First time at Fan Tang and first impression was pretty good! The dish selection was nice, the iced tea was very good(I’m an iced tea fan) and the venue was clean and modern. The service was very nice but it took a very long time to receive our food. The restaurant had only a few tables so it wasn’t super busy but it’s possible they just take their time — which I’m ok with since the food was good. Give yourself a little extra time for your visit.

We are from out of town. We walked in and the place was empty, of course we were skeptical. We ordered the pot stickers, beef rolls, firecracker pot stickers, steamed pork rolls, mandarin noodles, orange peel chicken and yes the coconut curry chicken… BTW our waitress was super nice!

There are few Chinese options in ABQ and this is one of the better ones. The quick fire set up is kind of nice option. The menu is pretty big and I haven’t had anything I didn’t like. One of the top reasons I like Fan Tang is that they don’t go heavy on the oils. I generally find Chinese food to be greasy and this isn’t like other places here in ABQ. On my last visit I had the crab won-tons which are served with a house made sweet and sour that had pineapple in the mix. The crab had flavor and you knew it was there, which is a plus. I also had the cashew chicken which was awesome since they didn’t skimp on the cashews. They have a nice brown gravy for the dish which is great to sop up with the brown rice. This might not be a great date night location based on the style of service but then again, who are we kidding I’ll have Asian food at any opportunity. Fan Tang is a great little option in Nob Hill and really adds to the variety of the neighborhood. They also have a pretty nice patio that looks pet friendly.

I went for take out at the end of the evening on a Sunday night. 5 minutes before closing time… I didn’t know they closed at 9pm. I wasn’t sure if I was too late to order so we asked the staff if I had arrived too late to order, with a smile on his face, he said we’re still open, what would you like? He was happy to help us make our selection since we were first timers. We selected the Orange Peal Shrimp and Pot Stickers to share between the two of us. We had a seat while our order was being made. The same very courteous young man brought us our food and said«here you are and we even added some Egg drop Soup.» We picked our fortune cookies and were on our way home to enjoy the delicious meal OMG! The food is amazing! I’m so glad I finally experienced the food and staff. I will be back often since I live so close by. Fast, courteous and delicious!

How have I not yet written a review on Fan Tang?! It’s likely because I am overcome with euphoria soon after dining here. The atmosphere is peppy, but not too chaotic. Service is friendly and attentive. Food quality is excellent. They offer a nice selection of beer, too! The Coffee Shrimp is one mouth-watering bite after another. My go-to lunch — especially when I am looking for something light and healthy — is their Vietnamese Rolls with the Orange Ginger(not peanut) sauce. Don’t get me wrong, the Peanut Sauce is superb — there’s just something about the combination of the Orange Ginger and all the fresh ingredients of their rolls. In my spare time, I search for a match to these Vietnamese Rolls. I’ve looked all over ABQ, San Francisco, and Seattle… Rolls down, Fan Tang’s are my absolute fave! Not saying I’m an expert on Vietnamese Rolls, but if you try them somewhere in the 505 and find better, I’d love to know where. Hmmm… Just had them yesterday for dinner and I’m already craving them again…

I don’t understand how this place is rated so highly. I get there and the cashier tells me that they can only take orders for entrees. No apps or snacks. What? He may have some to take home with me, as they were not«setup» yet for apps. Really? Maybe, he said, depending on how many more people show up. Strike 1… So I order my food, and the place is not crowded, but it takes 30 minutes to get it to me. In the meantime, the waitress is setting my table, filling my water glass, etc. with the longest face I have seen in a restaurant in quite a while. My Coffee Chicken finally arrives and I am not impressed. Its hard, tastes like cracker jacks, and the rice feels and tastes like it was made 3 days earlier. Strike 2… I finished what I could and left. When I left, there was a mob at the door so I didn’t even bother to ask for anything else. No thanks or acknowledgement of my visit or business from the waitress or cashier. The people in line looked pissed as well. Not quite Strike 3, but damn near. I may go back in a few weeks and have a different experience. But if this is any indication of what this place is like all the time, then I have to say it is vastly overrated.

