Best local shop for tea. The first time we went, we tried to ask sophisticated questions, but it was clear that our tea knowledge was lacking. Not a problem there, they’ll patiently walk you through any questions. I adore their Vintage Earl Grey. Mmm. It’s hard to try others — but they solved that dilemma for you! Sign up for their e-mail and they give you a free 1oz sample each month. Perfect way to try new teas. They have so many great teas, and many that are caffeine-free if you’re looking for something to wind down with.

I’ve been buying tea from New Mexico tea company for about three years and every experience seems new. The selection is huge, without being overwhelming. There are plenty of options for pre blended and plain teas. Check out their website for a full list! David is a great owner, and I’ve taken a tea class with my brother with him. Great experience and knowledge.

Always happy with my experience here and the teas that I bring home. I make a point to try something new and get a few old favorites. The folks here are friendly and helpful, and they definitely know their tea. If you’re new to the tea world, ask for some guidance, buy a few samples, and come back to purchase your favorites! Tip: Join their e-mail list and you’ll get a free 1oz sample each month!

Incredible place with plenty to choose from. I’ve got maybe 20 teas from them now, some tea cups, and a few odds and ends. The staff has always been friendly and patient with me so I highly recommend the shop for that alone. I often ask for their recommendations and have yet to be disappointed.

Since discovering this tea shop when we were in Albuquerque I have been ordering their Grand Keemun via the Internet. It’s part of our regular tea rotation and we still love its taste

This is a very charming store, but I found their Tie Guan Yin inferior to comparable oolongs from the Fragrant Leaf. If you like flavored teas, this is probably the best place for you. If you want teas that are so good you would never consider adding flavoring to them, try the Fragrant Leaf.

Makes me sad I am no longer in NM because I worship this place! Love the teas and the standard they set.

A cool little tea shop open on Sundays with all sorts of loose tea. There are so many types of tea here. I went home with lavender and earl grey and the prices are really good. You don’t have to use much loose tea with your morning cup, so it will last a while. There is also a room of tea pots and mugs and cute little bottles honey you can leave at work when you need some sweetness in your tea.

Amazing! It’s like a tea library! So many different types of tea. The people who work here are so super friendly too. Just bought some plum oolong tea and cinnamon ginger tea. Also found some awesome tea cups. If you like tea, this is a must stop!

I can’t believe it took me so long to try this place! We were recently shopping for Christmas gifts, knew exactly what we wanted, and found it at NM Tea Co. Everyone who works there is wonderful and they clearly love what they do. They were even kind enough to gift wrap our items for us in a lovely wrapping paper they made themselves — Great touch! So far I’ve only tried the Cream Earl Grey which I must say is amazing. They have a large assortment of teas, we could have spent the day smelling them all. If you’re a tea drinker you need to check this place out!

I love my teas! Small little company but a large selection of teas! There is a wall nine feet tall with their blends, small sample jars to see and smell and the staff very helpful and knowledgable about the selection. They also have steeping products, tea pots including tradtional, modern and Japanese pots, tea cozies and cups and its a cozy place,. I wasn’t offered samples, nor did I see any, but they were busy! My husband dropped me off and circled the block several thousand times before I could make my purchases and pay, as parking is very limited, they share a small lot with a bakery I think so beware!

I too have enjoyed several five star experiences in this business, I love the passion of the employees, and now that I’ve spent time discussing the finer points of teas from the world over I can report that I know, well, just about nothing about tea. Like a solid herb store or nutrition center, the average customer who enters knowing nothing will be starstruck and dizzied, then engaged and enraptured, only to walk out the door with a handful of goodies wondering if they really understand anything whatsoever about the actual product. I don’t, which makes sense. Like futbol, Americans are waaaay behind the collective tea leaf curve and it’s lookin’ like we won’t be getting there anytime soon. Most of these teas are just a tease, because hey, it’s the subtlety that makes every cup great. Thanks to the Tea Company I now know that cream and sugar are all but forbidden in Asia and they likes themselves lil’ itty bitty teapots, short and stout. They’re sold here, along with European vessels, high tech gizmos, and native New Mexican products that will make you wanna raise a pinky to tea time. All of this sandwiched in a space reminiscent of the closet where I slept during my second year of college. Tip me over and pour me out.

We had a great experience here today. I spoke with a couple of very nice and informed folks here about selecting some tea. The atmosphere of this shop is very warm and inviting. I’ve ordered from Adagio online in the past but having found this gem I’ll be shopping here now. They’ve got a wide selection of teas as well as a wide array of teaware. If you’ve not been here before I’d give them a try, we’re glad we found them :)

