The Law Firm of Robert S. Brandt

Robert is smart, incisive, and incredibly knowledgeable about bankruptcy law. I am an older gay man, and he was open and responsive to the practical application of the law to the facts of my life. We had a general discussion by email and over the phone about the circumstances of a first and second mortgage, my income, my age, changing employment circumstances, and the upsides and downsides of both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13. After the initial back and forth through email and a telephone conversation, we sat down for a free face-​to-​face consultation where we went through all the variables relevant to my case. After a few days of mulling over his advice and talking with some trusted friends, I decided to pursue one of the options he recommended. The case went breathlessly easily. There were some gray areas of the law that both applied to my particular situation and recommended if I were to act immediately, it might benefit me in ways that I couldn’t take advantage of later. I decided to trust his advice despite some doubt of how it might turn out, and he was absolutely correct in his surmise. Chapter 7 Robert was the first and Only bankruptcy attorney I met for consultation. I did not even look around for other attorneys to get the second opinion after I met him. When I met him in person I thought — Aww, This guy knows what he is doing! What you are looking for in attorney? Confidence. Robert has it in excess. Besides that He has very positive energy which I needed to go through this turmoil. In one word, I am happy with my decision to choose him!

Wow. I was clueless and nervous and very apprehensive about the whole question of bankruptcy. Robert started with a thorough analysis of everything and discussed multiple options. It is not difficult to see why Robert Brandt receives so many five star reviews; he deserves every one of them. I had wanted to declare bankruptcy for some time but was intimidated by the process and apprehensive about how it would look on my credit scores, etc. Like most, I feared the sting of shame that could come with filing. But after my husband became ill, after it was apparent I was becoming a full time caregiving spouse and that this was preventing me from working as an editor and writer, I knew I had no choice but to consider bankruptcy. Recently relocated to Northern Virginia, I did a lot of online research. I was impressed by the reviews posted regarding Robert and when I phoned, he called back that same day and we set our first meeting wherein it appeared that for me and my situation, declaring was the best option. It was evident at once that Robert is not only superbly knowledgeable about bankruptcy and law but that he is a caring, considerate person. What can I say that hasn’t previously been said lauding how fantastic this attorney is? Robert really is A-​M-​A-​Z-​I-​N-​G. :D My husband and I finally bit the bullet and decided to file the big B. My sisters and I were helping my parents find a bankruptcy lawyer, and it came down to the Law Firm of Robert Brandt and another lawyer from a much larger firm. After meeting both lawyers, my parents picked Robert, which was definitely the best choice for them. He is extremely approachable and set my parents at ease with his humor. Coming to the understanding that they had to file for bankruptcy was a gut-​wrenching process for our parents, but once they started working with Robert they both felt better. I have limited experience with lawyers but I can tell that Robert has an incredibly personal touch with his clients. It feels strange to say this, but he made the process of filing almost enjoyable for my parents. He took it all in stride working with my charming but highly distracting and distracted parents and their three very involved and opinionated daughters. While his affect is casual and comic, Robert is a true professional. He is confident and knowledgeable, and that makes his clients feel confident too. My parents’ filing was approved and they were discharged of their debt. Everything happened exactly as he said it would. I would tell anyone that comes to Unilocal looking for a attorney. Mr. Brandt is a pleasure to deal with. He made this whole horrible process so easy for me. He is very honest and to the point. Which works well for me. He communicates very well. He is a very genuine person. Most attorneys I have met are not that type of person. He really is there for you. I now know that I am debt free and on a path to recover due to mr. Brandt. If you want a attorney who works fast and is on top of his game and cares about his client. Then stop here and give mr. Brandt a call. One last thing to add. Even when I was at my court proceeding the judge said you are lucky to have mr. Brandt as you’re attorney. He would be one of the few to be able to get you to be able to have this discharged. There really isn’t much else to say. Awesome!!! What I thought would be the scariest decision of my life turned out to be the most painless one (and I’m chicken **** for pain). :) Robert was funny, easygoing, and he worked quickly. Anyone going through a bankruptcy in VA should look no further than Robert. He always made sure to reply to our phone calls or emails and always respected our time. So glad I made the decision to go with him.

