This was my «go to» sushi place. I loved it so much that I never wanted to post a review on Unilocal because I worried that other people would start flocking there and I would no longer get my special customer treatment. And with the new apartment buildings next store, the joint was already getting more crowded. But alas, they seem to have been forced to close. The entire place is intact, but shuttered and dark, with signs on the door saying the property has been seized for nonpayment or something. Where am I going to eat now? Do they want me to starve? We are the world people. :-(

This place is exceptional! We’ve been looking for a good sushi place for a while in Alexandria and this is a gem. It has a relaxing atmosphere and staff is nice and attentive. We also love the ramen here. We’ll highly recommend this place to others!!!

Awesome sushi and service. The sushi is always fresh and flavorful and the sides are also good. I like the sushi way better than pricier places in Old Town Alexandria. Give this place a try. There are some complaints about deliver but the service was fast and great at the restaurant. Take out was really fast too.

This was one of the best sushi dinners I have had in a long time! The sushi was very fresh and the chef made us a special roll that was to die for. This is our new go to, we will definitely be back!

My family ordered food from here last night. Everyone had the tempura. Everyone is sick this morning with stomach aches and diarrhea. Very expensive food poisoning

Before I even tasted this sushi I was disappointed. It took over an hour to have it delivered and the delivery shows up and no extra ginger as requested but $ 13.75 for two pieces of Toro sushi is highly over priced– the menu I used online doesn’t say how many pieces you get so for $ 57 I got 8 pieces of sushi and two rolls– won’t buy here again. I should have just ordered from the usual place and picked it up– Unhappy Valentines Day

Solid Japanese in Alexandria. Monday happy hour is a great deal. Does this make the review long enough?

Service was really good! The place was clean and the food came out quick. Really enjoyed the food… We had about 8 different rolls and if we could eat more I’m sure we would have!

Akasaka is a solid neighborhood sushi joint. You’re not going to get achingly fresh fish or cutting-edge experimental rolls, true, but sometimes it’s enough to have a reliable place to hit for a satisfying platter and a cold beer. By local standards prices are good to surprisingly good, and the service is prompt and friendly.

Ordered take out last night and the sushi was sooo miserable. The amount of salmon in the roll could barely be seen and the tuna was minced not a cut piece :(

Definitely sitting at the sushi bar gives you a front row seat on how everything is made and you get a few special perks with being right next to the chef

Very«eh.» The service was fantastic, so they get definite props for that, but not even close to the amount of props you would find in the closet of a Broadway show. More like, the amount you would find backstage at an elementary school play. And that’s like, four props that they use over and over for each play. The prices were super high for the quality of the food. My cousin ordered chicken teriyaki and it was somewhere between 15 and 20 dollars for just an average portion with a teeny little side of rice. Possibly the saddest side of rice I have ever seen. And I have seen some seriously Prozac-inducing rice in my day. I ordered some roll with octopus and heaps of other stuff drizzled with spicy mayo and a California roll. The rolls were much more reasonably priced but I was not blown away by the octopus, crab, etc, etc, roll. It was just, as I mentioned at the start of this post, eh. It almost hurts me to give them two stars because the servers were so nice, but hey, this is about overall quality.

The sushi and the chirasi here were some of the best I’ve had. The value is great as I got the chirasi lunch special and was blown away by the amount of food I received and how good it was. The service was good and I was able to get in and out quickly.

Great service, reasonable prices, everything very tasty and fresh. We had a chicken lunch bento, captain crunch, a Philly and done Cali rolls. Beautiful presentation, quiet atmosphere.

This is a hidden gem. My father and I go here every time I visit Alexandria to take advantage of the great Bento boxes and lunch specials. The feel of this restaurant reminds me of what a sushi restaurant should be. Not some new age trendy restaurant with flaming rolls, but quality fish served with attention to detail. I usually order sashimi and the cuts were fresh, proper temperature, and served artfully. The prices seemed quite reasonable for the area.

When I ask for brown rice on my sushi roll, I expect to get it… or at least an explanation that they do not have brown rice. I ordered delivery from Akasaka, and I don’t think I will do so again. Maybe they do better when you dine in. I don’t feel like my delivered food tasted fresh.

3.5 stars. Went here last night after not feeling phở viet flare next door. I always assumed it wouldn’t be any good and like the millions of other sushi restaurants around town. Being a but of a Japanese food snob I was fully prepared for that mediocrity or awfulness but was definitely pleasantly surprised. The menu is large with many non sushi options that I always like to see. The lunch menu has several pages of reasonably priced bentos and sushi. The prices aren’t cheap for sure but not too outlandish for the most part. The sushi for two was large enough and all the fish was quite fresh. Service was slow but friendly and overall not a bad experience at all. Nothing spectacular but I’ve seen far worse out of random sushi spots.

I have never had anything other than an pleasant experience at Akasaka. I only ever order the same thing(salmon /avocado rolls) and they have been consistently good. I honestly can’t speak for any other item on the menu, but Akasaka has never failed me. The service has always been great, too.
