Blick Art Materials

I love this store! It has so much to offer for art supplies and their prices aren’t bad. The employees are helpful and knowledgable on the product they are selling. Every time I have shopped here within the past year has been a great experience!
I am into drawing and started shopping here for colored pencils and Prismacolor markers. But with their wide selection– I was introduced to Pan Pastels (my new obsession), i can’t find anywhere else that sells them. I really really like that they sell open stock of most of the product so I can try out new mediums without having to buy sets

I have a daughter interested in learning to draw. My sis-​in-​law is an art teacher and professional artist in Ohio, and she swears by Blick. So, I visited the local shop, and have been impressed.
Even with my simple questions, the staff have been helpful on various topics. I have greater confidence in the general knowledge base of the staff here, versus a more general, big-​box, hobby shop. Seems like the store has breadth and depth in the products we’ve looked for.
My daughter is also taking a course offered by an instructor using the Blick facilities.

Maybe I was expecting more of a Michaels or AC Moore but unless you are doing actual painting/​coloring/​sketching you won’t find what you want. Went there a few times (the most useful thing is the bulletin board) looking for various supplies for a variety of art and crafting type things. Almost never buying anything.
I had an incident that has kept me from ever stepping foot there again. A few months ago I went there looking for art markers I believe? Something like that I can barely remember… Anyway, two women were at front talking. Normally I don’t mind this because sales associates are either clueless (I worked in retail and yeah sometimes we are, I’ll admit it) or type to upsell anything you look at. They greeted me and I went on my way browsing. I asked one of them a question and was also going to pick up an application since I saw they were hiring (I did art classes all through high school and my life so I have above average knowledge of a few mediums) and the staff talked to me like I was a toddler. Seriously? I’m 20 now. Not 2. I heard them talking so I can identify a fake voice.
Glad they didn’t hire me after that odd experience (also if you look to apply don’t have experience in anything outside paint or sketch. They don’t care about other mediums.)

I’m absolutely appalled at the prices. As a professional I’ve been to many art stores all over New Jersey, New York and other states. This is by far the most expensive art store I’ve ever been to. Even with the bogus discount card they offer for free, they’re still about 20% to 40% higher than any store, not to mention the prices anyone can find online. Even their own website! Ummmmmm… $ 70 for a $ 50 can of gesso? really? No wonder their so well stocked, nobody will shop there.
I honestly don’t understand. I asked one of their friendly staff who was selling me canvas what the comparison was and the difference was almost $ 100 for the same roll. She then apologized saying she wasn’t able to price match even though right in their membership card they claim to have «unbeatable prices».
It’s a clean, friendly store and really the only game in town, other than hobby shops but I’ll never go back unless it’s an emergency and if I let it get to that, I’ll consider it a punishment for not watching the level of my supplies.
There’s no excuse for this kind of markup.

the staff is very helpful, they will hug u if you ask. best place to get quality canvases and paints. there’s always a sale happening.

I always shop at Dick Blick for my art supplies. They have a great selection of professional quality materials. They even have gifts and a great clearance section. You can buy blank canvases sometimes really cheap. They have great sales throughout the year. sign up to be on the mailing list to receive coupons, it’s worth it!
