Hillcrest Family Restaurant & Stubby’s Tavern

Perfect place to stop on a road trip. We had brunch and everything was delicious! The hashbrowns were definitely a highlight. Service was quick and friendly. Will for sure be stopping here again on future trips up north.

Hillcrest/Stubby’s were kind enough to host a road rally this weekend, and as a result I had supper, breakfast, and a buffet that they catered over the course of 24hrs.
A BLT on white with crinkle cut fries was exactly as you’d expect it, and it is pretty hard to bugger up bacon and mayo on toast. The fries could have used some seasoning but hey, we’re in farm country. There’s salt and pepper on the table. :)
Breakfast was really quite good, excellent hash browns under my over easy eggs. Only disappointment was the decidedly church-​basement-​weak coffee. After the healthy pour I got the night before in my rye and ginger ale, some stronger coffee would have been welcome.
The service in the bar and restaurant was pleasant and timely, and even though the food was decidedly mediocre, the price was right, so three stars it is.

Great food, friendly folks, and prices from decades ago… don’t pass it up if you like diners
