By far, probably the nicest and ONLY ‘non-budget’ Hotel in the area. I attended Alfred State 20+ years ago and came back to the area for a family reunion in Hornell. Little did I realize there were no full-service hotels and few with any amenities whatsoever. We opted to try the Saxon Inn. There are no amenities at the Saxon Inn and it’s no frills and simple. The cancellation policy is rigid. If you reach ‘the point of no return,’ of which I believe is 3 to 5 days from check-in, there is zero compassion or zero flexibility on circumstances. Period. We came from 6+ hours away. I called early in the day on our day of arrival and alerted them we’d be coming from far and arriving late. Not even halfway into our trip, we hit accidents and traffic, etc. We recalculated our arrival time and realized we’d be in the car far too long and arrive very late with our 5 year old. I called the Saxon Inn to see if there were flexibility with the reservation so that we could stop somewhere else and sleep for the night and finish the duration of the trip in the morning because we were too tired to continue driving. Nope. Zero flexibility. What a turn off. We arrived very late. The hotel was simple and clean. If we came to the area again, we would stay because there really aren’t many options, however, we were disappointed with their inflexible reservation policy.

Wait a hotel on a college campus I thought HUH??? But yes, you are correct. This is a unique idea I’m sure other colleges have adapted long before this one. About 10 years ago or so this inn was built to serve the community. You do not have to be a guest or family member of the college to stay here so don’t be fooled just because you have to drive through the campus to get to it. The prices are moderately priced in competition of big name brand hotels, which is to be expected. Very friendly service, clean hotel no complains. The rooms are nothing special just a decent place to stay.

This is the most convenient hotel for those visiting Alfred University and Alfred State(or just friends in Alfred). It is clean, the people at the desk are very friendly and they offer coffee and tea at all times. One area for improvement is the breakfast. I know it is ‘free’ but I would rather see local pastries, fruit and other healthy choices. It is just unappetizing to see pre-made muffins in plastic and the low-end food that is offered. The coffee was weak and the juice was not fresh tasting. I think I would rather not have anything or have them charge a little more for something good.

This hotel is literally in the middle of Alfred University’s campus. The entrance and lobby are lovely, but it stops there. Maybe they’re going for«quaint» but it really is just old. The air in the room felt stale, the temperature was hot and cold and it got super bright in the morning. The room was clean, but definitely didn’t sleep well.

This is the only serviceable hotel in the area. It is right on Alfred University’s campus. It’s not fancy, but it’s always totally clean and the service is good. This is the best(only) place to stay if you’re pampered city-folk coming to town to check out the college or visit.
