Ate here once and loved the food(buffet). Went back this week and it is closed! Was told by someone there it will be reopened as another restaurant.

While in New Mexico, my boyfriend and I ordered delivery from Maurya many times. On one occasion, being careless, I gave the delivery man the wrong address. I was rude at my own error while he politely asked me to double check the address. Upon my revision, he arrived shortly although I was dreading the face to face to the man I had been rude to. He never broke his composure and was polite through all the crap I gave him.

Ordered from here last night through GrubHub and loved it! Specifically, the lamb curry and naan were wonderful. And they deliver! We will definitely be ordering from here again.

Fantastic place! Already reviewed but I absolutely love this place! And It’s absolutely gorgeous inside! Free bread and drinks for buffet and it’s fairly cheap. You get much more than you pay for. The butter chicken is the best I’ve ever had. They have vegan curry as well(and it tastes amazing!) Oh and for Valentine’s day they gave away free full glasses of wine! Every one is really nice! We were celebrating the end of the semester last year and they gave us all free desert! The mango is my favorite it has this very sweet flowery taste. I’ve taken my boyfriend here a few times and we’ve never been disappointed: D Enjoy it while you can because it is SOGOOD you will immediately stuff yourself and still want to eat more

This is a review of the lunch buffet, so it in no way reflects service because honestly, save the water refills and plate removals, service is entirely non-existent. You walk in, get a table, fill your tummy and pay at the register(and yeah, I have an issue with this, they should deliver your check). Anyway. Vegetarians should be thrilled about Maurya; easily ¾ of the buffet are veggie-friendly, and this carnivore thought the offerings were fantastic, overall. Rather than attempt to identify, by name, the offerings I ingested, here are my American Idiot notes: + Yellow veggie stuff: soupy sustenance. Mellow flavor, delicious. + Saag Paneer(yeah, I know the name of this one, here’s why): My wife could live on saag paneer alone. She’s taught me the finer points of it, and Maurya does not suffice. If you’re going to stuff your gullet with spinach, it best be thick, garlicky fantasia, and this isn’t it. + Green veggie stuff: fantastic. My favorite of the entire batch. It’s green veggie stuff and it’s worth your time. + Orange chicken: Yeah, I’ve bastardized the name of this dish, it’s commonly known as butter chicken. Maurya’s version is solid. Scoop it with the naan(soft and pliable here) and you’re golden. Skip the rice. + Drumsticks: Eh. + Brown lamb stuff: Very close to what I consider Indian authenticity. I have a good friend, first generation Indian, who has allowed me the unique pleasure of tasting her mother’s cooking over the years. One thing I know: they don’t mind gnawing around bones and they love themselves some super spicy. This dish nails the boney meat, sans spicy. Heat it to your heart’s desire with the peppers at the buffet. There’s not much more to report. Dip those potatoes in the mint sauce. Hell, dip all of it in that stuff. If there’s anything that makes Indian food really stand out, for me, it’s spice and herb profile. These guys offer a decent version of what we Americans have come to consider authentic.

Came here for lunch with my family. Second time here, results were different. First time here was mediocre. Second time here was even worse. Food was lukewarm again second time around. Asked a woman if they had tandoori chicken and marsala chicken that was more hot. She didn’t understand what I asked for. Then had to ask again for some more hot food. She took the food to the back and I saw her put it in the microwave. I could see the microwave from my seat through the smoked window into the kitchen. I was surprised they didn’t make a new order of hot food, but rather nuked the food. This will definitely be the last time coming here. There are at least two other Indian buffets in ABQ that has more variety and the food is hot. These are my comments, use them for what they are worth. Had a pic of my microwaved food but don’t know how to add it on this.

This place is so great. The Dal has real ginger and spices. Everything is freshly made by the family that owns the place. My favorite Indian place! They will deliver to you as well for only $ 5 if you aren’t too far. We love the saag and the chicken curry dishes. Do yourself a favor and go here, it always seems empty and I hope it stays in business because it really is delicious.

