I find it odd that New York & Company is here instead of down the road inside Pentagon City Mall, but I also appreciate that having it here means I don’t have to pay for parking… I think this store is relatively small, but it gets the job done when I need new business clothing for work. I don’t really purchase the casual clothes, because I feel like for casual wear, I could spend less elsewhere. I can justify spending the prices here for work attire. What I really like is that if you order clothes online and find that they don’t fit or don’t appear as it did online, that you can return them in store. It’s really easy, and often times I find myself wandering the store as I’m returning an item, and end up exchanging.

I like New York & Company. The clothes are cute and they fit me well, and there’s always a deal. But, this location is awful. They have the worst staff ever. You can never get any help and if you do the staff is so rude. It takes at least 30 minutes to check out, maybe more. I once spent 20 minutes just with the cashier, to return one item. And the store is consistently understaffed. How hard is it to hire 5018-year-olds so that when ten don’t show up to work one day, there’s more on-call?

The clothes are so low quality. But, at 50% off, sometimes they worth wearing ½ season and then throwing away. As someone else said, «love hate relationship». They usually only have 2 people actively ringing sales(though managers like to congregate and joke around behind the registers too). Two would suffice BUT they have to try to sell u on a credit card EVERy time… And god forbid someone says«yes» because there is no one but THAT clerk to do the paperwork! I stood 4th in line yesterday and counted 17 minutes and that one clerk STILL was only to the ringing up part(total sale: $ 31). That left one other clerk to ring the rest of us up. And she was in no hurry. That isn’t the first time I’ve been stuck behind a credit card applicant.

This location is pretty big and has always had a great selection — lots of sizes(almost always has my size), tons of colors, and great prices. I wouldn’t say that their clothes are the best quality, but for the price, they’re trendy and look very nice. But since I’m not reviewing the company, I’ll stick to this location’s specifics. Ample parking(it’s in a huge shopping plaza), good selection, but TERRIBLE customer service. Just about every time I’m there I have to wait for a while to get into a fitting room(and the fitting rooms are filthy — they need to sweep much more), and I always have to wait a LONG time to check out(there’s usually one girl ringing out, and then 2 or 3 who appear to be standing around doing nothing). It’s in a good location and they have good deals, so I’ll be back. Just wish the customer service were better!

I haven’t been in this store since it was called Lerner’s. But today, I heard some women talking about the 70% off sale and decided to swing by. You guessed it. It was up to 70% off. I did manage to snag a pair of brown pants for 40% off and a watch for 50% off. Wide selection of sizes, colors, fabrics. Reasonable prices to begin with, then tack on the sale, wow! Helpful associates. Clean well-lit dressing room. I’m a fan.

I like this store a lot, especially this location. I’ve been shopping at NY&C for years for work clothes. I went on Saturday because I was in the area and a new line was out. I got about five work outfits and some accessories. The sales staff was friendly and helpful. I saw a shirt I wanted but they didn’t have it in my size so I asked the sales associate if she could check in the back and kept shopping. I then found a jacket I liked but not in my size, when the sales associate handed me the shirt I’d requested, I asked her to check the back for the jacket in my size which she did with no complaint. They do always have sales or some type of promotion, which can make the process of checking out take awhile, but this Saturday I checked right out. Overall I like this location the best.

I first walked into a New York & Company last year — I found great deals on pants appropriate for the workplace. The one thing I really like about this store is that pants come in different lengths — short, average and tall. Each pair eventually shrank in the wash so I’ve been very wary of the materials and construction of their clothing. But the clothes are such a cheap deal when you hit their sales it’s almost okay that the shirt fell apart after two wears or your pant hem is two inches higher because it only cost a few bucks. I happened upon one of their stores in Boston and curiosity got the best of me. For $ 6 a piece, I found a blazer, a button down top, a dressy tank to wear under a blazer and a black sequined dress. The second I was back in DC I was telling everyone that they’re having a $ 6 sale. Unfortunately, I didn’t find any pieces that I liked at this location. The service at all locations has been poor to non-existent but this store is especially unpleasant. There is no help on the sales floor and you have to hunt down a sales person to get access into the fitting rooms. Where are all these salespeople you wonder? Congregated behind the counter, chatting it up with one another. So you would think at least the check-out line is short — it’s always 5 people deep and moves like molasses. No matter what store you’re at, they have 3 – 4 salespeople behind the counter with one register on. Argh. Besides shoddy materials and craftsmanship, the sizing here runs large so whatever your size is, your NY&C size is one size smaller. The cuts can also be very unflattering. The shirts are very long so if you have a long torso and arms, you should shop here. I am on the petite end of the spectrum so about 15% of the XS clothing actually fits. Don’t make the mistake of signing up for their rewards program — you will receive about 2 emails per day. It’s terribly annoying. In fact, I’m going to unsubscribe right after I post this review. I definitely have a love-hate relationship with this store. They do a great job of merchandising and the color palettes I’ve seen from season-to-season are very wearable — elements that are very effective at getting me into the store. It’s the quality and service issues that make me wonder why the heck I ever walked in. Throw in price and I start to justify that the lack of service is okay, that I really didn’t mind having to crawl on my elbows under the dressing room door to unlock it myself since I couldn’t find a salesperson to help me, that I’ve spent an eternity in a line with one register open. You need a lot of patience to shop here but who knows, you might find some trendy pieces for $ 6 or $ 10 to wear out a few times. They are always running sales but I would caution spending more than $ 10 on anything at NY&C.
