I read the reviews before I went here and was warned– Jae came to my house and was pretty pushy about taking my couch with him but I had told him before he even came over that I was getting quotes from other upholsterers. The fabric wasn’t delivered yet anyways. My couch is vintage mid-century and had been re-upholstered by the previous owner by Best Upholstery. The fabric was pink and had some sun fading but was in perfect condition and had been done expertly. Once the fabric came in I called him because he had the best price and I could clearly see his previous work. He came and picked it up and it was done and brought back to my house within a week. He also brought back all of my extra fabric. The upholstery job is perfect. It was the fastest turn around I have ever seen. It was worth the communication/cultural challenges to deal with him. At least in my experience he was very honest and fair. I will use Best Upholstery again.

Be warned! Their Web site boasts that they will come to your home and provide you with a free estimate, but this is a way for them to get into your home and bully you to commit. I waited for 3 hours on a Saturday for the rep to come to my place to provide me with a free estimate. When he finally called to say that he was on his way and that it would be about a half hour before he arrived, I rescheduled the appointment for 5:00PM that Monday. I arrived to my apartment building after work at 4:40PM on Monday. The Best Upholstery rep was waiting out front in a beat-up blue van and at that point had called me twice. He was annoyed that he had had to wait and told me that he had been waiting 10 minutes. I told him that the appointment was at 5:00PM, so that although I was sorry he had to wait, I was actually early to let him in. He brought a limited selection of fabric books for me to look through(I was a little surprised that he wanted me to select a fabric in order to provide an estimate, but I figured that this was so that he could provide the most accurate estimate). When I couldn’t find any fabrics I liked and asked if I could come to their location to go through more books, the rep told me that this was not an option because the showroom was«too far.» When I told him that I didn’t feel strongly about any of the fabrics, the rep morphed into car salesman mode, and I felt pressured to select a fabric that I wasn’t too sure about. Because I figured it was only to provide an estimate, I picked a fabric type that I thought would most closely match what I wanted. After giving the estimate, the rep began to write up a ticket order. I told him(again) that I was waiting for another estimate from another company and that I would give him an answer later that week. The rep became visibly angry and told me that it was a hassle for him to park(I helped him park in the large loading area right in front of my apartment building, so this wasn’t a hassle) and that he was ready to take the couch now. Whoa! He then told me that he was giving me a good price, and that I should go with the other company that I was considering, because he had exerted enough effort on me, after which he stormed out of my apartment. So much for getting a few estimates and selecting the best vendor! Unless you are very sure that they are the company that you want to go with, I would be very hesitant to give your service to Best Upholstery in Alexandria, VA.
