Fish Market Restaurant

During a day trip to Old Town Alexandria we stumbled into Fish Market for lunch after wandering around the waterfront. We knew we wanted to have seafood for lunch, and the old-​timey looking restaurant caught our eye. The outside of the restaurant has a lot of character, along with the inside which has probably never been updated since it was opened – but that adds to its charm.
You can choose to sit in a dining room or in the bar area, which I found to be a nice option especially if your team is playing, or if you bring the kids.
Ordering was a tough decision as they had all my favorites on the menu including oyster po boys, lobster rolls and lobster tacos. The prices are average, and they offer a lot of lunch specials. I chose the lobster roll which was on the lunch special with old bay potato chips for a very reasonable $ 12.95. The lobster roll was delicious, a tad on the small size, but no complaints with the price.
Service was very fast, and our server was friendly. We never were without a full glass of water, and she even gave us some suggestions of where to walk around Old Town.
This is not your hip or lavish spot in Old Town Alexandria, but it is a great option if you are craving some good, fresh seafood after exploring the waterfront.

A location at the touristy end of the central King Street in Alexandria — yet a decent location for some fish centric food. The place looks like it has not been upgraded in quite some time, but that adds to the flavor.
To the flavor adding is as well the crusty old waiter, that seems to be part of the place since the dawn of time.
NOT adding to the flavor is the Fish Market Pilsner that has the color of gnat’s pee and not even the faintest hint of Pilsener taste. Nontheless — I have been there twice (though better locations are in the are to dine and have a drink).

OH, this is a sports bar. Didn’t realize that when I got the recommendation. Naturally, it happened to be a Sunday during playoffs when we stumbled in. Great.
Well, I noticed my 2 favorite things on the menu: lobster roll and oyster poboy! Already off to a great start. Plenty of great beer on tap. I went with my oyster poboy, which had large oysters and a nice remoloude. Everything was pretty tasty, service was prompt, and atmosphere was very lively, as the Skins were playing and things were going well. Certainly not the best poboy of my life but for a sports bar, it’s not too bad.
If you’re into SPORTS and pretty decent pub food in old town, this is your place. I would probably only come here against my will next time to watch whatever sports game is on.

Good food, is great, but really come here for the enormous drinks.
If you’re looking for a great pregame spot this is it. It’s fun and a great mixed age crowd which is awesome.

J’ai pris les huîtres sur écailles en entrées, c’était bon. Le plat principal l’assiette grillé de l’Admiral. Les crevettes étaient petites et trop cuites. Le saumon était bon et les pétoncles goûtaient pas grand chose. La petite coquille remplie avec du crabe c’était bon. Donc au final assiette un peu décevante. Pour le prix j’ai déjà vu mieux et pour un resto qui s’appelle Fish Market je m’attendais à plus que ça. Nous étions un groupe dans une salle du 2ième étage donc tranquille. Service très bon et rapide.

There was street parking or garage parking (around the corner). The location is quintessential Old Town Alexandria, next to multiple Resturants, across from an ice cream parlor.
As a party of 2 on a Wednesday night at 7:30 PM we were seated right away. There are three dining rooms, one upstairs «Captains mess» the quietest dining hall. The second is downstairs and to your left. The last is the default sitting around the bar, tables around the bar, or booths. There’s an intense fish smell in this option bc of an open tank and its the loudest of three. We chose the middle option.
The waiter was nice and attentive. I got the cod bites and lobster bisque. The cod bites are like fish chicken nuggets– highly recommend although you only get 8. Lobster bisque was AMAZING. I got the seafood cob salad nix the cheese and olives. I also got a side of sweet potato fries.
So, the menu has two sides I didn’t look at the back where the big stuff was but I can’t wait to go back and get more!
