Center of the Universe

There’s something delightfully tongue-​in-​cheek about a college campus structure/​sculpture entitled the Center of the Universe, isn’t there? All ye who pass through these halls, take heed, you are indeed the Center of the Universe, for now and until you receive your degree. Following graduation day, however, you’re just a meaningless speck of matter in the ever-​expanding cosmos and you’ll undoubtably get swallowed in the corporate black hole that enveloped the rest of us. So enjoy your celebrity while it lasts. Trust me, no one will ever care that you double majored in Psychology and Biology with a minor in South American Poli Sci.
This warped concrete Zia with a central plaque is pretty self-​explanatory, although I don’t think anyone knows what lies beneath the center grate, and I’ll mention that it takes on an additional dimension that’s likely specific to an Albuquerque university campus: I never, ever feel absolutely safe when I enter it. Even in the daylight. Sh*t could seriously be going down in them there dark corridors. Blame me for livin’ la Burque loca.
I’m really glad Dave put this page in the virtualsphere and I absolutely dig that we have it. And think about this: if you’re the Duke or Duchess of the Center of the Universe, can anybody top that? Check in early and often, Dave.

Nothing like being at the Center of the Universe. There’s even a plaque! If you’re on the University Campus and near the Duck Pond, you might as well come on over and check out the large concrete Cartesian sculpture just to the south. Come on inside and stand directly on the Center of the Universe!