Ahh, it was a night when I didn’t want to stay in the house, and my friend Haley A. came to the rescue. We were both feeling something international, and Indian was on our agenda. We were politely greeted, and guided to our table. We sat down, and as the disco strobe in the background accented my friend and tried to give her a case of epilepsy, we sat perusing the menu. We tried to order, and it was my feeling that maybe our server was new. She didn’t quite know the menu yet. I’m not a fan of numbers on my menu(I always try to pronounce the items), but if you don’t have them then please know your menu. After we were leaned over and shared the menu with our server. I asked for a bevery, and she had to fetch another server(not a problem at all). But then the other server didn’t know if they had the ingredients and would have to let me know. After what seemed to be a fair amount of time I found out, and I just decided it wouldn’t be a drink with my dinner kind of evening. So let me state that it was a Friday, but it was long before the rush. Our food came out in what I feel was an acceptable amount of time, and the presentation was decent. Sadly, my Garlic Naan didn’t quite make it out with the meal, and seemed to have been forgotten. The meal was great, flavourful, and that perfect amount of spicy, and once the naan made it things came together. Then, but then, the wait began. I’m fairly sure that twenty minutes passed before we grabbed someone and then received our checks. Before we waited some more we decided to walk to the front register and make it happen.(Note: business had picked up a bit. Maybe another server added to the mix was in order.) I hoped for so much more when I ventured from my house that Friday. Maybe I had my hopes set a little too high. The food was fantastic, but the service could’ve been better. Especially for a first visit.

Yeah I’m not sure what all the fuss is about here, but Im awake writing this at 3am because I couldn’t, in good conscience, continue to sleep soundly without you knowing the real deal here. So, I’ve been wanting to come here for a while and finally drug my friend and fellow Unilocaler here for dinner. At the end of the meal I just had to pay for the both of us because it was my suggestion to go there. Let’s start with a positive shall we, the reason it gets two stars, and not one, is the food is actually quite good. I had a butter chicken and my friend had a lamb curry of sorts and we split some garlic naan. I think they must have a real tandoor in the kitchen because the naan was done right. If you’re been craving a proper curry and must go, then have at it! But don’t read any further… Ok, you chose to continue the saga, so here goes… wow, I will not be coming back here. I’d like to say I’m a fairly positive person so places start with a 5 an lose stars from there so it took a lot to get to a 1, then creep up to a two for the good food. Here goes: our waitress, when taking our orders, had to write down the actual Indian name of the dish on the ticket. I’m assuming for the kitchen, as opposed to writing«butter chicken», causing her to lean over us to read off the menu. Look, if you’re going to have a menu in another language, do everyone a favor and number your dishes. Saves everyone the pronunciation embarrassment. My friend then ordered the«Oh Calcutta» cocktail and we got an Oh What(quizzical look) from the waitress. Again point-talk to the menu. She called over the one other waiter in the place who said he would see if they could make that. About ten minutes later he came back to say they could not make it. We got our food sans the garlic naan which we waited for and finally received about halfway through our meal. Then the place got busy with about seven more tables and we waited and waited for the opportunity to ask for checks and a box. Ten minutes later we got the box and another ten we got the check. They may have needed a third server for a Friday night. My last peeve, and this one is merely personal, is there was a color changing disco light going off behind me making trying to read the menu quite difficult. I know this has been a diatribe, but I hope that now you can make a more informed decision about coming to this place.

We really loved the interior décor and ambiance of this restaurant. Came in yesterday for dinner as a party of 4. The restaurant had only one other party seated and a customer waiting for take-out. We ordered the chana masala, butter chicken, shahi korma and maharani murg. Each dish was very flavorful and filling. The heat warmers for each entrée kept everything nice and warm. I would rate the food a solid 4 stars but the rating got bumped down to 3 stars for the subpar service. We waited a long time to order our dishes and had to repeatedly ask for my husband’s order of diet coke. Sadly, our entrees arrived before the diet coke finally arrived. Tell me if this is weird but we used a coupon for $ 25 off of an order of $ 50. Our server stated that there was a mandatory 18% gratuity added to our bill because we used the coupon. I don’t remember there being a disclaimer of such sort and really do hate to gripe about it since I normally add 18−20% gratuity wherever I eat but I felt that this was a bogus call by the server. I could be totally wrong. I know that restaurants generally add an automatic gratuity for parties of 6+ but maybe I am mistaken. Bottom line: food is delightful but the service was not that great. Will have to give it another shot but if the same guy is serving/seating us, we will probably turn around.

