Taco Grande

Have been a patron since it’s opening in the 80s but today was just too much. Annh (owner) has been overcharging me for years but I ignored. Today was the last time she will get my money and I’m tired of seeing all the cock roaches.

Unilocal removed my last review of Taco Grande because it wasn’t helpful. I thought it was helpful. But here, I will try to be more helpful.
I disliked it. I thought the food was gross. I agree with the other reviewer that said the ground beef was mush. It reminded me of a place I might see on Hell’s Kitchen. I wouldn’t return. It needs to decide if it is a quick stop Mexican joint or a NYC deli. It can’t be both. Pick one and be GOOD at the one thing you decide to be. Not bad at both.
And frankly, I’m starting to wonder if the only reason they have such good reviews is because all the negative reviews are being labeled as «not hepful» and being removed.

Little taco shop – I love you! Cheap eats, ample clean seating, and the food was hot and tasty. Will definitely be back when I’m in the neighborhood

Love this place. Best milk shakes around and the owners are so sweet and they’ll remember your names forever! Kids love to go there!

Where else can you get american, mexican, italian, asian, and ICE cream, all in the same place??? This place is a hallmark of the mount Vernon area

This place is a staple in the mount Vernon community. I have been going here since I was a kid. They remember everyone’s name and everyone’s order. They are super friendly and the food is pretty good! Love them!!!

So, I ordered 3 tacos from them and a drink for $ 5. I asked for one chicken and 2 steak. The chicken was nothing special, but the steak tacos were pretty god. Plus, I don’t know if it came from a jar, but the salsa complimented everything nicely! I would recommend if you’re near. But then again I’s always looking for the little hole in the wall places to eat.
Edit: I spoke with the owner and the salsa is made there. We’re now in first name basis which is pretty cool. I’ve had lunch here about 6 times and the same senior citizens are there too, and they come everyday. Don’t be put off by the look of the kitchen, this food is great!

The owners are the nicest around and will remember what you order after your first visit. Sandwiches are great and the fries are cooked to enjoy. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone in the area.

The 2 sisters who own it are the sweetest around. For the money they make the best sandwiches in the Mt Vernon area.

I’ve been coming here since I was a child and it has always been delicious. this is a no frills place to eat. the ladies who own the place are angels and they take the time to get to know their customers! will love this place foreverrrr!

Friendly staff but the food is Meh. I had 3 chicken tacos which were fairly disappointing. Albeit it only cost $ 5 so it was super cheap. I got what I paid for essentially.

The ladies working here are super sweet, and made waiting for my food a very pleasant experience. I was visiting a friend in the area, and when I was craving a burrito and she was craving a steak and cheese sub, she said I should go to this place because they have both! Interesting.
Welp, long story short: the food sucked. My friend enjoyed her steak and cheese and she orders from here regularly, but it didn’t look very tasty to me. My burrito was definitely edible, but I asked to upgrade to steak instead of ground beef and they charged me $ 2. No problem. Except, when I bite into it I realize the «steak» they used is the same thinly shaved beef that they use for the sub. Not what I was expecting. I did get nachos and cheese, and those were good. The cheese sauce was hot and flavorful.
Because there’s so many other places to get subs and burritos around here, I probably would not return here. But, if I do happen to make my way here, I would try the ground beef or chicken burrito instead…

I ordered beef tacos today from this establishment and received tacos that were not ground beef. When I called the establishment back the lady rushed me off the phone when I told her my tacos tasted nothing like ground beef. The meat was a mushy consistency and had grissle all throughout the meat. I will not be purchasing from this restaurant again

Awesomeness in a strip mall! This is the place that you go into a couple of times and they remember your order from then on, no kidding! It is has the best attributes of the whole-​in-​the-​wall restaurant. The food is simple and delicious, they shakes are fantastic, the prices are like you’ve time warped back to the 80’s good, and the people (they are there all the time must be the owners) are super nice and friendly. This is the place you want in your community, just a fantastic place to eat.

Whenever we are out running errands we try to arrange our schedule so we can go to Taco Grande for lunch. Great food, wonderful people, and very reasonable prices. Joan and Lynne

This place is Great! Try the Milkshakes and Steak and cheese Subs.

I happened to be in the area and I was looking for a Mexican place to eat. I know there are several Mexican joints on the main roads, but I tend to enjoy the greasy spoon, side street establishments more. When you walk in it has a deli vibe with beverage firdges on the right and the counter straight ahead with a Korean woman manning the counter.
Based on the name I logically assumed this was a Mexican restaurant, but Taco Grande seems to have every type of food you can imagine. I have no problem with a diverse menu, and if the staff can prepare the food well the broad menu is a huge plus in my book.
We ordered the enchilada special which includes an enchilada with a side of rice and a 20oz pop for $ 5.75. We left the restaurant no longer being hungry, but the taste was below average. For the cost of the meal it met my expectations and I would come back here again opposed to patronizing a chain. If I had a hankering for Mexican and I would skip Taco Grande in the future.

I’ve loved Taco Grande since I was a kid. The ladies running the place are the greatest. Such a great place to grab a bite with some friends. The menu is all over the place, but use this to your advantage! It doesn’t matter what you want, they will make you whatever you find yourself craving.

The menu’s all over the place: tacos, sandwiches, salads, burgers, hotdogs, etc. Nice couple of ladies running the place, but the tacos are pretty much what you’d find at Taco Bell around the corner, only a little more expensive. Not bad, not good, but with Taco Jalisco and a couple other tacquerias right around the corner, I can’t think of a reason to come here.

Satisfied the appetite, but not my favorite taco joint. The beef was mixed with beans. I probably will pick Tacos El Costallia for a better tasting taco next time.
