After being excited about finding a wine store close to where we are working, Cross Gates Mall. We stumbled upon this cute boutique wine shop and liquor store. We walked into the shop and I commented to an employee how nice the«cellar» looked only to be dismissed. As we were looking for a bottle of wine, there were 3 employees standing there. Not ONE offered to help us. It seemed the owner and buyer where perticipating in a tasting with a sale rep.(Being in the industry, that’s what they were doing). Buying wine. Me being so excited I said«oh a wine tasting»? Only to be SNUBBED, rudely spoken to, and once again. DISMISSED. Yes, I had just come from a 12 hour shift at work stubbing floors and was a bit ruff looking. However, a self proclaimed, YNO, I was extremely flabbergasted!!! I wanted to jump right in when the sales rep started talking about the Bourdeaux Vertituals and I asked him which of the noble grapes were not use… Again a look, but a look of hmmmm… She might know something! Never judge a book by its cover when you are in the hospitality industry!!!

I was initially going to give Stuyvesant Liquor three stars, but after typing up the review and rehashing my experience, I’m dropping it to two. However, in all fairness, I’ve only been here on one occasion. The service did not impress. I was the only customer in the store with two staff people who were engaged in a personal conversation. There was no acknowledgement of my presence or offer to assist, even though I was wandering around for about ten minutes choosing a few bottles of wine to bring to dinner at a friend’s. The guy who cashed me out removed the price tags from the bottles with a razor blade, which I thought was a really nice touch. I commented accordingly, and… he didn’t respond. Not a word. Let’s pretend for a moment that the service wasn’t bad. I’m still not sure I’d be very driven to come back to this store due to the small selection and high prices. But the location is convenient, so I’ll give them that. Full disclosure: I *almost* wanted to deduct a star because I was insulted that the mute little whippersnapper didn’t ask for my ID, but I thought that might be a tad bit unreasonable.

I’ve only been here twice — once to purchase a bottle of Jaegermeister for a friend’s 31st birthday and once after having a particularly irritating series of events involving Western Avenue. My frustrated boyfriend purchased a bottle of gin here and then became annoyed at how much more it cost there than anyone else. In an effort to calm him down, I offered to try to return it. So I did, and they were fine about it. These things happen sometimes. On the way out, some stupid suburban teenager with a sideways hat and a long T-shirt made a comment about my «rack.» I didn’t like it. It wasn’t a terrible place but it’s small and overpriced. I’d probably only go here if it was the only place that was convenient.
