Moved from NYC to Albany and was so glad to find such an awesome yoga studio. All of the instructors have different teaching styles but are equally supportive and engaging. After my very first class, I loved it so much that I signed up for a 3 month unlimited pass. Highly recommend giving this place a shot! It’s only $ 6 for your first class(and all of their community classes are suggested donation!).

I love love love Heartspace! No better yoga studio in the area. Almost every yoga instructor I’ve ever had has been amazing. This place promotes yoga in its truest forms. I always learn something new, and the energy here is pure and welcoming. I love how there is such a spiritual experience in each and every class and such a diversity of yoga styles brought to the mat.

Great yoga studio! The vinyasa classes are a workout and instructors are very attentive and thorough in guiding you through the poses. The community classes are suggested donation-arrive early to secure a good spot, since they get filled pretty quickly. Having recently relocated to Albany from New York City, I was happy to find such a wonderful yoga studio to hone my practice.

Heartspace is without a doubt the best yoga studio in Albany. The teachers are awesome– highly qualified, knowledgeable, and charismatic. The class offerings are unbeatable. You’ll find classes for every level of practice, many different styles, and tons of time slots. Classes are affordable, and the community classes are donation based which makes it possible for anyone to attend, no matter your budget. My favorite thing about this studio is the sense of community it provides. There are always special events happening– John Smrtic loves bringing in live music for his classes, and Lauren Toolin offers some amazing Saturday workshops. You can find out about things like that by joining the newsletter or visiting the website. I highly recommend Andrew’s classes– he is the owner of the studio and his classes are super thoughtful. You can also find some great bodywork at the studio– I would highly recommend Ananda if you’re looking for a great massage.

I had a wonderfully relaxing massage with Ananda today. I got a great deal with Groupon. Ananda’s hours are on her website and we set up my appointment over email. She was really nice when I had to reschedule at the very last minute the other day. I was super stressed when I walked in and her very peaceful nature set me at ease right away. I asked for hard pressure and she gave it to me! She worked out knots in my back that I didn’t even know were there and paid special attention to all of the areas that I specified. I am definitely going back to take a yoga class and then see Ananda after. I can’t think of anything more rejuvenating!

The community classes are great if you are new to yoga and want to experiment with different styles and instructors until you find one that suits you. Community classes operate by donation only — so you can donate whatever you can afford, which is very nice. I’ve found several instructors here that are very good and provide nice instruction and modifications for beginners. The studio itself is nice and well-kept(you would probably not expect this from the outside of the building). They provide pillows, blankets, blocks, and other props. There is a parking lot(so you don’t have to worry about parking on the street) and then you just walk around the building(follow the signs) and go downstairs. To the reviewer who had a less-than-great time at hot yoga with Jen, I recommend trying a class with a different instructor at Heartspace. I too was not very into Jen’s class for the same reasons you mention(lack of instruction for beginners, etc.), but I’ve found other instructors at Heartspace to be much more helpful and instructive(try a class with Tracy or Mary Beth).

Best yoga studio that I have tried so far in the bay. I am not a fan of nagchampa and think it reminds me of college dorm rooms. But other than that the classes Ive taken have been great. Well taught, lots of space and very welcoming. I wish they offered even more classes.

A friend brought me here while I was visiting Albany. We took a Saturday 11am Hatha class with Lauren, and it was just what I needed after being sick for a week. I really enjoyed having Lauren as an instructor because she was so calm and kind, adjusted my poses, and even gave a quick adjustment/massage while we were in savasana. I fully trusted her and her knowledge of yoga. The space is so beautiful, and I believe they offer a variety of other holistic services. I look forward to visiting again!

Who doesn’t like a community oriented yoga studio?! No mandatory expensive membership. Classes are $ 15 or community classes are by donation(which they suggest $ 10-$ 15). They offer classes for all levels and the newly redone studios are beautiful.(I wish they wouldn’t burn incense because it bothers my allergies sometimes, but I understand it part of the practice). They also offer a lot of props(blocks, straps, blankets, pillows) for borrowing. The teachers are all highly trained yoga instructors, not the hacks that you meet at the gym who did a 4 hour certification. The classes offered range from simple practice to highly spirtualized. Two years ago I was going to 2 or 3 classes a week and loving it. Then I tore my meniscus(unrelated to yoga) and had not been back until a week or so ago. One of my favorite classes is Sarah Peter’s TGIFriday Yoga. Her class is invigorating and a great end to a stressful week. Its challenging enough that you have to let go of the week and focus on the practice, but not so challenging that you’re frustrated.(Granted I’m dealing with an enormous basket of drastic body changes from the botched meniscus repair, but I think it will be a good thing for me spiritually and physically to get back into yoga a few times a week). She is a little nutty, but charmingly nutty. My goal is to go once a week for a while to see if it improves my ongoing knee rehab. John Smirtec also teaches a Jvimukti(sp) class which is awesomely challenging and deeply spiritual and I cannot wait to have my body back in practice enough to take one of his classes. Jenn B is also a great vinyasa instructor. There is a parking lot off of Madison Ave and you just have to walk around the building to get to the basement entrance. Its a strange, busted looking office building and you would never expect the quality of the studios or instructors based on the appearance of the place. Pretty good studio, recently redone with hardwood floors. $ 15 normal, $ 12 student, and offers about one«donation class» per day when students generally give $ 5. $ 1 for mats if you don’t have your own.
