Got take out today. Great food! Ordered by phone. Around noon, 15mins. Just getting in. They had just finished making the boardwalk fries. Really good. Order a Mandarin salad. Nice size pieces of chicken, mixed greens, etc… Good size portions on a small fries and the salad and the burger we ordered. Nice people that run this place. Will go again. Very clean too

Seward’s located on 17th and union in Allentown, was Recommended by a few co-workers, Mike and Mike. So my wife and I decided to meet them for lunch. We both had a cheese steak hoagie and split a large Boardwalk fries. My co-workers had a chicken cheese steak and a regular cheese steak. My cheese steak hoagie was awesome. I’m not exaggerating when I say that their cheesesteaks are probably the best cheesesteaks I’ve ever had. The meat was excellent quality and seemed very lean compared to other cheese steaks I’ve had. Sewards doesn’t need to use fatty meat to add flavor, they taste perfect just the way they are. The lettuce and tomatoes were crisp and fresh. And stayed crisp down to the last bite. The roll was awesome! Crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I asked the owner while I was paying where he gets them. They have them delivered fresh daily from the Philadelphia area. He also said that they are usually still warm when he receives them, and the smell is great. It made me hungry all over again. The boardwalk fries are fresh cut, and fried to order they are very very good. Also a large is more than enough for two people. I don’t usually order that style of French fry but decided to try them since they make them there, I’m glad I did. Mike wanted me to add that the chicken steak was also very good. All In all I will definitely be coming back, For the GREAT food, and quaint atmosphere. I could say more but you really just have to try their cheesesteaks for yourself.

A couple of weeks ago a friend and I went here to have some cheese steaks. We had heard through word of mouth and had read reviews here on Unilocal about Sewards cheese steaks so we had to eat there and see for ourselves. We showed up approx 11:30AM on a Tuesday and sat at the counter. We were greeted and handed menus. I chose the medium cheese steak with onions and a small order of fries. The cheese steak came out extremely hot with fresh moist meat on a fantastic roll. The size of the cheese steak was massive for what would be considered medium sized. The fries were delicious and plentiful. The atmosphere is not unlike Zandy’s which is to say it’s caught in a time warp and hasn’t changed in years and I love it. Don’t change a thing about it. This is another Allentown historical gem and a tradition in local fare. If your searching for a great cheese steak in the city in an atmosphere that harks back to the early sixties this is your place.

This place has potential. I don’t care that it looks like a luncheonette from the 60’s, but what I do care about is a steak sandwich that is so dry. I totally agree with the previous review… the meat is like sawdust. Overlooked? Poor quality beef? Just not enough sauce? I really don’t know. The cook was very young, obviously new, but I have to guess its not him. Fix the dry sandwich and this could be one of the best in the Valley.

Great cheesesteak shop/diner. My chicken cheesesteak was perfect on a fresh Philly-imported bun. The menu offered a wide variety of cheesesteaks, salads and sandwiches. Nice seating area and friendly service. A good neighborhood spot. I will return.

Meat for steak sandwiches is dry and crumbly. Can’t say about anything else.

Wow, so good! Like the first poster I’m a vegetarian, and from a quick glance at the menu it looks like they have two vegetarian options, a black bean veggie burger, and a veggie cheesesteak. I know you may be thinking, only two options? Well I tried the cheesesteak, and let me tell you, it’s the kind of food you could order over and over again! A classic! It was loaded with veggies, all of which were impeccably fresh. My meat-eating date ordered a mushroom and swiss burger, and raved about it all night. Also, the staff was friendly and the service was quick. I’m definitely putting this on my list of go-to restaurants!

I have been going to Sewards for many many years and there food is excellent! I typically get the cheesesteak loaded, with extra cheese and an order of their hand cut french fries. They got great homemade soups and desserts as well. Mike, the owner is really into sports, so you can normally catch a game on the TV. Nice, small café type atmosphere.

How this place isn’t packed daily, I’m not sure. I’ve stopped in twice, now, having moved into the neighborhood a month ago, and both times I wanted to order seconds… if I had room. WARNING: I am a vegetarian, so I haven’t had their steaks, obviously. They DO, however, make a veggie steak out of black bean burger, which is tops in my book. It’s so loaded with everything good that you won’t miss the meat. My coworker and I wanted to split some fries, so we asked about sizes. The owner replied, a small is 8 oz., a large is a full pound. A FULLPOUND. We got a small and barely finished it on top of the sandwiches. I also had a three-cheese hoagie, which comes on a really fine roll, not your typical hoagie bun, but a little darker and crustier. It was loaded with cheese and toppings, and I wanted to eat three. One warning: They do not take credit. It’s cash-only, so come prepared. The first time I walked in all I could afford was a small sandwich for the cash I had on me. Thus the second trip the next day!