The food is SOGOOD! It’s a little disconcerting to order ahead of time like McDonalds, but the food is so good(General Tsao’s, Sesame Chicken, Egg Drop Soup), and they have a liquor license. Totally recommend it!

I love this place so much but I’m not happy with the service today. I walked in so hungry and excited because this is one of my favorite restaurants but there was no one at the front. It literally took me 20 seconds to decide and I waited patiently for someone to take my order. Nothing. Thinking maybe they were busy I walked into the dining area to see if maybe I needed to seat myself. I see there are 4 people finishing their meals and finding the hostess, Nicole Y., talking to the cook the whole time I was waiting. I didnt even say anything but immediately she gives me attitude and tells me I need to pay in the front and that she is the only wait staff available right now and that I’ll need to be patient. I just say okay and take her rudeness because maybe she’s stressed out or having a bad day and give her a second chance. I understand being in the food industry that its stressful. So I’m patient. A few minutes later she finally takes my order and seats me. The service was super slow after that but I guess it’s because the hostess thought it was a good idea to talk the entire time I waited for my water and soup. Dear God. That is all she did. I finally got my soup but my sweet and sour chicken took forever! This girl didn’t even go around asking if she could refill any waters or if anyone needed anything. Nothing at all. When my food did come I asked for Sriracha sauce and of course I didn’t get it. She went back to talk with the cook. I’m not a person who normally complains but I’ve never had such terrible service here. Ever. I was so hungry and just wanted food or I would have left from the beginning. But my reason for more than one star, the hostess who showed up around 4. She actually cared and was on top of everything! She refilled waters and she brought me my Sriracha! I wish I could have asked for her name because she was very nice and was working instead of talking the whole freaking time. I saw her throw trash away and wipe down tables.

We found ourselves wandering aimlessly in the Nob Friday night with no place to eat. As we attempted grabbing a seat at a few different restaurants, they all seemed to have a significant wait time. As if it were date night or something, what gives? Oh yeah, the whole Valentine weekend & all, and those damn youthful folk who get out & about all the time. I just hate it when that happens! So, as the impatient type we are, we mosied! Wandering from restaurant to restaurant, parched with thirst and on death’s door with starvation. We found ourselves groveling and pleading with puppy eyes to whomever would listen. We would ask, «Please, sir, may we have some more?»(With our best British accent) Holding out a bowl, a la Oliver Twist! And to our dismay, we were met with the same response everywhere we went, «No soup for you!» Until it finally happened, a shinning beacon on the hill appeared! It was in the form of Fan Tang! «Could it be so?», we asked ourselves. With our noses pressed against the windows, we saw vacant tables. There’s one, there’s another, holy crap we thought, we’re not going to die of starvation after all! Be gone Grim Reaper! Not today, no, not today! So we wandered in, and… major let down, yet another order in advance joint before you sit down. The prob is, I’m half starved, dying of thirst, I can’t think straight, how am I going to decipher this menu and make such rash decisions? Well, thankfully the gal behind the register noticed my consternation and said it was cool to take a menu and sit down as we mulled it over. THANKGOODNESS! From then on our night improved, there was light at the end of the tunnel, we just might survive, and indeed we did! Otherwise, how would I be writing this right now? They even had wine by the glass, the old trustworthy Kendall Jackson Chardonnay. An order of Vietnamese rolls and crab rangoons later, and the color to our cheeks returned! The blood started flowing again and we were alive! Fully resurrected via Fan Tang! Thank you, Fan Tang! I also had the Walnut Shrimp, and it was REALLY good! Will we return even when not on death’s door? Sure! But I’m still not wild about that order in advance method, and never will be!

Good American Chinese food. It has a bit of PF Chang’s /Peiwei taste profile. They had a hot chili oil condiment which was pretty tasty. Their Kung Pao was a little sweet for my liking. Their Thai dish was pretty yum and reminded of one of my all time favorite dishes… albeit a little dry. Good folks, good food and great service!

