I used to live a few blocks from Royal Thai. My neighbors and I would make this our go to on a daily basis. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. The food is amazing. I’ve tried most of the menu and have to say, I haven’t had a bad dish!

I came here during lunch time. I waited 20 minutes for sushi then asked my waitress how much longer it would be. She said another 20 minutes. They need to hire more people for lunch time because that’s a ridiculous wait time for 2 spicy tuna rolls. I canceled my order and had to skip lunch.

My husband and I had a lovely evening at this restaurant! I wanted sushi and he wanted Thai so this was perfect! The prices are reasonable and the food was fabulous! We got there at 9ish and we were practically the only ones there(pretty sure we got there just before closing so we tried to make it quick) Try didn’t treat us like we were holding them up, which I appreciate! They were very friendly, checked on us a few amount of times and they were very accommodating! My sushi was good; the sashimi was even better! My husband got the seafood panang curry and he loved it! We also tried Thai ice tea for the first time and it was delicious! We will definitely be back, even if it’s just for some more thai ice tea!

The wonton soup was awesome, very flavorful! I also had the chicken drunken noodles(asked for just a little spicy) and the spice was just right for me, not as good as the soup, but I enjoyed it.

Came by here on a cold windy day… Needed a relaxing warm restaurant/bar to chill by myself and eat a bite while enjoying a couple glasses of wine. This place was within walking distance to my hotel. The sushi chef was out(3:00 pm –4:30) So I ordered my fav… Thai food The beef salad or what I have come to refer to as «yum Neu» was very flavorful! Meat was delicious and veggies were decent(could have been more fresh) The Pinot Grigio was very good! Service was excellent! I would come back if back in the area! I’m from houston I wouldn’t drive extra time from DC to come here But if ever near this area of Alexandria… I would come again!

I frequent this restaurant for the Bangkok sizzling steak, Fried Tilapia filet and other dishes. Speedy service and fresh food! Since they moved to this place never fails. Definitely worth checking out.

I love this place! Wonderful food and very friendly service. I really like the basil chicken and basil talapia. I went to Royal Thai every Friday for lunch(for many years) until my office moved to DC. I still make the trek back into Alexandria as often as possible to eat there. You’ll really enjoy it!

Royal Thai is my favorite Thai restaurant in Northern VA. Superb traditional and modern variety. Pad Thai, Green Curry, Spicy Green Bean, and Fresh Garden Rolls are wonderful. Fast friendly service. The owners, Phil and Kem, always take time to say hello and make sure I have everything I want. On the north end of Olde Towne, with plenty of parking all around. Try it, you’ll love this place!

Bad delivery — I got crab in my chicken Thai entrée. They called me to tell me that they have no crab on their Thai menu… Yet, it’s right there. Highly allergic, but no consideration. Also, I never get soy sauce(obvious right?) even when I plead for it!!! Bad bad bad. Ask me for more info.

Disappointing. The papaya salad was not spicy as it should be. And the kaprow that I asked for thai-spicy(4 chili according to the waiter) came out as if I had asked for mild. The food was ok but not very authentic or what I had asked for.

Love this place. Been here twice now for lunch and they’ve given great service both times. The meals were wonderful. My go to place from now on!

Very convenient location, as I work down the block from it. The staff was friendly and it was a beautiful day. Their patio on a nice day is clearly a favorite. I placed a to go order and it was done and smoking hot in 10−15mins. The problem was the taste of the food. The fried rice was just«eh». There was absolutely nothing memorable about it nor did I really want to finish it. I had maybe 6 bites until deciding to toss it. The chicken santay had an oh-kay flavor, but the chicken was way overcooked. I wouldn’t really eat here again unless I was starving, but even that would have to be extreme hunger.

We order lunch for the office. I had the Pan-Fried Duck(Kaprow). We shared the Pumpkin Custard and Ceviche Roll. My duck was kinda tuff and the coating was soggy by the time it got to my office. The Ceviche Roll was amazing. The Pumpkin Custard was succulent. There were taste of the coconut milk, then vanilla and then pumpkin. I would go there just for the pumpkin custard. The only down side to our meal is that we ask for our food to be mild and it still had some heat to it. I would recommend this place to anyone and will order from there again.

Food is great! Owner is so terrible I stopped going for three months. Couldn’t stay away too long, though. If I see the owner, I’ll pick a different place to eat.

Good Thai food. I had the red curry with chicken and I thought it was pretty good. There was eggplant and string beans and plenty of chicken. Would make a trip back if I’m ever in the area again.

We order take-out from here all the time but today is the first time I actually had the opportunity to dine in at the new location. Sadly, I wish I had stuck to our to go ordering. The food was good and the outdoor patio was pleasant but the service was terrible. 1) I requested ice water with lime. When it came with lemon I requested lime again. The waitress then told me they do not have limes for drinks because they are too expensive. The only use lime with the food. I asked if I could pay extra and buy a lime but she declined. 2) We ordered two salads and were splitting an order of shrimp drunken noodles. The waiter brought out two plates and we thanked him for splitting the order for us. He came back a few minutes later while my friend had her fork in hand to remove the plate she was eating from. «I brought out two orders instead of one» he said with his hand on her plate! We did not want food we were not paying for yanking the plate mid-bite? 3) We ordered the shrimp drunken noodles but the brought seafood noodles instead — full of squid, mussels, scallops, and only two shrimp. Neither of us like mussels or are big fans of squid so this was a bit of a bust.

