La Paloma

We rent this apartment because it is close to our previous house. We did not look any other options since we are only going to rent for a short term and them move to another city. The shortest term for La Paloma is 7 months, it is too many for what we need BTW. But, what a BIG MISTAKE I made! First of all, we have a horrible neighbor upstairs who consistently making noises, but we can’t move out because it is just too much hassle, and the office manager said we can call the courtesy patrol so they will take care of it. Big help! I tried and they are doing absolutely nothing! Because they say: Unless the resident is making noise right at the moment or we can hear it from outside, otherwise there is nothing we can do”. They also claim that any issue for the apartment they will fix it within 48 hours, which, never happened either. And after I search other apartment complex, I realized their monthly rent is high, and you absolutely will not get what you pay for. Be aware, people.

I moved in on 06/​20/​2014. I came from the Pavilions, and I must admit that there are not too many apartments that can compare with them. I moved into La Paloma because it was very close to my office and the general neighborhood surrounding the complex is very nice. Gina was the sales agent who took care of our lease. Here is the fist issue. We needed to rent a 3 bdrm, 2 bath first floor. I was moving in with a roommate and I really needed to see the apartment first so I could figure out how I was going to arrange the furniture. We were never able to do this. The best that she could do was show us a 2 bedroom. That simply was never good enough, but I was told that we just simply could not see any. Ironically, the day that we came in to sign the lease, another person was there and asked to see a 3 bdrm/​2 bath apartment and she was shown one right away! I suspect it may have been our soon-​to-​be unit.
First issue, our refrigerator made terribly loud motor noises. I called and Lambert (maintenance guy and simply the sweetest of all the crew!) came over and pulled the refrigerator out and discovered tons of hair behind it… really??? HAIR? I was under the impression that this apartment was cleaned before we moved in, and that was just freaking nasty. Also, our dishwasher was not cleaning even CLEAN dishes. Lambert replaced something and cleaned it out because, guess what… it was FILTHY!!! When I asked why we were not getting any hot water, he explained that for me to have hot water in the washer or the dishwasher, I had to first run the faucet in the kitchen until it got hot, then to turn on the other appliances. Freaking RIDICULOUS!!!
Moving on… I must preface this next part with the fact that I VERY SPECIFICALLY told the apartment staff that UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES were they EVER to enter our apartment without us there. I work literally 3 miles from the complex, and I would always be available to let them in. Three months into our lease I received a call from the complex. I was told that there was a very bad leak and they needed to get into my apartment. I left my office immediately and returned home. When I got there, I noticed that there were boot prints all over the carpet, and my bed had been placed on little foam pads, moved away from the wall, and other things just did not seem right. The maintenance manager Kerry then arrived. I asked him if someone had come into my apartment without my permission and he told me «no». My bedroom was awful. Water had leaked in causing my carpet to be soaked. I was about to have hip replacement surgery, I had severe chronic pain at that point and had only one way to sleep, in my bed. It seemed as if my situation had no concern for ANYONE! They proceeded to drag big carpet fans in and told me that I had to keep them on for 3 days. Who cares if I can’t sleep, who cares that the carpet smells AWFUL now. But if you can believe it, things got worse. Later in the day, Kerry slipped and stated that he had to come in without me here because it was an emergency… all I know is that he lied to me. He freaking lied and came in without my permission. I find that very disrespectful and unprofessional.
But…
it gets worse…
I had a total of 4 leaks in my bedroom area in the 12 months that I lived there. My carpet is full of tracks left by plums all over the property and it is very old! The walls are paper thin and about 4 months ago we got some GREAT neighbors above us.(not really) They carry rifles on their backs, have dogs that are regarded as «service» dogs, but all they do is bark at every other living thing all day. The owners just let them poop in the gravel, so when I would leave in the morning to go to work the very first smell to hit me was dog shit, nearly every day. I told the management but they clearly did nothing to rectify the situation.
Electrical outlets never worked (over 4 total), bathroom drawers never could be opened, AC leaked all over the carpet and needed to be serviced twice, groundskeepers just standing in one place for several minutes at a time, seemingly there to do nothing more than collect a paycheck and the great crew of Tumbleweed Landscaping using a leaf blower when the winds are gusting over 40mph.
I can say that they management appears pleasant, for the most part. I have lived all over the US, and there area really great apartment complexes, and really bad ones, as well as a million that are in between. This place is indeed in a neighborhood that is pleasant, but if anyone were interested in moving there, please reconsider, it is way too jacked up, the money that we pay for rent should be used to better the complex, and it is clearly not being used for that!
Great news for me is that I moved! I can’t wait to do our final walk through tomorrow with Andrea the manager. I am positive that we are leaving this unit MUCH cleaner than when we moved in.

This place is horrible I have no idea what I was getting myself into but this place is infested with bugs, my shower rack keeps falling off, my washer and dryer just ruined my clothes from it getting caught somewhere and ripping it please I don’t recommend staying here especially the apartment I was given.
