Avoid Kim’s Alterations in Mountain Run shopping center. I dropped off a pair of yoga pants for hemming. After a lengthy argument that I needed the pants to reach the floor(for yoga, remember), the seamstress acquiesced and let me have them a tad shorter. All the while she kept saying that hemming is not guaranteed. I now know why. They were not ready the first week. The second week, they scrambled and found them on a rack. Finally. The pants had not been touched. Cost me 8 bucks.

I choose Kim’s Alterations because they won Best in Albuquerque and an employee at Anthropologie recommended them for having pants hemmed. To begin with, I don’t think the carpets, sagging sofa, or the dressing rooms have been cleaned once in 20 years. If the funky smell was the only problem, I’d over look it, but it was not. The best part: For pants, it was fine. Both pairs were almost an inch shorter than I asked for, which was irritating, but the sewing was well done and they were ready on time. They cost $ 12-$ 14 each, which seemed reasonable. It goes downhill from there. First, I would not recommend EVER taking vintage clothing to this place. The people who work there clearly have no regard for the craftsmanship of an older garment. I had a beaded sweater from the 50s that needed a couple of eye hooks replaced. The sweater came back with stretches around the new eye hooks, they were sewn on top of the lining(unlike the existing hooks that were attached under the lining) and they were visible when clasped, when they should have been hidden. They also detached the lining to add the hooks, but then did not reattach it! I also left a skirt with a waist I needed to be taken in. I asked if she could put in a side zipper because that’s usually the only way I can get a skirt to fit properly. She said she couldn’t, but she could put some elastic in the back. I said I was worried elastic would make it bunch up, and that I wanted it to be smooth. She said it would not bunch up. So I left it. When I got it back, it was WAY too small in the waist, bunched terribly, and had really obvious back-and-forth stitching where the elastic was attached that totally ruined the aesthetic of the dainty rayon skirt. I told her I was unhappy with the skirt, and she just put her head down and kept repeating the total I owed her over and over again, refusing to make eye contact or acknowledge my frustration. So for some reason, I paid for the crappy(and excessively expensive) work… I guess I was too mad to do anything but get out of there. I waited two years to post this review because I was so angry in the moment, I thought it best to cool off first. I still feel just as angry today! The sweater was ruined and I had to get rid of it. It took me HOURS to get all the stitching out of the skirt, and the short pants annoy me every time I wear them.

Avoid at all costs. I don’t know how she has those awards on the wall because the work she does is awful. Brought a sports coat in to be taken in and two pairs of slacks to be hemmed. The seams on the jacket are uneven and just plain awful and there are snags on the material that weren’t there when I brought it in. Bottom line, its a total loss. I cannot wear it ever again. One pair of slacks has totally uneven hem and one leg is a half inch longer than the other. If I wanted that quality of work I would have done it myself, not hire a «professional». I am afraid to even look at the other pair of slacks. Avoid Kim’s Alterations.

For the last 12 years I have gone to Kim’s. She does an excellent job with all types of clothing. I take all of my jeans to her(I’m a shorty) and they come out perfect. A few months ago she basically reconstructed a dress I needed for my brother’s wedding. It looked like it was tailored just for me, all at a reasonable price. If you are looking for an experienced, affordable tailor, Kim’s is where you should go.

I have gone to Kims for years, for everything from basic hemming to major alterations, and they have always been on time and great quality. They really know their stuff here.

Kim had me in and out in a flash and really knows her stuff she is altering 4 pairs of pants that cost over $ 1000 and I will only pay about $ 60 for her amazing work. Don’t got anywhere else bit here for good quality, cheap alteration work. You can trust her with your top dollar items no problem.