I’ve eaten here a few times and have had different experiences each time. The first time, I ordered drunken noodles and they were delicious. The second time, they were average. The delivery is quick though, and the curry is pretty good. Points off for my last delivery order when they left the chicken and mushrooms out of my chicken tom yum soup; so I basically just got broth. It’ll do in a pinch, but if you can make it to one of the Thai places on King St., you’ll be happier with your meal.

Came here for dinner, had a California roll for an appetizer and Chicken Pad Thai for an entrée. The food was great! Good service and they spread the roll and Pad Thai out so not all the food came at once. I arrived at 7pm and shared the restaurant with 12 other people. I dined alone, but didn’t feel awkward or like I was taking up a table. Food was good, better than anticipated by some of the reviews. Sushi was good for DC. Beer list is a bit shallow, but that was okay. The presentation on the Pad Thai was unique… Picture a very thin omelette over the top, not only does this present well, buy it kept everything underneath warm through my meal! Genius! If I am in the area, I will definitely revisit. There is also a never ending stream of people doing carry-out. If the locals support it, it can’t be half bad!

Second time ordering from here. Delivery has been fast both times. Their wonton soup is phenomenal. My goodness. The best I’ve ever had. I should have ordered two. Both times I’ve had the chicken kaprow. Not the best ever but still good. Also ordered seafood fried rice. Wasn’t my dish but their rice dishes are the only thing I’ve tasted here that I don’t care for. Bland. Otherwise overall good food & friendly service.

I have been to many Thai restaurants and this is one of the best in the Alexandria area. The food is delicious and athentic. Staff is very friendly. The food is delivered promptly unless you happen to walk in after a large party. I recommend pad thai, drunken noodles, spicy eggplant, green curry, and whole crispy fish.

This was a takeout order. I’ll give them 5, though they gave me takeout with no napkins, no fork, just chop sticks. Lol. It’s okay, helped to eat the spicy food slower. The best drunken noodle ever, and my ex is Thai. So good. You know it’s good and spicy when it nearly burns your face off and you can’t stop eating. The wonton soup. I’d never had wonton soup except from Chinese takeout… holy moley. Spinach was delicious and crunchy, the wonton balls or whatever were shrimp and chicken. Everything was so good and so fresh. I will definitely order from them again. Delicious. Also, I’m picky and asked for weird things like a side of scallions and other things and they did it… And the order taking lady was polite and patient. Great place. Big thumbs up.

What happened here? Three subpar meals over a two month span leads me to conclude the problems we’ve encountered are not isolated. They include: Incredibly slow service, botched orders, food served at room temperature(i.e., not just out of the oven/wok) and food that simply does not taste fresh. Too bad, we once loved this place, but can no longer recommend it. 2 stars instead of 1 because of good meals now way in the past. But, really, it should be 1(«meh, I’ve experienced better» would be an improvement over our past couple of experiences.) . Don’t believe me? Sort the reviews by date; uniformly bad marks for the past 6 months… except for the guy who thinks he got a cheesesteak here!

In town on business I was stoked to discover this place tucked away below some offices literally right across the street from my lodging. I was in Alexandria for 3 nights, and two of them Caphe Banh Mi got my business. I wish I had walked the 12 blocks to make the hat trick. Oh well, live and learn. I went in the the dark establishment and was prompted by the hostess to sit at the bar since I was flying solo. I asked if I could sit outside and she seemed a bit annoyed but seated me there anyway. It was several minutes before a menu or any type of life form visited me out there, at least the crisp fall evening was peasant enough. I went with two standards, Tom Yum Chicken soup and Pad See Ew noodles with chicken. The Tom Yum came out hot and attractive in its white earthenware bowl but the flavor was sub par. The broth was quite a bit saltier than normal and the chicken was overcooked and tough. The mushrooms were the canned straw type, still hanging on to that metallic flavor. Disappointing as this dish is one of my favorite comfort foods. The Pad See Ew was really, really bad. The noodles were tender in the middle but dried and crispy on the ends, obviously had been sitting around for a while. The vegetables were OK but the chicken was the same tough white meat from the Tom Yum. Worst of all, and what made the dish almost inedible was the intense egg flavor mixed with a raw fish sauce taste that overwhelmed the entire dish. In addition, and maybe I’m sensitive to this but the dish was WAY overseasoned. For a spot in old town that has unlimited tourist traffic I was expecting much better.

Originally wanted to have our ordered delivered but unfortunately they don’t deliver in DC(only 10mins away from Alexandria) Anywho we called in the order for pick up. The guy didn’t speak English very well but was very friendly and eventually understood me :) The order was ready in 15mins but we took awhile getting there cz my friend had to breast pump before we left the house lol. As we get the restaurant, they called my friend on her cell as I walked into the door and I said I’m here I’m Dawn. They were afraid we weren’t going to show up. Our fault. They were nice, friendly and had our order ready. I ordered a Thai tea for the ride back home. It was ok. They didn’t have boba :(and that’s the best part. We get home and prep the dinner table. Ready to chow down on my: chicken pad see ew: kind of dry & bland. Volcano roll: made completely different than how sushiya(in San Diego) makes it. Instead of the salmon being cooked via torch with spicy mayo, this place puts shredded salmon mixed in spicy mayo… A little dry. Spider roll: it was good. Made differently but tastes the same wherever I go to order this :) I got full after 5bites. Saving the rest for lunch tomorrow :)