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Brandt on a foreclosure issue I had from when I lived in Florida. I was also involved in a bad real estate investment at the height of the market in 2008 and when property values finally decided to correct themselves, I lost 80% of the value in my condo which ended up in foreclosure. I’m one of those that — at the height of the real estate market — in South Florida borrowed on my home to purchase the house next door with an intention of flipping it within three years to make a huge profit. Unfortunately, I purchased the investment property at the height of the real estate market and utilized adjustable rate mortgages (ARM) on both homes. I had also borrowed from personal credit loans and credit cards to extensively renovate my primary home. You know how this story ends: I went from being an «almost» millionaire (on paper) to being «under» several hundreds of thousands of dollars very quickly after the real estate market collapsed. I also work for the federal government, routinely work with lawyers and judges, and have a security clearance. When I went «under» and could no longer pay my mortgages or bills due to the rate increases in the ARMs, I found myself facing bankruptcy… very scary in my profession.
During all of this I was transferred to Northern Virginia, and with no other recourse, started researching bankruptcy attorneys. One of those that I found was Robert Brandt. I was impressed that Robert didn’t require me to complete a bunch of paperwork before meeting with him. I was more impressed that I would meet with him and not «a partner» or paralegal that worked for him. (Later, I learned later how important this was to be). Having dealt with attorneys (assistant United States attorneys) often, I had an idea of what to expect when I met with him the first time. I cannot begin to tell you how impressed I was with his professionalism and his ability to put me at ease (bankruptcy is not easy). He listened to my spiel on why I was facing bankruptcy, scribbled down a bunch of notes — and this was classic — leaned back in his chair and stated that I couldn’t file a Chapter 13 (too much debt) or a Chapter 7 (too much income). I was floored. I think he saw the look on my face and quickly stated that he would go over everything again — not to worry — and would soon get back to me.
I heard from Robert within a day. He stated he had a couple ideas and wanted to go over things with me again. Of course, I quickly scheduled a meeting with him. He put a plan together, which required me to do some work but thought I could file a Chapter 7 if everything fell into place. Due to my debt, a Chapter 13 would not be possible. The short story is… his plan worked. I filed a Chapter 7, which was approved and am now able to move on with my life — having learned a lesson, of course. More importantly, the back story —
I had to move quickly to get a Deed-​in-​Lieu (DiL) approved on my primary home. Although, Robert was not my primary attorney handling the DiL, he was much more active in facilitating the necessary paperwork. When my «real estate» attorney would not immediately answer or return my calls, Robert would. Once the DiL was approved, Robert sought the proper affirmations/​order from a bankruptcy judge that allowed my bankruptcy to go continue. Bottom line is this. While pursuing my bankruptcy, Robert foresaw every curve ball that could come my way and developed a positive response. He was phenomenal. When the day came for me and my wife to go to bankruptcy court, my wife (never a traffic ticket in her life) was a wreck. I wasn’t able to put her at ease. Robert, in a few short minutes, did. During our bankruptcy proceedings — while we waited — Robert sat next to us and made sure we were doing okay. And maybe most importantly, I noted that Robert had a very good rapport with the folks that sat on the other side of table from us… the Trustees. I believe Robert is very highly regarded within the Northern Virginia judicial system… truly important.
Every time I called Robert I either spoke directly to him or he called me back within the work day. I have a close friend (in South Florida) who filed bankruptcy the same time as I — for much the same reasons. Unfortunately, my friend chose a large Miami, Florida, bankruptcy firm. As the bankruptcy progressed he found it very frustrating that he could only speak to a paralegal and not the attorney with whom he initially met. His bankruptcy process was at the opposite likert scale as mine. It is a huge help to be able to speak to your attorney when you (and not he or she) feels it important.
Robert is super intelligent, personable — and maybe as important — has a small firm. This means you get great customer service. He’s also honestly empathetic (ask my wife). I’ve dealt with attorneys during most of my adult employment and can honestly say that he is one of the best. I cannot put my personal information here, but through Robert, will be happy to personally speak to you regarding my experiences with him as my attorney. My bankruptcy was far from routine, probably one of the most difficult he’s had, and he never wavered. He is truly brilliant.

I contacted Robert Brandt for a warrant in debt issue after searching the internet for hours. His explanation of the process was clear, he didn t use any obscure legal jargon and was prompt and thorough in all his communications with me.
