for carnivores on a budget(me). You have a small counter of «fresh» salads and fruits — a mere distraction to the main showcase. I was not distracted but detoured at the special entrees(a roast beef stew, a chicken stew) and carnivorous accompaniments(rice, plantains and noodles). Then it was a bee-line to the barbecue where the meat and vegetables are prepared the way men prefer it. Charred and salted. HEAVILYSALTED. The meats and veggies were very… tasty? Yes and no. Satisfying? Immensely. Having never had Brazilian before though I would hate to judge the cuisine of the entire country on what was being offered here. You certainly won’t regret coming here, but your doctor surely will. My advice? Don’t tell your doctor.

Depends on the season or time you go, vegetable selection will change. I just went the other day and saw tons of grilled veges! When i went in a winter time I did not see them. I love their rice as well. They have chicken, pork, beef, sausages that you can choose. Buffet style so if you take a lot, of course price will goes up but it is decent price! Yummy home made food tastes!

My old Roomie, Kika, brought me here a bunch(she was from Bahia). Good eats on the cheap side. Better in summer for the vegetables. It’s pay by the pound, and a great value for that. I”l be totally honest and say it’s not the best Brazilian food you’ll eat. It may be the cheapest Brazilian food you’ll get in Boston. It’s not bad, but not the best you can find. There’s some deep fried cheese thingies that I can’t even look at. Woof!

There I was, sad and alone at school studying when I was saved. A friend informed me that she was planning on going to a brazilian bbq for dinner and invited me along. Although I was hoping for a churrascaria, a pay by the pound wasn’t too bad. I only ended up eating one plate but I was pleased with the selection of side foods(okra! plantains!!) and the sirloin was delicious. Got my entire meal + coke for under $ 10. Would definitely go back!

My boss recommended this place to me. It is the only restaurant that he eats at, and he frequents here probably 3 times a week. I have not had that much Brazilian cuisine, but I thoroughly enjoy this restaurant. You pay by weight, so it’s pretty cheap to stuff your face with all sorts of meat. I recommend the chicken, sirloin, and sausages. Although the bbq meat is the draw for a lot of people, side dishes in the buffet like greens, rice and beans, and chicken wrapped in bacon are all pretty solid. I suggest you do what I do and get a whole bunch of things piled high on your plate, so when you eat it all gets mixed up into a savory mess. I had the flan for desert which was standard, but they have a bunch of different desert options.

I have to agree with the previous reviews. You’re paying for the food by the pound, so you might as well eat the various meat dishes and just nibble at the other sides. The churrasco is great as are the various other meat items. Stretch yourself a bit and try some of the pork trimmings(ear, tail, feet) and you’ll get a surprised yet pleased nod from the staff. The sausages are also excellent and just a little spicy. Our group shared a few desserts as well. The ricotta cheesecake was airy and rich and the chocolate cake didn’t last long either. Great food and very affordable. This is probably the best spot in Brighton for Brazilian food, especially since Greenfield’s closed down.

If one day you find yourself with a compelling urge to completely beast out(feast on delights of the carnivore kind) Café Belo would be an optimal place to eat :) Skimp at the buffet/bar thing & pile up at the grill area. Don’t worry the food makes up for the akwardness of the first visit(Do I pay first? Why are you weighing my plate? Should I grab a beverage now?) & the price is very nice.

I just love Café Belo. A «Brazilian cafeteria» a buffet of a variety of yummy Brazilian dishes, including many meats roasted on spikes such as beef, chicken, chicken hearts, livers, pork. Its all priced by the pound, meats and non meats, priced differently. It a great place to come and get a satisfying inexpensive meal. One hint of advice is to get the meat that is fresh of the spiket, as older meats dry out. Love the pico de gallo vinaigrette YUM!

I love Café Belo. My friend from Rio turned me onto it and I’m forever grateful. Like everyone has said you pay by the pound, and they have differing scales for a mainly meat plate vs. a mainly vegetable plate(there are moments when I think I should be getting the veg. scale vs. the meat scale, but I don’t ask questions… however this aspect at times, seems a bit sketchy). That aside, I love the food. I go to the location in Brighton that’s in the parking lot with the Dunkin Donuts…(I think this one has the best food). They change their selection according to the day of the week. Fridays they generally have some kind of fish dish, and on Saturday they offer Feijoada, which is the best. Their side dishes always seem very fresh to me too, and I actually feel healthy eating there. One little secret… I dunno if they still do delivery, but my God if they do, and you’re in their area, get the delivery!!! You get soooo much food, and it’s awesome! Plus it’s so damn cheap!!! It’s cheaper than eating at the restaurant and there is only a $ 5 minimum delivery charge!!! When I lived in Brighton they were at my place at least once a week. Oh those were the best of times… So go check it out.

This place is like the Caveman’s version of a salad bar, for those of us who are trying to make up for the good all vegetarians out there try to do. You pay by the weight of your food, but the type of food is more like what you’d have at a feast after a hunt with spears, traps and elefant guns. Get it? More specifically, this is a Churrasqueria(aka a traditional Brazilian grilled meats house) without the $ 20 buffett charge. If you’re on the high-protein diet, out of health interest or more precisely, gluttony, come satisfy that inner Neanderthal. PS: bring your date — if she’s the scary type.