My partners and I ordered the Shahi Paneer, Mushroom Saag, and Malai Kofta. We were all thoroughly impressed. We ordered takeout so didn’t get much of a feel for the restaurant.

Found this place after a morning at the zoo. The linch buffet was excellent. Not a huge buffet selection, but honestly the food is top notch and really didn’t need more selection. What was offered was outstanding and I wasn’t wishing there was more. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Excellent restaurant.

Maurya is the new Rasoi Indian restaurant. It has all the same dishes which Rasoi had, and that makes it a wonderful, authentic Indian restaurant. Seriously, if you enjoy the entire array of Indian cuisine, you will enjoy Maurya. The only thing that makes me sad is that they redid the interior decorating, removing the sensual bead curtains, which offered a more intimate dining experience than most restaurants have. Nevertheless, the new interior is very nice. One of my all-time favorite dishes is their Reshami Kebab, which has boneless breast of chicken marinated in yogurt and spiced nuts. It’s a dish I got hooked on while living in Grand Rapids. Maurya’s is a little different, yet it’s still quite good. Another dish to highlight is their Murg Jalftazie: boneless chicken marinated. It’s made with sautéed bell pepper onion tomatoes and ginger. They have the tastiest Martial Tamatar Shorba, which is a spiced creamy tomato soup with roasted coconut. They offer all of the traditional Indian drinks, such as different Lasses and Shikanjavi. Allow yourself to try their desserts, too. And don’t forget the naan! You pretty much can’t go wrong with ordering any of their dishes. Check this place out!

I finally made it down to Maurya late on Sunday night. It was about 8:30 and options were dwindling. I’d been on a «Michael Palin’s Himalaya» documentary kick, so all I could think of was the strong, pungent flavors of Indian cuisine. Fortunately, their buffet was still set up and they were happy to seat us. Maurya is located in(and still has some left over signage from) Rasoi, a decent Indian restaurant that has, for some reason, disappeared. I postulated that the Rasoi owners lost a bet to the new owners, but who knows. Rasoi did a good job with décor: dark, flowing drapes and tapestries, soft lighting, etc. Maurya has gone the opposite direction with light colors, bright lights and a more«contemporary» feel. They replaced the old chairs(which I cannot quite remember) with comfy booths and subbed printed shades for the drapes. Overall it’s a good makeover. However, we didn’t come to Maurya for the décor. We were hungry. I was happy to see a good mix of vegetarian(and a few vegan) options on the buffet: peas with soy«meat» balls, broccoli/potato, curried pakora and Saag Paneer. All were tasty, but had a bit of «it’s the last ½ hour of business» staleness. They were good about refreshing the rice despite the late hour, and nothing tasted outright bad. My wife and our friend ordered off the menu. The Malai Kofta and Masala Chicken were both good, as was the garlic naan. Overall there was nothing that floored me about this place, but it’s a good alternative option to the other Indian places in ABQ, and open late.

Fantastic! Will return to support another new local restaurant. Great friendly service. Unique quirky space. I’m not an Indian food expert but I know this was good and all 6 of us enjoyed every morsel.

Cool furnishings, decent lunch buffet. Great option for Albuquerque, actually. Get your parking spot early — there are only 6 free spots along the south side of the building. Apparently the towing/boot patrol is quite aggressive in this lot. Hot chai and two soups were part of the buffet, as well as two meat-based curries(Goat curry and Chicken Makhani today) and five vegetarian curries. Standard chutneys except I was hoping they would have apricot chutney but they didn’t. Buffet could’ve been hotter temperature-wise. We were hungry so I didn’t say anything, but I would be surprised if the temp of their buffet food today was barely above Health Department requirements. Would’ve been even more delicious at hotter temps. Spice level was kind of bland, could have been hotter as well, considering the regional affinity for spice. Naan was baked crispy and fresh to order(included) and the environment is fresh and cozy with cool velvet lounge-like seating.(I hope they have a good upholstery cleaner!) I wish them well as apparently this restaurant has changed hands a few times. Looking forward to seeing what the local Unilocalers have to say about this place as it matures. We travel to Albuquerque every year for work and are always looking for good non-Mexican lunch options to balance out our typical taco binge ;)
