Southwest Airlines

Katrina at Southwest Airlines is legit! My flight to Phoenix was late and eventually grounded so I wasn’t going to make my connecting route to Salt Lake. Since this was an evening flight, the earliest I would be able to fly would be the next day. This could have been a way bad experience, but having flown as much as I have it’s just better to stay calm and treat the airline workers nicely. They can make some miracles happen!
Katrina worked her magic, in a chipper enthusiastic way, despite all the rude customers around and limited seats available. She turned an inconvenient truth into an extra night in Duke City, but it worked out. Yes, I know this can mean $$$ for an extra hotel, etc., but in a sea of angry people trying to get to Phoenix, good karma reciprocated and eventually I got to my destination. I’ve been flying Southwest many years and this is one of the best interactions I’ve had with their customer service. Cinco stars!

As I am waiting for the flight I hear the attendant tell a customer that they only sold 3 business select seat so A3 through 15 is not used. Seems like a bad system I checked in at exactly 24 hours before and was still B34. At least they were on time

I enjoy flying Southwest. Staff has always been friendly and courteous. Checked two bags in for free this morning which is always a bonus. Have had the most luck with Southwest when it comes to planes being on time.

Used to fly them often but recently I haven’t been that impressed. They do now fly to Nassau Bahamas so that’s a new plus but overall satisfaction has good down in my opinion.

Today there was nobody else fine so it was really empty really fast great service. Our last trip that we came on we only had two people to check our luggage in over two hours to get through southwest airlines. Hopefully it was just a bad day because it was a one time occurrence.

Absolutely worst airline I’ve been on by far. They used to have good service but now I will refuse to fly with them. After boarding the plane, the plane was taxing on the runway ready to take off. They then had to turn around for mechanical problems. Everyone on the plane had to get off and I asked the gate attendant what should I do and he said just sit down and wait for instructions. He did not say to line up like everyone else was doing to get alternate flight. After the line was more than a hundred persons I went back to the gate attendant and asked what I should do and he said line up like everyone else. To get through the line would be at least 2 hours now as it was taking at least 10 minutes per person to rebook flights etc. SW did not know how long the delay would be and kept changing times but finally said the delay would be hours long. The line wasn’t moving anywhere so I went to the only other SW gate that was open and there was over a hundred people in that line also, line not moving anywhere. I had a flight to catch to San Francisco then Honolulu. Then that gate attendant said that due to mechanical problem that flight was delayed for undetermined amount of time. No other gates were open. So I called SW on the phone and to try to change my flight and the agent said that she cannot get to my flight information because they locked the entire flight out until after the plane takes off and she said she can’t do anything and cannot verify my flight or rebook at all. I then went to United and immediately got a flight out and changed my flight to Honolulu. I then called SW after I returned to get a refund and they told me that I don’t get a refund because I was a «no show» So I said how can I be a no show when I was a passenger on the plane that had to deplane because of your mechanical problem. I said I called and you folks locked the system out according to the phone agent so it was impossible to rebook. She didn’t care and just said I was no show so I don’t get any kind of refund. So if you want to lose money and deal with plane mechanical problems you can fly SW but the reason why they have mechanical problems is because they don’t do the maintenance on the plane that other airlines do and to save money they are willing to compromise safety and thus offer lower costs to passengers. It is interesting that 2 flights at the same time had severe mechanical problems that would require several hours to «fix» which should say something about the safety and reliability of Southwest Airlines.

This review is more about Southwest in general. Used to be my favorite airline. Fast, efficient, super friendly and funny… WHAT HAPPENED?
I fly a ton. I fly southwest a lot of the time. Anymore the majority of my flights are delayed significantly. And quite a few have simply been cancelled. Today I’m supposed to fly from Albuquerque to Salt Lake City with a quick touch and go through Phoenix. With no reason given, first leg is delayed over an hour and second half is simply cancelled. But don’t be concerned the staff has rebooked me on second leg after an 8 hr layover in Phoenix now putting me home well after midnight. Original trip travel time 3:45. New itinerary over 13 hours of airport and flight time. I CAN DRIVE IT IN 10!!!
Get your shit together southwest. PLEASE!

I always fly southwest and usually had nice experience. But today as I try to check in my bags at the counter, a lady staff talk to me like I am an idiot and very rude to me. She looks like she had a long and stressful day, but that doesn’t give you rights to be impatient with other travelers and I do not appreciate this. She ruined my mood and my trip. I understand most of staff here are wonderful, but this is just bad.

I’m a huge fan of southwest. But they don’t run this division well at all. They are vastly understaffed for the morning rush – 10 flights leave within a few minutes of each other at 6:30 am. And so there were lots (30+) folk (just in the skycap line) who needed to be re-​routed. We all got there with over an hour (me: 1hr 15 min before my flight) and it was so slow. I was finally helped 1hr 35 min later. They woman at the desk tried to deny that we were in line that long – telling us «we time our lines», and that the several dozen of folks were wrong… Anyhow, she admitted this was typical for this time frame. So now I’m arriving at my destination 13 hours later than I was supposed to.
But seriously, if this is a known regular massive backup for this time, maybe you should think about having more staff to help.
Update: now I have flown out of this airport a few more times, and pro tip: it’s all good as long as you take only a carry on.

This is the longest I have ever waited for the ticket counter at 1.5 hours. Unlike most airport this location let’s all other travelers ahead of the regular line causing excessive wait times. Avoid flying Southwest to this location.