I have traveled the world sipping teas. The best chai I have ever drank came from Dharamsala near the Golden Temple. I have been searching for that flavor throughout the country(USA). Little did I know that I could make it myself! In the outskirts of downtown Albuquerque, there is an intersection I named the«Three Corners,» on 12th street and Mountain. You will find the New Mexico tea company, Golden Crown and Cochina Azul Café. I love to find shops, cafes, people, foods, towns that are off the beaten path. NMTC was a delightful find! They not only have a great selection of loose leaf teas and knowledgable people but they have a special tea called masala spice. You slowly heat the mixture in milk for about 30 – 60 minutes on very low heat until the essence of the herbs have been released. Turn the heat up to ensure it gets hot. You must watch the milk. It can boil over. Add Assam CTC for 5 minutes. Strain the herbs out. Sip as is or with sugar cane crystals. It comes darn close to the chai in Dharamsala! I also tried the following: Peach Melba(peach, apple, hibiscus, elderberry) — it reminded me of my favorite dessert when I was 3 years old– strawberry jello! Perhaps it reminded me of the time I spend making jello with my grandma. It smelled like home. Tummy tisane(ginger mix) — incorporating ginger is something I do weekly. It’s refreshing. I added one piece of crystallized ginger to sweeten the tea. And you can eat it afterwards! Uji genmai matcha(green tea matcha with rice) — Our grandparents gave us this tea when we did not feel well. It always seemed to work. Also in Japan, rice was added to their sencha tea to expand their batch, add nutrient and made it more filling. Pearled Jasmine(green tea and jasmine) — good after a greasy meal. The jasmine sweetens the tea naturally. Tie Guan Yin(tieguanyin thih-koan-im oolong) — my favorite oolong. Named after an Asian goddess(I think it was a male though). The prosperity tea. The tea of Hope /Strength. Pomegranate white — I got it because it smelled so good. I am not impressed with this tea though. It’s too mild for me. They do not brew tea here. However, you can go next door to Golden Crown to get a cup. They only have 8 teas to choose from. Asian Street Café on central avenue has a large selection of their teas to try. If you appreciate quality teas, you must visit this place! You will not be disappointed.

This little tea shop is amazing. I only wish I had discovered it sooner, as my time in Albuquerque is almost up. Unlike Teavana, where the second you walk into the store a salesperson tries to push as many products onto you as possible, the folks at New Mexico Tea Company are very knowledgeable and helpful if you have any questions but they will let you browse in peace. They had teapots and teacups for sale, but I was mostly interested in the tea. I must have smelled half of their offerings that day(and sort of got a headache in the process). I ended up leaving with 2 ounces of Tie Guan Yin, my favorite kind of oolong. My boyfriend got Jasmine Pearls green tea and Russian Caravan black tea. Prices seemed fair and they even give discounts when you buy larger quantities. Once at home, we set the water to boil and sampled our teas. The Tie Guan Yin was very good, and I’ve tried quite a few, including some in China. All for $ 5.50 an ounce. For comparison, Teavana’s Monkey Picked Tie Guan Yin is $ 25 for 2 ounces and when I tried it in store a few weeks ago, it wasn’t as good. The Jasmine Pearls green tea is also good, very delicate. The Russian Caravan wasn’t my cup of tea(sorry not sorry) but my boyfriend likes it a lot. I especially love that I can continue to get my tea here after I leave Albuquerque. You can order tea online and they will ship for free, no minimum purchase necessary!

So many choices of teas that smell delightful. I had been meaning to come into the New Mexico Tea Company for awhile, but I always drove by it, on my way somewhere else. Then today, I stopped in across the street to eat and decided… Today is the day! So, I was very happy when I walked in and saw all the wonderful teas. They have these cool little tins above all the bigger tea tins and so you can smell the teas and see what smells just right. I chose two teas. An herbal tummy tea and another herbal sleepy time tea. I haven’t tried them yet, but they smell divine. I will be trying the sleepy time tea tonight. I also like that they have some pretty nifty tea accoutrements. I don’t normally go the way of loose tea, and for that reason I don’t really have any loose tea steeping equipment. But, never fear, I got a cool filter that turns any cup into a steeping cup. It’s pretty wicked cool. So, tonight, when I tuck into bed, I will be sipping on my NM Tea Company tea and quickly drifting off to dreamland. zzzzzzz

I learned about this place while working on location. I order from them via their website now. Blood Orange Roobios is excellent over ice! I can’t live without it and have to have it in my pantry at all times. Their Earl Grey is delicious black, unsweetened(but I drink most of my tea this way). The Earl Grey Cream is great when you feel like adding a little sugar and a little milk. The Black Jasmine Cream… mmmmmm!!! The Crime of Passion is a tantalizing treat for your taste buds. The Blooming Christmas tree is great for green tea enthusiasts. If you love tea, order from them. Their descriptions on the site are great. I love that they travel to bring back the heavenly selections. New Mexico Tea Company supplies a tea lovers dreams and I greatly appreciate that!

Every great thing I said about NM Tea initially still stands. I just have to update my review to award a five-star for all the good things I’ve discovered since. Most importantly, though I’d initially griped about the price, the quality ingredients, astonishing flavors and blends of flavors these folks achieve, and the amount of tea a simple 2 ounce bag can produce have convinced me that every penny spent here is well-appropriated. Also, I must commend the knowledgeable tea expert whose name I’m blanking on that is so eager to let us smell different teas, talk teas, suggest teas, describe teas, go on and on about teas. I love her passion for this stuff… and I think a bit of that is rubbing off on my wife and me.
