My first visit to Sora Ethiopian Market on Duke St. Alexandria. Parking on the side of building, enter from the service road. This is a family managed small store for Ethiopian Café — Carry out. Few tables and seats available to dine in. I ordered random choice of Injera Bread with beef tripe and tongue for carry out. Price was $ 11.00. Delivered quite fast. I am American originally from Asia, not an Ethiopian.(I had tried several big and small Ethiopian restaurants in this area) People Adis and her son Nate answered my questions pleasantly. I recommend any one interested in ethnic food to try Sora because food is fresh, well done, tasty and the price is right. The store is clean and neat. I will return to Sora again and again. I just wish the sign of this store to be more attractive and visible.

The food and service were great! Wish there was more veggies with the spicy beef I ordered. I did appreciate how it wasn’t heavy and didn’t had an after taste. I eat mostly fresh produce and am into a holistic lifestyle for the most part, so my taste buds are accustomed to clean food. Felt clean to me.

Sora is both an Ethiopian market as well as a carry-out/restaurant, located off of Duke Street. It seems so unassuming from the outside, part of a small little strip, a few doors down from Pizza Hut. However, when you walk in, the place itself is bright and cheery. My friend and I were craving for some Ethiopian, so I remember having this place bookmarked. The menu offers breakfast(that is served until 11:30AM; kinche, foul, dullet, quanta fir-fir, scrambled eggs, etc.), salads, appetizers, entrees(such as collared greens, yellow fin tuna, whole tilapia, etc.), tibs, kitfo, vegetarian options, as well as pastas. My friend had the Derek Tibs(chunks of lamb sauteed with onions, garlic, and extra jalapenos; these were pretty okay, and they were not game-y at the least); I had the Goden Tibs(prime short ribs and tender beef cubed with sauteed onions, garlic, tomato, jalapenos, seasoning, and injera; I opted out of the tomato, but this was SOGOOD!!! The beef was cut into long strips and cooked perfectly; very flavorful, and the sauteed onions and the spice from the jalapenos made this so good — no need for any sauce!); and, the Qwanta Fir-Fir(homemade beef jerky in either spicy(which we opted) or a non-spicy butter sauce, mixed with injera; we both weren’t fans of this as it was injera bread mixed in, and the focus was more tomato paste; also, it seemed as if there were hardly any of the ribs or the beef!). We also had a side of the collared greens and the cabbage — both were good, but I was more of a fan of the cabbage as it was crispy and delicious! Ms. Addis was so unbelievably SWEET, and she really took care of us: D The meal was definitely filling, and we were surprised at the amount of injera bread and the meats that were served(!!!). Definitely a hidden gem, if you’re craving for Ethiopian, check out Sora — no need to trek out into DC! :D +Goden Tibs(!!!) +cabbage(!!!) +ask for Ms. Addis: D +tight parking(additional down the ‘hill’)

I am a regular at this excellent hole-in-the-wall. The food is always delicious and generously portioned, and the staff is always friendly. Their gomen besiga is a must try! Bring a group and sample their entire menu.

My favorite Ethiopian restaurant. I came here pretty much once a week while I lived in the area and go back every time I’m home. Good food and incredibly friendly staff. They also have a small grocery section that includes injera, bottled Ethiopian seltzer water, and a few types of pulses and spices.

This is a new place in the area. I had never tried Ethiopian food and the staff could not have been more accommodating and friendly. They patiently helped me select something from the menu, assisted in describing the dish and how best to eat it. The food was quite delicious, spicy as promised for this dish(Yebeg Awaze Tibs) but tasty and plentiful. I’ll return for sure

This is one of the best Ethiopian Restaurants in the area. The vegetarian platter was awesome and the Godon Ribs were excellent. The staff are polite and friendly. We will be back.