The staff were pretty awesome. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Service could improve, but I figure they were all pretty young and maybe inexperienced – but they were sweet, so I was ok with that. I was surprised to discover ordering was done at the counter, and food is delivered to the table as it is prepared. That’s not my favorite when dining out, but it’s not a deal breaker. Food was prepped pretty fast. Pot stickers were good. They were out of the Vietnamese Rolls(dang, I love good peanut sauce). Beef Rolls were pretty yummy. Apparently, everyone loves the Coffee Chicken – it was ok, my boo and I agreed we wouldn’t order that again. Normally our favorite dish, the General Tso’s Chicken was pretty bad. The chicken was extremely dried out and the flavor was not so great either. We liked the steamed rice. The Chicken Fried Rice was fine. The restaurant was attractive. Lot parking was full, when we entered and as we left, so we had to circle around the block a couple of times and finally got a spot a block away.

Not only do I have no complaints, I can honestly say that I enjoyed the food to the point where I’m actually glad I signed up for Fan Tang’s rewards program before even trying the fare. I typically don’t like rewards programs. I got take-away: extra-spicy orange peel tofu with fried rice. Flavorful, just spicy enough, subtle, but satisfying orange flavor. My wife got chicken lo-mein. She is a harsh critic of Asian and Asian fusion foods. Upon her first mouthful, she made an «mmmmm» sound of pleasure. Highly recommended

Live review while eating. First experience. Food is ordered at the counter, you take a number and wait. At these prices I’d expect a sit down and serve type set up. Ordered Jasmine tea. Server practically threw the pot of tea onto the table, facing my boyfriend. Fyi, thats considered rude to do in Asian cultures, but I guess not applicable in the states *rolls eyes*. Pot stickers are delicious. Quickly followed by cup of wanton soup, very good. Chicken lo mein. Very nice. Stove hot to the table. Meal ended, good food. Nothing burned. A bit of advice. Have set servers for set areas, became thirsty for water and no one refilled. Nicole deserves a gold star, most helpful by far.

Yum! I’ve passed this place a bunch and finally stopped in for lunch. From the outside, I didn’t realize it was a casual order-at-the-counter kind of place. I had the Veggie Low Mein($ 8ish) and it was fresh & delicious with a generous amount of broccoli. I would say, though, that it was a teensy bit too salty for my taste. My coworker’s Garlic Broccoli with chicken($ 9ish) looked great. Will be back!

Ok — talk about being upset with one’s self. I need a moment. Ok… ready? So, I went here for lunch today with a colleague and it was so frigg’en good people! I was told about this place a few months back being pretty good… but if you dig through my reviews you’ll quickly see I’m somewhat of an Asian purist/aficionado…in one way or another… we’ll leave it at that :). Anyway… I simply love Asian food… all types, styles, influences. it always a potential adventure. This was such a nice surprise today — I can’t even begin. For starters we shared an incredibly flavorful dish called, and forgive I’ll need to paraphrase…“fire cracker dumplings”. These were quite possibly the best dumplings I’ve eaten in a restaurant, period. You could see and taste just how fresh they were and exactly how much care they put know these puppies while makin them… no lie. For lunch — I had to… I had to try the Fried Rice. This is a like trying a corned beef sandwich at a tire Jewish delicatessen, or a soup at a mom & pop diner… it tells a lot about how they approach and culminate a flavor that’s truly close to home… close to what they value and how they want to be viewed and appreciated. Or… maybe I’m just waaaay over thinking this S**t! Well — home run. Best fried rice ice had in quite sometime. I just had another great fried rice not too long ago… and probably said the same thing — God knows I love the drama when reviewing a great find, but seriously folks — this is totally legit. I talked with the owner a bit-casually. Turns out he’s using some recipes he grew up wth from his grandma. That says it all. I also really loved the fact that he was constantly walking around and checking in with his patrons — that the icing on the cake. This is great Asian food, fresh flavor and delivered with grace, in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Well done!

Fan Tang serves good food. It’s not my favorite genre of food so to speak, but it’s good to have every once in awhile. You order when you walk in — which I don’t really like. Their service is awful. I had water and I guess they don’t do refills. I ordered a garlic chicken plate with veggies and brown rice. It was good– nothing special. Their chicken lettuce wraps are great and affordable for the amount of food you get. My friends are obsessed with the spicy pot stickers… I personally think they’re decent, but again nothing special. Also, crappy parking but what can you expect for Nob Hill restaurant!
