this place was bad 20 years ago. homeless folks in the park across the street begging for change and the GHETTOHOOD around the corner, i’m surprised it’s still in business.

They have the rudest staff that I have ever came in contact with. Not helpful at all and they all look miserable. If you don’t like working with people, then this is the wrong job for you. They need to fire all those pricks and rehire some pleasant people. Skip this place and just go a block up Lark Street to Capital Wine and Spirits.

Because it’s sister operation — Capital Wine and Spirits — closed, this is now the closest liquor store in walking distance of my house. There’s a large selection of liquors, but a very limited wine selection. I’m mainly a wine-drinker so that’s a disappointment. I get the feeling there isn’t a real large turnover in the wine area either. I recently bought a bottle of the Beaujolais Nouveau and realized that it was actually a 2006 bottle and not the 2007 batch that had just come out.(BN isn’t a wine that improves with age — you really only want it in the year it’s released.) Ooops. I feel bad for the staff here because they often have to fend off people who come in and harass their customers for change. One time I was there and a guy came in with a batch of bootleg DVDs he wanted to sell us. I don’t fault the store for this, but it’s definitely annoying. The bottom line — I’ll go here sometimes because it’s near my apartment, the prices aren’t bad and one of the clerks is really cute. However, I probably wouldn’t ever go here if it weren’t just a few blocks away, especially because parking is difficult.