The Southwest staff at this location are AMAZING and deserve some major kudo’s.
After just getting done with training and trying to fly home the soonest possible, I had a lot to pack up and didn’t plan out my time wisely. After zooming as fast as I could (and possibly faster than that) to returning to return my car, I noticed that I had 40 minutes til boarding and quickly running out of time while being shuttled from the rental car lots to bag check-​in.
I am MAJOR late! This was the most crunched for time I had ever been and feared that for the first time I would miss a flight.
Take a deep breath…
The women at the check-​in desk saw the sweat literally running down my forehead and me visually stressing out. They got to work hastily and got me all set to go run through security. What a relief! But that wasn’t the end.
Then I got to the gate and found out that my payment for the ticket still had not gone through (Could this day be any more stressful!?). But the lady at the gate was also quick to help and got it all worked out.
I may have been the very last person to board, but they got me home and I’m very grateful that every one of them didn’t just shrug and tell me there was nothing they could do. Thank you!
And this was one of the many experiences with them. Every time was awesome. Southwest has an amazing team in ABQ

SWA has the best customer service of any Airline. They always make you feel like their happy to help you. I love flying with SWA.

This morning’s flight was on a nearly empty plane. Only about 40 of us plus crew and captain. So we each got our own row. In fact, the flight attendants insisted on it, separating lovers, moms from babies, and special-​needs passengers from their guardians. A little bit of a fuss, and no nonsense allowed.
Just kidding, of course. The spacious cabin was pure pleasure — I love being able to stretch out my long legs in my own row.
Southwest crews and flights have never disappointed me. Even when I missed a flight, had to accept a middle seat, or had a longish flight with only peanuts and pretzels. As long as they continue to offer great prices to my favorite destinations, I’m a customer for life!

***Southwest offers a few direct flights from Albuquerque to Los Angeles, which is convenient; inexpensive flights, free pretzels and peanuts in-​flight, and 2 free checked bags are the pluses here; I am not a fan of the cattle call boarding process though; customer service on this flight was not as friendly as what I have experienced with other Southwest flights***
I imagine parking at this airport is expensive like other airports.

Okay, this was the trip from hell. Started off being delayed before we got there by 20 minutes, got there and waited. They come on and say there’s a scratch and it will be a few minutes. Well three hours later after being told every 10 minutes it will be a few minutes because they are faxing pictures to engineers in Texas, they don’t know? Then they quit giving updates and let us sit for 3 hours without coming back and updating. Then we finally get on and they don’t have paperwork signed off and we sit yet again. You would think they would offer discount on flight, free voucher for something, even a free drink on the plane. The stewardess we had barely cracked a smile. HMMMMMM, everyone was mad. Not sure if I will continue flying Southwest. Flight 1891 ABQ to PDX 10/​13/​2014.

Good job on the departing flight. Awesome, humorous attendants. Two bags o goodies, peanuts and cookies. Helpful with overhead, Flight was over before I knew it.
Return flight good as well. Most attendants were awesome, one gal, was pretty nasty. Almost to the point of being rude. Hopefully it was her turn for a bad day and all will be better tomorrow. Good job SW! Would also like to include roomy seat, no baggage fees. WHAT??? Ridiculously low airfare too? Awesome!

Traveling these days really sucks. Yesterday I took a return trip from Albuquerque to LAX with my little service dog Mochi. Upon arrival at the airport I did something I never do, I checked a bag. The baggage guy questioned me about Mochi’s service capabilities; I politely told him he was a service dog. He kept insisting on knowing what service he provided (illegal) so finally I told him he provided a service for a condition I had. Of course, that was not good enough; he wanted me to pay. I said that service dogs were gratis. He marked my boarding pass stating I was traveling with a service dog. No worries. We go to the gate, before the plane boarded, my name was called. The lady was quite nice and allowed us to board first :)
This is where the horror begins. I get on board carrying my dog in his carrier. The stewardess immediately tells me «you can’t sit in the front» so I proceed to the middle of the plane. I put the carrier under the seat, get settled in. The stewardess follows me back and then starts telling me that a service dog can’t go under the seat. I have to take him out of the carrier and put him in my lap. I told her I never heard of anything so crazy. Then she says «well you can sit in the front.» So I head back to the front and she tells me I can’t take my carrier or my purse. They have to be stowed on top. So I comply and settle into the first seat; dog on lap. She comes back and sits down next to me and says «you know you do have a choice». .. I was like what kind of choice? You mean I can go back to the middle of the plane after you forced me to move? I told her PLEASE GO AWAY. I don’t want to speak to you anymore.
What a friggin hasstle.
I hope Southwest reads this. I was mortified at their lack of training about service dogs.

Always have a good experience flying with this airline.

This is always the airline I check first. I never minded being able to check in 24 hours before departure, but since the birth of Early Bird check in you better be on your A game. Even if you check in exactly 24 hours before your departure you are still going to get a high number — A boarding, but high number. For someone like me that is traveling with a 11 year old it is really important to board early to ensure we get seats together. Overall a solid airline and service. I’ve had to cancel flights and bank the money for future travel. It’s nice to know that you won’t lose your money. I think SWA makes every attempt to work with you. They try to make it as easy as possible. My choice for travel

I have flown to many airports and always Southwest Airlines, however, the attendant IN the airport were by far the most unfriendly I have ever met.

I was dropped off at the Southwest terminal, they met me before going in, check ed my bags in, and were so polite. I’m thinking, «Is this Southwest?» It was Southwest. So let’s review the terminal and the plane ride.
The terminal was clean, and employees were cool. I happened to be wearing a sombrero, and it happened to be Cinco De Mayo. Oh, what fun we had.
The plane was 10 minutes early, check in was fast, and the plane’s staff were fantastic. The pilot announced certain cities we would fly over. It was the pilot’s birthday, and the whole plane trip was the most fun, positive plane I’ve ever flown in. I gave Southwest in a different city very low stars, but this branch of Southwest is one of the better, if not best. Very positive experience.
