Can you remember where you had your last shake? Mine was at Judy’s. Chocolate. Where did your shake shop proprietor go to prom? Mine was in a castle. Yes, a castle. The woman who I got my shake from, went to prom in a castle in Heidelberg, Germany. I’ve been in Heidelberg and loved it, but had no idea someone could hold a prom in a castle. That blows my mind.(My little hs gym prom pales in comparison) This is why I love small business. That’s is exactly why I love *this* business! You feel good about your dollars leaving your wallet(which they inevitably do anyway). Here you can browse old records and quirky cool antiques while you enjoy your shake and learn amazing things about people who run the shop. I feel like I could spend a month in there and not know but a fraction of who they are. I know why they offer a Vet special.(Personal service, family and working at the local VA hospital) I learned something about each of them and that counts. They are good people through and through. You truly feel the welcome and true spirit of the South Valley here. The ice cream shake was great and it was what I’d come for, but it was just part of the menu. Yes, they carry the full range in the ice cream dept.; floats, sundaes, malts, etc, w/the toppings you need, but they do a little food too. Nathan’s dogs(w/chile & cheese if it pleases you), the ubiquitous Frito pie, a BBQ sandwich and nachos are among the current offerings. You may see more offering down the road, as this a newish addition to the store. Granted these local shops are not always as convenient as the sonics on every corner, but so worth that little bit of effort. There is no way I could have gotten my ‘new’ antique blue speckle kettle at a sonic, DQ or Wendy’s. I’ll think of Judy and Lou when I’m using it next time I camp. Stop in, say Hello, have a cup of coffee(it’s free) and talk some South Valley stuff for awhile. Learn what makes it tick. It’s a very unique part of the city and the people proudly reflect that. How was my shake? Amazing. Negatives? I would appreciate a spatula to get every sweet drop of chocolate off the sides of my cup! The spoon did not suffice and my face wil not fit down the cup. ;)~ Maybe one day I’ll try all the flavors. There’s something like 16 of them. Then I can start mixing ‘em!
