New Name: Royal Palace UNDERNEWMANAGEMENT The food was fresh as so was the bread. I don’t know how long the new owners have been doing business but they were rusty and it took 15/20mins in order for the food to come out. The gentlement at the register doesn’t know what he’s doing. One negative thing I will say is, do not use your credit card. They have charged my account twice. My relative expereienced the same situation.

Sadly, this place used to be one of my favorite kabob spots until they recently changed management. I just ordered two dishes to give them a fair chance– one ground beef and one chicken. Unfortunately, the food was cold and disgusting. The bread was stale, their variety of chutney was bland and grainy. I’m extremely disappointed and this will be my last visit to Duke Kabob.

This place under their new management of royal palace is HORRIBLE. I went there, paid for two orders of food and they only gave me one. When I got home, I called them and they admitted their mistake but we’re not willing to drive the one mile to my house to deliver the food that they did not give me. Their customer service is horrible. If you aren’t ready to provide good service then don’t open. They really deserve zero stars.

I really miss this Iranian Kabob. Unfortunately, as of Monday, 11/25/2013, they have a new management and now it’s called Royal Palace Kabob(an Afghan Kabob place). After I was told that they were going to have the same cook, same great food, and that nothing will change except management, I hesitated and decided to give them a try. All I can say is Royal Palace Kabob SUCKS!!! I want Duke Kabob BACK! I have been going to Duke Kabob for over 14 years and miss the great tasting Iranian food. Nothing will ever compare to them, not even Moby Dick’s! I’m really hoping that they open so where else because I refuse to try anything else. The food is completely different and doesn’t taste the same.

Good Kabob place. From what I understand they will be closing soon, due to a lease issue.

Get the green sauce and put it in your hummus! Love this place and so glad they are getting to stay. Nothing fancy, but everything is fresh and consistently good, good, good. We go here at least twice per month.

I’ve been to a lot of kebab places around here and this one is the worse. First off the service sucks they got my order wrong after waiting 30 minutes for one order of kebabs and they were not even busy. The rice lacks seasoning and the chicken which I didn’t even order was really dry. Not a good value I would just drive 1 mile down the street to the house of kebab they are way better stay away from this place. Also I think they add water to the hummus it’s like a tasteless slurry the place must be struggling.

We only discovered this place 5 months ago and love eating here. It is always consistent and the Kabobs are the best I have had yet in the area. We found out tonight they are being forced to leave as the new lease holder does not wan‘t to negotiate a new lease. Please sign the petition to save Duke Kabob!

One of the worst kabob places I’ve ever eaten at. It was way too much money for such mediocre food. The rice has no flavor, the meat is fatty, and the grape leaves are slimy!

One of the best kabob places I’ve ever been to. The chicken kabobs were great

The Chicken and Kubideh kabobs were ONPOINT. So juicy and tender. The veggies, bread, and tomato/cucumber salad… all delicious. I wish I had found this place sooner, as I’ve lived here for almost a year. Staff was very friendly as well! I will definitely be returning.

Food was ok tried the spicy chicken kabob, to pricey for the amount of chicken, gave mostly rice that tastes heavy in butter

I have been going here since 2006 and LOVE it! Also, in the little market area you can find great spices and seasonings.

I don’t know what’s up with the bad reviews from people on here… especially the one that says they are«mean to children.» My daughter has been to Duke Kabob with me many times and they have always been very nice to her. Even going out of their way to hand her drink to her, and make conversation with my daughter. This is BYFAR one of the BEST Kabob houses in NOVA! Everything is so delicious. I LOVE their Salmon Kabobs with the rice and grilled veggies. I always get their Yogurt Cucumber sauce to spread on my bread and then load it up with Salmon and veggies and top it off with the green chilies. SOOOFREAKINGDELICIOUS!!! Makes my mouth water now just thinking about it. I wish I still lived in NOVA so I could frequent Duke Kabob’s. I haven’t found a Kabob house in Hampton Roads that is even close. :-(

It’s not great, but it’s not bad either. It’s a pretty straight forward kabob joint that gives you a serving of rice and grilled tomato wedges. It’s not very creative at all. I’ve gone here for lunch a few times and I don’t really have any complaints about the place at all, but it’s not somewhere that’s really going to «wow» you either. It is a little on the pricey side for what you get.

I have no idea why this place has so many negative reviews. I have been here a million times and have had great customer service and food each and every time. I always get the same thing: Kubideh, hummus and salad shirazi. It’s all amazing and so is the rice, bread and green hot sauce that comes with your meal. The staff is quiet, but they are always very friendly. You can buy bottles of their delicious, green hot sauce to take home. They also have a market in the restaurant with packaged food and Middle Eastern cookware, hookahs, etc. for sale. Whenever I’m in the area, I always make a stop at Duke Kabab. It’s delicious and it’s also reasonably priced.

Wait staff is a bit on the condescending side. People like to take their time looking through menus; this is not jeopardy Mr. Trebek-istan! Price is pretty high for food that is very much below par. Meat is dry and food as a whole is bland. Hummus is average at best. There are much better options out there including Halal Kabob House right across the street!

I was suggested to come here from someone who stated that it was better than Moby Dick which is my all time favorite fast food kabob place. The atmosphere is pretty spacious and the service was good. But the kabobs just weren’t as delicious. I didn’t really care for the food as much as I do with Moby Dick however it wasn’t bad either. It was decent, but nothing I would write home about — that’s for sure.

I almost feel wrong writing a review of a joint like a kabab house. As someone who doesn’t eat meat, kabab palaces just aren’t my friend. That being said, I *have* encountered kabab kingdoms that at least attempt to put something halfway interesting on the menu for non-meat eaters: usually some sort of fish kebab, a daal-like lentil stew, even shrimp ‘babs. Duke Kabab has two choices for us: a veggie kabab and a salmon. I loathe salmon, so veggie is my only choice here. I’m not one to ding a place just ‘cuz it doesn’t cuddle with my self-imposed restrictive diet, tho. So I can say with confidence that Duke House of Kabab’s three-stars are well-earned, each and every one. Or lack of one. Ambiance in this place is super«meh.» It’s on the bottom floor of an office building, so it’s not the Ritz to begin with. Service is there. That’s the only way I can describe it: there. It’s not great, it’s not poor, it’s just fine service. The food is decent. My uninspired onion, pepper, and tomato kabab was OK. I do love cooked tomato. The rice was a little dry without the spread-stuff on it. Husband’s lamb kabab was fine. But the accompanying bread is pretty good and made a nice vehicle for my veggie medley to get to my mouth. Bonus points for the feta on the side, too. I love any and all kinds of cheese so big ups, Duke House. Does the addition of feta to my meal explain why the kababs are a bit on the pricey side, tho???

This place serves you the bread first along with parsley and cheese while you wait for the rest of the meal… good stuff :) This place has now utilized their store front space as a grocery store that contains all sorts of nuts, oils, tahini, spices, teas, candies, and rice. they had a few snacks and pastries also.
